I did not make this headline up

|4 days 15 hours ago||LOL, you're probably right||
did you all see Atkins' take on his UVA teammates performance???
I know you're not supposed to use that word, but man, he said his teammates played like p******.
They really did play so soft.
I know it's not Bennett's style, but he needed to break something in one of those huddles. That team needed a foot up its collective ass.
|4 days 18 hours ago||So, having watched Oklahoma||
can't say I'm too optimistic about them beating Sparty.
Oklahoma sort of reminds me of Maryland, but with a less good PG and slightlier sturdier heft on the blocks. But similar blend of size of guys in the rotation, strength of their players/levels of athleticism. Their bigs are slightly less tall than Maryland's, but sturdier.
So, I mean, they could beat them, but I'm not optimistic.
I do think that anyone from the NC State/No. Iowa/Louisville group is a bad matchup for Sparty, with Louisville maybe being the best matchup because they can be ice cold from outside.
|4 days 23 hours ago||I seriously think they're going down||
NC State would be a brutal matchup for them. No. Iowa might scorch the nets on them - they're *very* well-coached. Waiting to see Oklahoma to see what I think of them.
I think Sparty would have a great chance against Dayton, if Dayton makes it through the Dayton (I mean Columbus) pod, and might have a good chance against Louisville, who is shooting challenged.
|5 days 39 min ago||I wouldn't underrate the teams still in that region||
No. Iowa is very good, and actually, that NC State team would be a horrible matchup for Sparty.
|5 days 41 min ago||Ha||
I said the exact same thing as your first sentence.
Meh, UVA was who I always thought they were and I fucked up completely by changing my mind, lol.
|5 days 47 min ago||YES||
Sparty is about to go from being underrated to being overrated.
That was a good matchup for them.
They have some pieces and Izzo has done a great job building guys into their roles, but they're still not that talented a team.
After getting over my total depression that UVA just did that horseshit, I started to get a sneaking suspicion that they may be about to regress to their mean.
They hit a lot of big shots, UVA missed almost all their big shots, and they always welcome a pitched battle.
Don't sleep on the opposition they face next.
|5 days 1 hour ago||On this, I am with you||
that's an annoying and misleading misuse of the term.
|5 days 17 hours ago||I confess I'll probably bandwagon||
next year if that's the case. Just can't follow with the normal intensity, but will hope for the best.
|5 days 17 hours ago||I totally want to believe that can happen||
but I'm feeling fresh out of belief tonight.
|5 days 17 hours ago||I'm not outraged - just exhausted||
and agree with the other stuff you said in there.
But I'm worn out on this.
|5 days 17 hours ago||I'm sorry, I just can't buy in on that madness||
this is what the program is right now under Red.
Too much evidence to go hunting for alternate answers.
Enough of this shit.
Unless you have the dream candidate lined up for the year after not next year.
|5 days 17 hours ago||Please, Red, do what needs to be done||
same shit different year
|1 week 3 days ago||It is mystifying that there wasn't a second part of that play||
we need to hire an out of bounds play quality coordinator. That one thing made a nightmare of a season that much worse.
|1 week 3 days ago||It was clean, for sure||
Yeah, Donnal froze, but I was sympathetic to a freshman getting stuck in that spot. Unless they failed to execute it, the play should have included an automatic look to Spike running free on a pick up the left sideline.
I was just about courtside, as well, just to the right of the basket. I was the really, really loud guy.
|1 week 3 days ago||I was right behind the band at that game||
screaming my head off and giving the officials hell.
|1 week 3 days ago||Not FTs - just the one||
Donnal missed the front end of the one and one and that killed us. I'd had to leave my seat in search of water, as I was about to black out from screaming, and that's when Nova went on the mini-run to set up that situation. I came back in time to see the baseball pass, the missed FT, and the crazy block on an Irvin drive that could have just about won the game with 4 seconds left.
That was probably the closest 5 point loss you will ever see outside of games that go to overtime.
