Gardner Guarentees a W
Over Ohio. http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20130624/SPORTS0201/306240116#ixzz2XAl2VgSL
"We always have room for improvement, but this is definitely a championship-caliber football team that will win in the Big House against Ohio State," Gardner said. "We don't feel we're inferior to anyone in the country, and we're going to give it our all."
Everyones all "But don't give them bulletin board blah blah blah".
Screw that. I want my QB teling the world we will beat a hated rival. I want to be able to look up December 1 and say "He told you.."
commence
.
Ohio is so overconfident every year I don't think they can even use bulletin board material. They just laugh statements like this off and continue to underestimate everyone they play. Hence why they seem to get in at least one or two dogfights with the Cals of the world every single year.
Our QB just guaranteed a win over the strongest team in the Big Ten and our toughest rival, and OSU is the overconfident one?
Why "should" you have one last year? Teams who "should have won" manage more than two first down in 30 minutes.
Wait, so you are saying that an I-formation draw with Vincent Smith on 3rd and long won't work? (/s) We were our own enemy just as much as Ohio's defensive adjustments, when we took out the DG and Denard in at the same time offensive package.
I mean yes, that was an abysmal second half from us, and not one worthy of victory.
On the other hand, I don't really feel like if your team flagrantly lies, cheats, and covers it up for over a decade that you're qualified to go around judging what 'should' or 'should not' have happened.
i dont understnad the question... maybe if you change "one" to "Won" we would understand.. O-H....
N-O!
I has one. Maybe two. Allright, three.
No, we should not have won that game. When you can't cross mid-field for a whole half, you probably don't deserve to win, no matter how well your defense played to try and make up for it.
We certainly could have won that game, but we definitely didn't deserve to.
What Freddie said. Also, you can't call a team the strongest before the season even starts. That's the beauty of college sports. There's turnover every year. You can base it to some degree on last year, and they have more claim to the #1 power ranking than anyone, but everyone and their mom knows the 12-0 season they had doesn't even put them in the vicinity of unbeatable. If Bama can get beat last year you can bet your ass Ohio can be beat this year. Third point is neither here nor there, but it is possible for two teams to be overconfident.
Call me crazy, but I don't think Ohio is the strongest team in the B1G this year.
He's supposed to concede that OSU is the greatest thing since sliced bread and guarantee that we will play hard.....He said what he is supposed to say, and what he damn well ought to be thinking and saying in June! Go Blue!
It went really well with sliced pork.
It was rock or fire...I forget it was a long time ago...
The Cals of the world.
And the Purdues, and the OHIOs, and the list goes on...
arggg! poster above beat me to the punch....commence MgoHumiliation
Jim Harbaugh huh? Nice.
Mike Hart.
a few whiskey sours. . .
I love his confidence, and from a team leader like your QB that can be a great source of influence on the rest of the team. But, it really means nothing unless you back it up with a win. Nonetheless I like the fact that he's confident. I get this feeling he is going to have an incredible year and really hope he stays healthy.
Yeah... my spelling is off but your face sucks.
Great, but did he guarensheed it is the question?
DG don't lie!
After Harbaugh's famous guarantee, didn't Schembechler say something like "Jim went and ran his mouth, so now all we can do is go out there and prove him right?"
This is from: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=ncf&id=3108728
Angelique wrote of this in her "100 Things" book as well.
Michigan had just sustained its first loss of the 1986 season the week before against Minnesota, prompting quarterback Jim Harbaugh to say, "I guarantee we will beat Ohio State and go to Pasadena." Harbaugh expected Schembechler to be extremely angry. "The way our leader, Bo Schembechler, handled it was genius," said Harbaugh, now Stanford's head coach. "He just came into the team meeting and I'm kind of expecting to get an earful. He said, 'Well, at least I know our quarterback thinks we can win. Rally around him. Let's go to Columbus and beat the Buckeyes." And they did, 26-24, to earn a berth in the Rose Bowl.
Local newspaper-still Booth affiliate of course- ran article where Bo stated, "I really don't like my qbs making predictions like that, but I guess it's up to us as a team now to make sure we do everything we can to make sure he's not proven a liar." Quite a man, that one.
Yeah the beat us last year at home after Borges went all small ball on them. Devin with have double digit starts by the next game and I think we win by 10. The talent gap is closed from the end of the Carr era and Rich Rod's as well. Besides their Dline unit there isnt one unit that they own us in.
Departed Players from the 2012 Defensive Line
- John Simon
- Nathan Williams
- Garret Goebel
- Johnathan Hankins
Other notable departures on Defense
- Etienne Sabino
- Travis Howard
- Zach Boren (FB to MLB)
3 phenylpropenal?? WTF is that (it's been a few years)??
Zach Boren was the only LB who could tackle. Ohio's secondary should be good but the rest of their defense will be a huge question mark until Michigan.
They lost Hankins and Simon.
Think their LBs are going to be pretty damn good. Grant and Shazier should both be very good.. and their CB own us.
Roby is a NFL first rounder.
has shazier ever finished a season uninjured? I agree 100% on Grant their LB corp has to prove they learned how to tackle in the off season for me to say they are good.
The gap really wasn't all that big during those years once you account for all the contributions by players who should have been ineligible (Clarett, Pryor, Katzenmoyer, etc.), excepting '08 because obviously. Had they not had those guys, M would have broken Tressel's streak at least once.
Seconded.
It's one thing to guarantee a win months before and a whole different ballgame to make a guarantee the week of the game. This is nothing.
