we will be losing any sleep over it, either.  I am basing it off of limited video that I have seen and understand the limitations of my knowledge, but he looks to be overrated to me.  Nothing about him jumped out at me as being really impactful. Not saying we would not have loved to have another piece, but he did not appear to be a college all american level talent to me.

Oh well. Best of luck, kid. Can't blame him for wanting to be close to home, but playing for a coach on the verge of retirement after his program gets hit with NCAA sanctions and tournament bans wouldn't sit very well with me.

Then again I'm not Tyus Battle.

but my guess is we are able to fill that scholly with someone who will be an impact player, although not at TB's level.

I get the "close to home" thing, but 'Cuse is a head-scratcher.  Would love to hear their recruiting schtick now -- it must be good if it helped land TB.

As much as I would love to call shady antics on Syracuse, this poor dudes parents are calling all the shots for him.  In the last few months, he's switched high schools, switched AAU teams, switched commitments.

Sure, there might be good reasons for a kid to switch, but when you are taking a HS kid and switching his AAU team, his HS team, and having him semi-arbitrarily switch colleges before his senior year even begins, I'm having a hard time believing this is all being done for the direct benefit of the kid.  I'm a parent (admittedly of a young kid), but switching her dinner from salmon to chicken is enough to get a cocked eyebrow and a 2-minute conversation about why the fish tastes funny.  I'm guessing Battle didn't make all of these decisions on his own.

I was looking forward to seeing Battle in Maize and Blue but it's his choice and I hope he does well with his decision. I wonder why he decided to decomit from Michigan, probably will never know. Oh well we push on and hope for a commit from Miles Bridges! Go Blue!!

You might be right but look at GR3 and Irvin. Both guys in the 6'6 and 210-210 range. both played the "4". Also because Beilein rarely plays two legit bigs, it's inevitable that someone like him slides to the "4"

This one really hurts. Particularly knowing that it probably cost us Langford (or Cumberland) as well.  One of these years we will catch a break and finally start landing 5 star recruits on the hoops trail. In the meantime the search continues. At least we still have time to scramble. I wonder if Beilein will go after Cumberland now that we have closure on Battle?

Ever been to Syracuse? It's a dump. The campus is ok but the city itself sucks. Couple all that with the sanctions and you're wondering - if the goal is to be close to home - why in the world you'd pick Syracuse

Wish him luck, but man, doesn't seem like a good program to attend unless you are 100% planning on going to the NBA in a year and just, I don't know, want to shoot the ball a good deal on a team that doesn't look really good going forward.

It seems like there will no end of great shooting guards/forwards coming to Beilein. We're overstuffed with them. I'm much more interested in great true point guards. I want a brilliant passer & penetrator, lightning quick with incredible ball handling.

Mix me one up made out of the best parts of Ricky Green, Gary Grant, Eric Turner & The Judge (Who wasn't a point guard but became an amazing ball handler and passer after only being a long ranger bomber in high school)

Jump ship to a major college basketball school after committing to Michigan? Check

Parental over-involvement? Check

I hope for this kid's sake it's not the case, but this looks a lot like the road that Alex Legion went down.

If it is the case, prepare thyself for some serious 2nd Division Italian professional basketball, Mr. Battle.

Beilein must be getting tired of having to move into plans B and C, he's doing well with those no doubt and I think we'll end up ok at the end of the day, but man I hope he has a LONG list of backup point guard options.

Unless Bridges goes to UK, it's quite possible it'll either be a Bridges/Winston package to UM or to MSU.  This will certainly be interesting to see unfold.

parents somehow - whether by offering something illegal, shady, or even a technically legal inducement.  But that's just the cynical side of me.  Another part of me hopes he actually chose Syracuse on his own for the right reasons.  But, either way, at least we can put this extremely annoying and frustrating recruitment behind us and move on to players who actually want to be here.

recently said that JB is able to turn lightly recruited kids into NBA picks? I am starting to think that is a 5* recruiting problem, or at least something being used against Michigan.

I think Jaylen Brown said it.

I am very nervous about MSU right now-all indications is Bridges is UK v MSU (and he is from Flint).  They already have Langford (top 20) and Nick Ward (top 75).  And if I am Winston (top 35) and see that trio that is going to be nearly impossible to turn down.  Very frustrating for all the work Beilein has put in.

Do I seriously have to root for that slime from UK here? Ugh basketball recruiting.