And like I said before, if Donnal could have gotten the ball to Spike, which he was this close to doing, I think Spike makes the free throws and we're sitting pretty (up 3).
|1 week 3 days ago||I don't think it's meaningless at all||
and I think many people are unaware that Walton was injured that far back.
|1 week 3 days ago||I think this all seems reasonable||
I wanted them to get a bid (partially because I selfishly wanted the hope of seeing them in New York), but these are thoughts I had, as well.
I also think the guys are more worn down than they want to admit/can admit to themselves.
This was an excruciating season, a grueling one, with grueling minutes played.
It may be just the right time for these kids to get some rest before refocusing and working their asses off toward a great '15-'16 campaign.
|1 week 3 days ago||I'm with you. I think that's a pretty misleading headline||
Probably better for the team to see what it will look like next year without him, anyway, and the guy needs to rest up for evaluations. It's not like he refused to play in the NCAAs or anything.
|1 week 4 days ago||Right at the start of his first season, many hands waving around||
I abolutely agree the opportunity was there to get the ball into Spike's hands, but a guy like Donnal, not really understanding the speed of the high D1 game at that point, somehow having been entrusted to field the potentially game winning baseball pass - he probably wasn't sure if he was looking at an opportunity to pass to Spike or just seeing something that looked like an opportunity (but would end in a steal).
In the end, he thought the safest thing to do was not risk that he was being baited into a turnover and hang onto the ball.
There were a lot of hands all around him, and I had a great view as it was *right* in front of my seats.
A more experienced player gets that ball to Spike every time in the same exact situation, but we had a guy playing one of his first D1 games.
I also think it should have just been a play where, rather than Donnal looking up and noticing Spike looked available, Spike should have been the secondary part of the outlet - coming off a midcourt pick to streak the left sideline - with Donnal knowing to immediately look to Spike and pass the ball to Spike as soon as it hit his (Donnal's) hands.
Maybe that was the plan and it wasn't well executed?
But I would have run baseball pass + immediately turn and fire to Spike coming down the left side, freed up by a pick.
|1 week 4 days ago||It was referred to as a 5 point loss||
with many 5 point losses, the truth is that the game was never in doubt.
I was pointing out that "5 point loss" is too generic.
I've seen 5 point games where the winning team was never even stressed and 5 point games that are life and death.
When you are in prime position to win with 31 seconds on the clock (up one, at the line for a one and one), it's not a run of the mill 5 point loss. I'm sorry if that distinction is too fine for you.
|1 week 4 days ago||I was very impressed that Reggie Minton was well prepared to||
answer the question on Alabama firing its coach.
Seriously, did that press conference actually take place in 2015?
Bang up operation they've got going there.
|1 week 4 days ago||That wasn't just a 5 point loss to Nova||
if Mark Donnal can find Spike one split second faster and gets the ball to him instead of getting fouled and missing the front end of the one and one, we win that game.
I know, because I was there.
|1 week 4 days ago||I think it's cool that those teams get auto bids||
as someone who believes it's much harder and more significant to win the regular season title of a conference, I have to be consistent.
It's not like we didn't have a major hand in our exclusion here.
Still, the NIT can go get fucked. I think we would have made a very appealing addition to their tournament.
Reggie Minton looks like he's half asleep, anyway, so I'm sure that would be lost on him.
|1 week 4 days ago||Well said||
|1 week 4 days ago||I think these kids are ready to use these slights||
I already think they were juiced to open up a can on everyone who took advantage of them this year - some teams, this wouldn't fuel - I think Camp Sanderson is going to be off the hook. I think these kids are going to have a serious chip on their shoulders and that's good.
|1 week 4 days ago||Am I really splitting hairs if I *do* go to the preseason NIT||
because, I mean, I want to support the team and all.
Still, when I think of all the bucks I lavished on them watching Amaker's fucking teams in their shitty tournament, argh, fuck them sideways.
|1 week 4 days ago||I would sooner open a vein||
than topping this off with an hour that explains to me how that asshole wins anyway.
You are a masochist.
|1 week 4 days ago||Hope this fuels the kids||
to work all off season and stomp A FUCKING HOLE in everybody next season.
|1 week 4 days ago||This. I think they blew a good opportunity.||
also fucked over my alma mater. I will never buy a ticket to the NIT again.
