Losing in this manner doesn…

Losing in this manner doesn't feel so bad. Just doesn't feel like UM deserves to win this game.

This is who JJ is. Finally…

This is who JJ is. Finally facing good teams, and he has been meh. Been overrated for a lonnnnnngggggg time.

But everything you describe…

But everything you describe is, well, our team. You simply described what we had and were coached to do. You can't judge overachievement in terms of what the Michigan team was before transfers, good coaching, etc. Johns stepping up is a decent argument. But would he have done that without Livers anyway? You can't take away players and then add them in and say the team overachieved (lol). You can't set the bar at what was not the case.

Pre-season rankings are meaningless. We all agree. You can't come back at the end and say that they are meaningful in order to judge a season. It's silly.

You have to base overachievement on whether UM beat better teams. That is overachievement. UCLA overachieved last night. They beat a better team. Did Michigan do that this year? I don't see it. FSU and LSU come about the closest. But they are at a somewhat lower level than Michigan.

I think the team did great. But I think they did about what they should have based on who was actually on the squad this year, and who the coach was. They all deserve huge credit for being good players and coaches. Its what we now know that can expect/hope from them (playing well and being well-coached, not necessarily getting to the elite 8).

I agree that questioning the…

I agree that questioning the whole season based an elite 8 exit is silly. But so is judging the season based on their pre-season ranking. They didn't "overachieve" due to that ranking - that ranking was just a guess - it was not reality. They achieved just what they should have given many good performances, and several poor ones. The last of which was this one.

Easily my favorite player on…

Easily my favorite player on this squad. Would love to have him for another year.

We were only talking about…

We were only talking about calling a foul on the last shot of the game, at the buzzer. Chill.

At the very least, call a TO…

At the very least, call a TO and somebody talks Howard and Smith out of some dumb hero-ball play. One of the great things about this team all season has been a non-hero ball identity. But now that's the call? Wtf.

To be fair, I dont think any…

To be fair, I dont think any team gets that call.

Pretty bad mistake. Kinda…

Pretty bad mistake. Kinda makes me worry about the post-Martelli era at Michigan.

I dont think I have seen a…

I dont think I have seen a worse coaching mistake than that. Wow.

Fair point.

Fair point.

Wow dude. You have some real…

Wow dude. You have some real issues if you read my post as saying "Fuck you" is ok, and then continue to persist in that claim after my ensuing posts. I can now understand even better why this place is so unpleasant. You might want to try stepping back, take a breath, and not be so reactionary.

Come on man. No where did I…

Come on man. No where did I say that.

Edit: And if that was the impression I gave, it was not intended. I think we need much more civility here; I often find this place to be one of the least civil forums I encounter. Should not be the case.

I agree the trash needs to…

I agree the trash needs to be taken out. I am just asking for consistency.

This should be deeply…

This should be deeply disturbing for those thinking Harbaugh will someone turn things around due to the new financial (and reputational) incentives. The programs at or near the top of that list have coaches that are just as good, or better, than we will have. The same with facilities. And, from what we can tell, the same with motivation. It's not looking very realistic.

Seems like a fair contract…

Seems like a fair contract. The parties are getting and paying what they deserve based on the market.

But what is deeply disturbing is that this signals institutional stagnation, risk aversion, passivity. It signals an institution that is not intent on competing with the top football programs. And that's fine, it's the institution's choice to make; it's just high time, and has been for a while, that the fanbase accepts it.

Awkwardly intense and…

Awkwardly intense and confrontational.

Also highly flawed logic. Nobody is rationally questioning Harbaugh's love for Michigan, how much he feels the losses, how much he has worked, etc. In your dizzy emotional haze you read all the complaints though the same lens. Most here are arguing from a very rational place - from a cool, say, 'business' perspective, sometimes you just have to admit that it hasn't worked out, cut your losses, and move on. It's really tough to make the case that it has worked, or is working. And the chances of it working now are very very slim. Lose all the emotions, and its pretty simple.

Not quite sure how "Fuck off…

Not quite sure how "Fuck off" is so different from someone starting a post to tell me (and every other reader) to "Grow. The. Fuck. Up," and calling us douchebags, amongst other attacks.

Why is this place so toxic?…

Why is this place so toxic? Look, maybe this isn't the most original or insightful post. But neither is your 35th iteration of "this post sucks erg durb blerg."

Like a few have done here, either offer something that might improve the post, or just. let. it. go.

We all know you are an inherently better person than the OP of every mediocre-to-poor post is; You don't need to keep reminding us every single fucking opportunity.

A team that is ranked in the…

A team that is ranked in the top 10 is not the same as a top-10 program.

Do we have a top-10 MBB program? We are certainly part of that conversation....which is awesome.

"So does Michigan need to…

"So does Michigan need to become a more offensive-minded team to adapt to success at the college level, even to the detriment of the defense?"

Why does the pernicious notion that there is some sort of trade-off persist? The persistent top teams (OSU, Bama, Clemson) do both well.

I think you paint a very…

I think you paint a very rational picture. If they were going to extend him before this season, they cannot reasonably use this season as a reason to not extend him.

Yet, I do think, if there is an extension, it will be perhaps more modest than it would have been before this season. So there will be some impact from this season.

Yet I use extension in the passive sense because you leave out a big part of whether an extension arises - maybe Harbaugh chooses to leave. I have always thought he didn't seem entirely happy coaching college, that the NFL was a better fit for him. He might choose to move on.

It's the program, the…

It's the program, the program, the program.

Michigan Football is just boring these days. Harbaugh is about as interesting as a potato, which is a bit odd given his own oddness. And while Michigan has been mediocre for over a decade now (often worse than mediocre), I think the main difference now is that there is just little hope that things will change. We had hope before. Now we don't. And so interest has waned in the program, and thus in this board.

