Fightin' Words; the ND Point of View

Submitted by BiSB on

Did you ever wonder what we think of Notre Dame?  Well, according to NDNation, what we feel is pure, unadulterated envy :

http://www.ndnation.com/boards/showpost.php?b=football;pid=112623;d=this

The highlights:

Since the first day the University of Notre Dame did anything worth doing on the field, Michigan has been literaly animated (anima, Latin for "life," "mind" or "soul") by a consuming envy, a second-bestness, a sure and certain knowledge that while it could have been the premier football program and university of the American midwest

Livin' in the past? You betcha:

Enter Notre Dame, which did precisely that, and which, armed with the best coach in the history of the sport, captured the imagination, not only of the region, but of the nation. As Rockne's triumphs garned headlines from coast to coast Michigan grew smaller, and its eyes grew greener and greener

Nazi reference? Check:

This need to be as good as others--this overwhelming, festering sense of inferiority leads Michigan people to ever-more-insane claims of greatness. It has long since passed the point of self-parody, and has become sad, like those really, really old ex-Nazis in retirement facilities, gibbering idiotically, shitting themselves, and repeating the delusional propaganda that first warped their minds.

For the record, I rocked the maize and blue on campus today.  This was not appreciated by the locals.

EDIT: I should say that the locals are split into two very distinct camps, and have been since this summer;  the "we'll be 10-2 because Weis was the only thing holding us back" camp and the "we'll be 7-5 because it's a new system and we lost a bunch of talent on offense and the defense still sucks" camp.  Those two camps held firm through week 1, and exist in roughly equal numbers around here.

them to let us know when they have more wins and a higher winning percentage. We are the winningest program. They are second best. They also haven't won a National Championship since Lou Holtz was the coach there even though the cards are stacked in their favor year after year.

I was *this* close to posting that link when I saw that you'd done the honors.  It was brought to my attention by a friendly Domer at my workplace.  Spicy!

Every school has its share of annoying fans.  In this case, I think commenter Dublindude (who favors "delusional") comes closer to pegging people like the infamous Mr. Smith (whose letter to the Alumni newsletter was run recently and discussed on the 'blog) and other clueless alums.

Are you sure this wasn't meant for Sparty?

But honestly, this is a pretty sad attempt to just make themselves feel better about: a) not being relevant for quite some time, b) falling flat on their faces when they ARE relevant (2006, anyone?) and c) not winning anything significant in the recent memories of their current student body.

Also, there's this:

+ 1 for rocking the maize and blue. If they want to live in the past that fine but beano and Lou won't be around forever. They may want to start adding to that history in a hurry before they loose their blind lovers.

Lol they think we envy them?! We just got voted 15th best university in the world for one thing. Second, didn't we teach them how to play football? They even modeled their stadium after ours! I didn't hate them like I did OSU or MSU, but they're constant delusional thinking is getting ridiculous.

Why would we be jealous of ND? We have won 3 out of the past 4.   Killed them in 2006 and 2007, even though we lost in 2008 we outgained them in total yardage 388-260 and if it wasn't for a monsoon and ThreetSheridamnit we had a chance of winning that game, then ripped their hearts out last year.

Ya know, this kid I went to gradeschool with was always ranting about how Rockne was the greatest coach this and that and how he invented the forward pass.... As a third grader my first thought was "Yeah, its easy to win when you're the one making up the rules, you rtard."

F*** Notre Dame and their annoying fans.

Their lower all-time win total? Their lower winning percentage? Their stadium that looks like ours except 30,000 seats smaller? God I wish we had iconic helmets and an awesome fight song like they do! And it's too bad that Notre Dame leads the all-time series against us. Especially those last 4 years. That 2008 win counts way more than our 2006, 2007, and 2009 wins. Now if only we had won a MNC more recently than them.....   Oh I know what we do have though! We have WolverineHistorian and they only have DameFan1. At least we're ahead in that aspect.
