freshmen year at 248lbs 27% body fat now my sophomore year at 220lbs with only 9% body fat. Work for what you want. pic.twitter.com/WMTZo9DC7F— Derrick BANE Green (@DG2seven) July 25, 2014
i refuse to even consider this a possibility
Ver y impressive.
Anyone out there able to calculate how much muscle he has put on based on his current weight and the change in body fat %?
248*27%=67lbs of fat
220*9%=20lbs of fat
47 lbs of fat lost.
248*(1-27%)=181lbs of not-fat
220*(1-9%)=200lbs of non-fat
19 lbs of muscle gained (assuming his bones and organs, etc stayed the same)
Good lord. He could run through a brick wall
He *is* a brick wall.
He is the one who knocks
He looks a good 6 inches shorter... and that's WITH shoes!
No, he's taller. Look at the words on the wall. Maybe they're high-healed cleats.
Camera angles can be very misleading. He's definitely standing farther from the wall in the after picture, which would make him appear larger compared to the wall text and the before picture. He may have grown but not as much as it looks in these pictures, IMO.
I logged in to make this comment. He looks a lot shorter at first. But, then you look at the placement of his head against the words in the wall and he looks a lot taller. I just can't figure out the camera angle.
It had nothing to do with Green getting shorter or taller or camera angles or the cleats on his shoes.
What really happened was that the wall got shorter as the result of Derrick Green running through it repeatedly.
Check again, this time look at his head in relation to the text on the wall. He's like a foot taller!
They re-painted the wall text.
Look, his head barely touches the letters his freshman year. Now he blocks the word.
Suns out guns out
I read "transformation" as "transfer" and almost panicked.
This guy could be his own Fullback.
I totally did the same thing!!
I read the letters t-r-a-n-s-f and the panic meter was already going off.
Gald to see the news is just that he has turned himself in a complete monster.
title ran off my page, thought it said "DerrickGreenTransferring"...
this is much better.
I want you falling forward and running through that first would-be tackler.
all weight change is good / s / s
the next level.
OMG SHIRTLESS PRISON ABZ
or they may just get mowed over from behind. He's definitely going to hit the hole faster. Let's just hope one exists this year. Could be big year for this young man. Looking at that photo I can't help bus ask myself, Just who in the hell has guided Peppers through his weight training. Incoming players don't normally look like that until they've been in the program a couple of years. Good job DG!!!!
Just gonna throw a FROSH in the mix while we're at it...
Holy crap. He's going to light fools up when he hits them.
Good god. Peppers is all that is man.
Looking forward to seeing him throw opposing receivers to the turf like rag dolls.
His pecs look like they were made in a factory and glued on.
Looks like a drawing by an artist. His muscles have muscles. That physique and definition for his age is insane.
It's Ravishing Rick Rude!
What does a S&C coach do with that?
Why do they always flex in the after pics and not the before ones. Not doubting these guys have made gains, but kind of makes the pictures pretty useless for comparison's sake.
I've seen a few Photoshops in my day, and.....
These are reminiscent of Frank Clark's pics. Awesome.
Almost 250 with 27 percent body fat is...not ideal for a big time RB. Hope his hard work pays off in the fall.
Isn't that like the standard for Wisconsin tailbacks? /s
Not of recent/modern vintage
I'll always see Wisconsin as Ron Dayne and PJ Hill ... despite Ball's success.
Well PJ hill was 5'10" and about 220, so he wasn't exactly a fatty magoo. Of course we was about 240-250 his first year, and slimmed down to be a better RB.
I couldn't believe he was the same guy. DIdn't really give his career much of a boost though.
Picture on the left: genetics. Picture on the right: genetics + hard work.
genetics + pizza, pop, potato chips, and ice cream.
I'm impressed... Holy shit he's ripped!
He's done an amazing job, but I gotta say, that looks a little higher than 9%.
He's just got those pro-wrestler abs. Inhale and it looks like a big barrel, then exhale and it looks like a gigantic six pack.
Seems a little generous to me too. To put this in perspective, if the numbers he's giving are correct, that means in one year he would have gained 20 lbs of lean muscle mass and lost 47 lbs of fat. Seems crazy to me, but he's obviously in better shape than he was.
In one year he lost just less than one pound of fat a week and gained under a half pound of muscle a week. I'm not a trainer but that doesn't seem unrealistic.
I went from 215 to 170 in a year so the fat loss is certainly possible. I've never tried to add muscle, but it seems within the realm if possibility to me.
Remember that he can dedicate time significant time shaping his body where many of us can't. He probably spent significant time losing the bad weight and getting to what he wanted to maintain before working in adding muscle.
