Manchester City vs. QPR in 2012.

If you know, you know.

This is the most reasonable…

This is the most reasonable take I've seen recently and it has negative votes. This blog is a shell of what it used to be. Man.

Exactly. Prison *is* the…

Exactly. Prison *is* the punishment. But we as a society like to pile on. Because we see criminals (the ones we don't like, at least) as less than human.

Glad to see another F1 fan! Just got into the sport last season and the level of driving is unbelievable. Wish there was more parity though.

I love Formula 1 but IndyCar…

I love Formula 1 but IndyCar has way more parity which I also enjoy. Also the balance between road and oval courses is nice.

Formula 1! Great race in…

Formula 1! Great race in Austria yesterday.

I like the Haas team as they F1's sole America-based team (HQ in North Carolina).

I don't have a favorite driver as long as it's a fun and competitive race.

Races are often at 9am on Sunday mornings (Eastern Time). I'm on the west coast so it's easy for me to see it later on demand (not a lot of F1 spoilers here in the States, as you can imagine).

I dislike this type of…

I dislike this type of reasoning, as if we just change one variable and everything stays the same.

Maybe our loss to ND was the gut check we needed to string together a 10 game win streak.

We don't have a shot at the CFP because we lost to OSU, not because we scheduled ND.

We schedule MAC teams, someone complains that we're scheduling cupcakes. We schedule ND, someone complains that we're making it unnecessarily harder on ourselves.

We have home-and-homes against Washington, UCLA, Texas, and Oklahoma in future years. As a fan of Michigan and of college football in general, those matchups are going to be fucking awesome. Yes, they will be difficult games. Should we cancel those games?

All that said... the OSU/MSU away-away schedule needs to change now.

Neg away if I missed…

Neg away if I missed something, but if Bama beats UGA, Clemson beats Pitt, OKLA beats Texas, and NU beats OSU, then.... we're in????

Edit: Missed OP saying pretty much the same thing. omg if we got in this way...

Edit2: I meant Texas beating OU.

Next year? Wait till next…

0-4 against OSU. 62 points given up. Admit it, if your name is not Harbaugh you aren't getting on the bus back to Ann Arbor.

78-0 + a one-point safety

78-0 + a one-point safety let's goooo

I sure hope they don't. Say,…

I sure hope they don't. Say, for argument's sake, that Shea gets injured and now we need to plug in Peters for OSU and beyond. If the committee decides to extrapolate and assumes we wouldn't be as good, there would be a revolt. The question should be: What has the team done THIS season up until TODAY? If Shea or another star gets injured I sure hope we would have earned our spot based on our performance to date. If so, same argument should be applied for ND if Book were to be out for a while.

I get the sentiment behind …

I get the sentiment behind "no more Alabama vs. Clemson" but if they are worthy of a top 4 playoff berth based on their performance THIS season, then they deserve to be in.

My issue is with the committee slobbering over Alabama's dominance the past few seasons. No. Decide on the top 4 based on THIS season. THIS season's strength of schedule. THIS season's performance. Same with UCF. "20 game winning streak dating back to last season!!" No thanks. What has UCF done THIS season?

I hope the committee will judge based on this season and this season only.

Rutger gon die

This is not an original…

This is not an original comment, but I remember reading somewhere how Alabama is now being rewarded for their dominance in past seasons, in addition to the current season. Add this to hysterical headlines such as "Is this the best CFP team in history?" and you have to wonder, if a one-loss Bama makes it in, to what extent is that due to a halo effect given their recent history?

I don't think this is fair…

I don't think this is fair. OSU is a pretty strong academic institution and is usually in the top 100 of these world universities rankings. I know they have some strong departments that probably pull up this ranking. Of course, Michigan does so many things so well that our ranking is near the top :)

I wouldn't take stock in one…

I wouldn't take stock in one ranking methodology, but a pretty strong indication of quality is a school appearing near the top of multiple lists. Michigan, Berkeley, UCLA, UW Seattle, UT Austin are consistently in the top tier of public institutions year after year on various metrics, including research funding, scholarly output, peer reputation, etc.

I know we like to bash on OSU, but OSU is a pretty strong academic school. It's just not as good overall as Michigan. MSU though... we know the jokes by heart.

While I don't want to admit it, if this exact scenario happened at Michigan, we'd have our own share of victim shaming going on at mgoblog. Sports has an inherently tribal aspect, and it comes out in ugly ways sometimes.

FWIW, the OSU fans at r/cfb on reddit seem way more balanced on this issue than what I have seen on 11W.

No doubt a growing proportion

No doubt a growing proportion of students reliant upon larger and larger student loans. A huge millstone around the neck upon graduation. Not just MSU, but everywhere.

In a conversation with Lisa

In a conversation with Lisa Lorincz in the crowded board room after the meeting Friday, Guerrant said her interpretation had been that Engler wasn't directly offering a settlement but engaging in a “philosophical discussion” about what amount would be acceptable.

Yes, hundreds of young girls were sexually abused and here's Engler wanting to have a philosophical discussion. Is this for fucking real?

Burn it all to the ground.

I would not be surprised by a double digit win against Houston on Saturday.

I wonder whether the allure of Trey Young singlehandedly gets the team in. Not saying it's fair, but I wouldn't put it past the selection committee.

I saw a comment on Reddit the other day, suggesting that if Michigan wins the national championship this year, they should hang a banner that says 2018 NCAA Champions, with the 8 overlaying a barely visible 3.

Genius.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe in the Olympics, a silver medalist can retroactively get the gold if the gold medalist is stripped of the medal due to doping or some other disqualifying event after the fact.

So, I would like to see that applied here.