Know my Name by Chanel…

Know my Name by Chanel Miller. Very moving, enraging, and heartening. Yet, don't read it, listen to it. She does the audiobook reading herself; it makes the experience all the more engrossing and enriching.

Empty gesture. Zero thought…

Empty gesture. Zero thought. Zero effort. For a guy with his means, this is the bare minimum.

Moral victories! Hell yeah!!…

Moral victories! Hell yeah!!!!

SMFH.

For every one of these…

For every one of these examples there are examples to counter it. There is no underlying reason; there is no underlying logic. Harbaugh will make UM into a powerhouse, or he will not. It could happen, it could not happen. We will only know after the fact.

Although, admittedly, it is not looking good for him.

"Exposure" in a bowl game is…

"Exposure" in a bowl game is almost meaningless. For the most part, it is not a thing. Aside from something like a Clowney showing in a bowl game, playing in one does next to nothing positive for one's future career (and can certainly hurt it). One' s NFL prospects are 98% about how one does in the combines.

Hail! to the moral victors…

Hail! to the moral victors valiant
Hail! to the moral conquering heroes
Hail! Hail! to michigan
the moral leaders and best!
Hail! To the moral victors valiant
Hail! to the moral conquering heroes
Hail! Hail! to michigan
the moral champions of the west! Go moral blue!

I don't think we need to…

I don't think we need to move on from Don Brown, but this oft-repeated rankings argument is one of the dumbest reasons to support his staying.

If his hand was hurt, don't…

If his hand was hurt, don't you think they would be doing everything possible to protect and secure it, so that it is in better shape for Saturday? Seems like it would be in some sort of secured brace or something.

Regardless of what the guy…

Regardless of what the guy looks like, and who he writes for, if you actually read the tweet, he is pointing out a fact (though with the intent to criticize UM).

But what his tweet really speaks to is the great evaluation of talent someone here did with Ronnie Bell, as well as how rankings can be quite faulty.

It's bush league. It's high…

It's bush league. It's high school. I don't get all the insider 'jokes' in this place, nor do I want to. But I do know that bringing such insider things to the foreground creates an insider/outside divide, yet it does not make the inside any more appealing. Much less so.

I just tried to wipe the…

I just tried to wipe the lint off my screen, which turned out to be your avatar. If that was your intention, bravo.

Ever hear of the importance…

Ever hear of the importance of depth? You hold on to him until you need him. Unless it's the last meaningful game. Then you play him. (And no, the last meaningful game is not the bowl game. It's THE game.)

That field goal decision was…

That field goal decision was all I needed to see out of Harbaugh. I don't know how someone with his experience makes such a clearly dumb decision, but it indicates that he is not good at decision-making. And if I were the owner of an NFL team, I would look at that and really question his suitability as a head coach.

And the irony of this is…

And the irony of this is that nobody with a small penis would write this - they would be raging about how big their penis is.

So I am guessing average size. No proof necessary.

I wish people would learn to…

I wish people would learn to see the nuances of DB's defense philosophy - the very reason his defense keeps us close is the very reason it usually seems to lose to good offenses. Rosters of high-caliber offensive athletes, who are coached well, will usually come out on the winning side, while roster's of not-so-good athletes will, with greater frequency, come out on the losing side. DB's defense is a gamble (high risk, high reward), which he tends to win agains low-level competition, and loses against high-level competition.

Slow clap. Post of the day…

Slow clap. Post of the day. Bravo coach.

The irony is that nobody who…

The irony is that nobody who is actually well-endowed would feel the need to make this comment (i.e., to interpret things in terms of big and little dick sizes).

This game was the epitome of…

This game was the epitome of the paradox of the coaches putting players in position to fail, and the players trying their damnedest to put the coaches in position to win.

It is possible to both root for the players and lament the state of the program, especially the coaching (and the management that is part of it).

This has been a complaint…

This has been a complaint since the beginning. It is true that this site pales in comparison, in both functionality and quality, to many other team's primary fan sites. We have long desired something better. Brian and co. are not driven, and/or are not endowed with the capacity, to provide it; and nobody is willing to take on the challenge of providing a better alternative. So here we are. This is Michigan.

Bullshit. Stop putting this…

Bullshit. Stop putting this on dropped passes. This loss is on Don Brown, whose defense always loses out to rosters that are mostly constituted by good-to-elite athletes. It is not designed for those rosters. That is why it ranks high at the beginning of the season (and why it ranked high when he was in the ACC), but always fails against good teams.

Dropped passes happen - a fundamentally flawed defensive structure shouldn't.

This game is on Don Brown…

This game is on Don Brown. He sacrifices coverage for pressure, which always fails against good teams, against a roster of good-to-elite athletes. We will never win the big games with Don Brown as defensive coordinator.

Defense wins championships by winning big games against elite athletes. Don Brown's defense is fundamentally not designed to do that. Which of course means, no championships at UM while DB is here.

Do you know me? So close to…

Do you know me? So close to my reality. Yet, if you had said, "Mid-morning tequila and late night burritos," you would have been even closer.

Watching that makes me…

Watching that makes me wonder what the hell I am doing with my life. Where did I go wrong? How did I get to the place where I would be sitting in front of such a video?

42-14 PSU

42-14 PSU

It is just sad that we have…

It is just sad that we have to worry about a player talking shit. It is sad that PSU made the better coaching hire, and as a result has successfully and efficiently come back from one of the worst scandals, if not THE worse scandal, in the history of college sports. Meanwhile, Michigan continues to wallow in the 2nd to 3rd tier of college football.

Yes, because Penn State will…

Yes, because Penn State will miss this vulnerability that armchair internet football savants picked up on, and fail to make any adjustments in their practice.

For five years now.