After getting rid of the unwanted and detrimental fat he probably figured he could reshape what already existed into a more attractive and efficient package. Now he looks like when he lowers his shoulders you had better be satsified in just getting the young man to the ground. Don't be concerned at all with trying to put him on his back to mate a statement. I don't think that's going to happen too often this season. Also could be the reason the other backs looked much stronger in the spring game. I swear on one play Smith had 7 players hit him and although not going forward, neither was he down or going backward. It's contagious.
Say that to his face
If he was at 9% his abs would be much more visible and we'd see more vascularity. Peppers was at like 5%, for what it's worth.
But honestly, 9% at 220 lbs is still 20 lbs of fat. If he lost 8 lbs he'd be around 6%, so I think his numbers are pretty accurate. Huge change from what he was. He lost over 40 lbs of fat and gained over 20 lbs of mucle. That is a monster year in the weight room. Hopefully this is combined with some good footwork and blocking and we can see some good results.
It'd be great to have a serious complete backfield. It seems like it has been since Hart/ Henne that we've had one. I still wish I could have seen Minor Rage with Denard. That backfield always seemed like it would have been killer.
Denard and Toussaint were pretty damn good in 2011. We didn't have an outstanding big back, but Hopkins was mostly servicable.
This is more than just weight room work. He's been working with a nutritionist, I'd wager, and become extremely disciplined.
players want to see a repeat of last year and have 100% committed to making sure it doesn't happen. We are still young but I think this team will prove to be one that we can be proud of regardless of the outcome. It seems to be a team that's working hard. I think "disciplined" is the key and will apply to a number of areas.
Even his face got chiseled.
But Aaron Wellman aint no slouch.
Did someone say MANBAWL????
In a good way of course.
and performance on the field.
That's the thing about steroid use...
Still is, in EL.
Bulk was a beast in college though.
it apparently worked in college
fat kid, literally freshmen year of high school and told he will not play HB ever. Went to a UVA trainer and was starting HB from there on. He has the determination, if the oline does even a little better he will be unstoppable with a ok passing game.
but I imagine the Funchess threat alone should open some holes.. . .probably wishful thinking, but it's all I got.
Hope be puts it all together this season. 248lbs. and 27% body fat was negligence on his part.
We're not talking about a crime against humanity here. Negligence sounds a little harsh.
Let's go with entitlement. And we never heard 248 last year, we heard 240. So he let himself go and learned the hard way college is a whole different level. Hope to see positive things out of him this year.
Definitely didn't mean to sound harsh as I'm happy for the kid and want him to have great success. Saying that, coming in as a 5* guy with a opportunity to start right away, he neglected his own body and weight training regimen.
He was by all accounts a workout warrior in high school, so to come in at that size was disappointing. Maybe you can find a better word for me, but I thought it fit. Again not trying to down the kid in any way and apologize if I came off insensitive.
His lats are almost horizontal.
While he looks leaner, there's no way he's at 9%bf. If guess 14-17%
They probably just did the quick, arm measurement of body fat, which can be misleading.
Shorter, so that sucks. /s
So you think Funchess is your ally? But you merely recruited him. I work out with him; got molded with him. I didn’t see the light until I was already a Sophomore, by then to me it was only blinding.
golf outing and then working on the new house this weekend! My money be burning!
And yet Smith is still projected to be the starter/get the bulk of the carries.
the camera angle isn't the same and he has shoes on btw
DG needs to to be lighter on his feet. I think he sees holes very well (and they we NOT many last year), but he really needs to improve getting by that shoe-string tackle. Yeah - he can pound somebody - but if DG wants to be in the mold of Richardson (AL) he needs to have quicker feet. I'm certain the weight loss is going to help with this !
I read DG as Devin Gardner at first and was fairly confused about what that had to do with anything.
Dude, you're not paying attention to the camera angles. Did you see Green at all last year? His thighs are tree trunks. Don't let the rest of his body and the camera angle fool you.
He's probably a bit higher than 9%, but don't confuse body fat with extra skin. He's down almost 30 pounds; his skin has likely not fully adapted.
They look pretty bulky to me, so no concern here .
I don't give a crap if he is at 9% or 12% or 14%. The dude is clearly in waaaaaay better shape than last year. There is no way that doesn't turn into production on the field.
Let's hope that Green inspired Smith to go full beast-mode too. It would be just wonderful to have two backs going off.
He is going to be a problem the next 3 years for the B1G. A THREE HEADED MONSTER of Green, Isaac, and Smith. Go ahead and give us the "Chrystal ba......" Oh, well the other womanly shaped trophy.
The Golden Flashlight?
Edited for MGoBoardFriendlyness
why red shirts are a good idea.
SOMEONE BLOCK SOMEBODY!
A couple of monsters there.
I just want to see some good results this year, is that too much to ask?!?
a lot of people said that Aaron Wellman wasn't half of the strength and conditioning coach that Barwis is. i'd say the guy known's his shit.
