Hail and Unite is back by unpopular demand

Submitted by Leaders And Best on

Hail and Unite has launched a new website and a promo video. The hype is real! They even have an executive board. It's fitting that this comes on a day when Brian writes about the failure of Dave Brandon. I wonder who served as Louis Elbel's CFO and COO back when he wrote "The Victors."

Not wanting to cross unintentionally into religion, but the boards response to this reminds me of the council of Gamaliel. The apostles were up for trial with the Sanhedrin and Gamaliel speaks up about what his fellow Jewish religious leaders should do. He said:

And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

It's the same thing here. This thing is so appallingly stupid, it requires no pushback against it. It will die on its own. Grown adults going to such great lengths to shout down a clearly idiotic plan by a couple undergrads is a hilarious waste of time.

I disagree wholeheartedly... in this day and age, stupidity rules.  If we ignore them, they won't go away; they'll interpret the vacuum chamber as endorsement.

Hail and Unite must be crushed. It must be known to Adam Weiss and his merry circus of assclowns that this idea sucks.  We must not sleep until Hail and Unite is wiped from the face of the Earth.

I love that these people, who wish to claim they're creating an epic song, are so useless and self-centered they're doing everything possible to avoid any actual work on the material.

Working in the film industry, I've definitly been pitched situations where someone's "great idea" is that they'll get someone else to come up with an idea and then they'll just need donations or someone else to find them money to make it happen.

Advice to anyone soon to work on the film industry: if any of you ever meet any of these no value added but credit already subtracted types: run.

I just sent the following email to [email protected]

Good evening.

My name is [BostonWolverine] (LS&A class of 2005). My sister is a graduate from LS&A class of 1998. My mother graduated from U of M in 1972. My father received his PhD from the University of Michigan. This is only my immediate family - and I have several aunts and uncles who also got their degrees at Michigan.

In short, my family owes everything to Michigan. The university is an honorary member of our family. And so I must do what I can to speak up and protect it.

"Hail and Unite" is the very definition of gilding the lily. Our university has arguably the most recognizable fight song in the country. While I know this is neither designed to replace nor compete with The Victors, it will only serve to create unnecessary clutter, and can only be seen by alumni and outside observers alike as an affront to the tradition Michigan has spent nearly 200 years building.

I'm sure you mean well, and want to make your mark on the university that has meant as much to your lives as it has to mine. But, with all due respect, please find another way. No matter how good your intentions may be, you cannot turn a blind eye to how this looks to the outside world. It looks bad. Really bad. As in articles-written-about-how-bad-it-is bad. And it's not because you're doing something right. It's because you're doing something bad. Please stop. For all of us. And for Michigan.

Sincerely yours,
[BostonWolverine]

Very nice, thoughtful letter Boston Wolverine.  Respectful and well put.

Unfortunately when you're up against an overinduldged, spoiled child who last heard the word "no" from his parents when he was in utero and honestly believes he's not only the smarest person in the room - he KNOWS he's the smartest person in every room then thoughtfull, well written letters have as much chance of success as appeasement did in WWII.

The only way to truly stop this idiot will be to do all the things Brian threatened before the concern trolls fainted en masse at the horror  of someone being unfriendly to an out of control 19 year old.

Excellent report onm someone you obviously know very well.  A child, perhaps?  I am actually more curious as to why you would allow such a close personal friend (obviously so, from the fact that you can absolutely attest to what he KNOWS) to make such a horrible mistake that you have to lash out so publicaly.  Couldn't you have dealt with this privately?  Its kinda embarassing to the rest of us to see two people who are so close in such a public spat.

No other college has a shitty rap song that they play. I don't know how this is creating the future. My ideal future is no new shit unless it's sweet like live wolverines and kicking everybody's ass up and down the field.
