Penn State Snowflakes: The Coaching

This will be your thread for hot takes and snowflakes regarding the overall coaching against PSU.

Former Season …

Thing that gets me is that first play when Michigan had it third and one on the forty nine yard line and I called the play before they ran it. Right through the center of the Penn State defensive line  and they got stuffed. Why not fake it and run Shea around the line .Need more new plays for the top teams away from the big house.

Just too many fucking mistakes when it matters as usual. Maybe don't dig a huge ass hole every single big road game. But we didn't lose by much so we'll have to endure blaming the refs all week until ND.

The team did better than 98% of the people who follow this blog expected before coming in.  Gattis' adjustments worked.  Brown's adjustments worked.  And yeah, I'll blame the refs, they accounted for as many as 14 points with the missed PI calls.  In that environment with the refs working against you like that we scrapped and had still had a chance to win.

KJ Hamler arguably the quickest WR in the conference being covered by a safety/LB hybrid and a Josh Uche. Brilliant.

What? Was Hill busy doing something else this game?

Best thing for Dax Hill would be to enter the transfer portal and get out of this cluster fuck defense ASAP.

Hawkins a 3-star WR recruit is better than the best DB recruit since Woodson.  Get the fuck out of here.

Solid coaching?  Maybe in the 2nd half.

he had to burn a TO BEFORE THE FIRST play.  What????  Then, a total lack of discipline (coaching) lead to a handful of bonehead penalties.  Then a punt on 4th and 1, and a 58 yard FG attempt.  Yeah, solid.

i want Harbaugh to succeed as much as anyone but he’s simply not living up to what we expected.

He was on him one time with safety help over the top and he didn’t even make the catch because of decent defense. If you wanna be mad about a defender on Hamler, you should be mad about Josh on Hamler near the end. Also you should be mad at Hill for tackling a guy when Michigan has stopped PSU on 3rd and long with about 5 minutes to go right before Hamler scored that bomb.

THAT'S the one thing about the coaching in this game I just don't understand. Why does the trips to one side mean that a safety is covering the slot even if he has zero chance of, you know, actually covering the slot? That's not on Hawkins and it's not on Metellus. That's on Brown. They're being set up to fail and they did.

I think we are better than them.  I didn't love Brown's game plan.  You knew if we manned up they would hit a couple.  I wish we would have made them put some drives together and beat us.  I don't think they could have done it.  Big plays killed us.  Offensive game plan was good.  Kids played hard.  Best offensively we have been all year.

Pissing his pants when he hit 3rd and long on the first series?  First play TO was atrocious but that was about it.  He didn't drop balls.  He kept the ball a time or two, which, maybe one wasn't a great keep but it wasn't a sign of pissing his pants.  The narratives some of you create are interesting at a minimum but mostly ignorant.

Was thinking during the game that you want to stop the flow of the game which gets the home crowd out of it which drives momentum for the home team. Every first down feeds mo. If the deep catches are kept to a minimum, it could be part of his reasoning. 1 Hits on the QB due to pressure that man allows.  2  Disruption of offensive flow which bleeds off momentum. Just a thought

I thought there were some poor situational calls during the game, most notably, putting a safety with no over the top help on Hamler which directly led to 14 points.  Otherwise I thought there was improvement all around, and it seemed like the offense got into a rhythm in the second half.

I cannot believe that with Michigan having an unlimited IT budget, that this forum fucking sucks this bad. I have 200Mbs internet, and yet, almost EVERY time I try to do anything on this POS website, I get errors, and js errors... functionality is garbage, errors 2 out of 3 attempts to do anything on this forum... OMG fix this shit. The forums appear to be mediocre like the coaching staff @ Michigan.

Don Brown sux, his inability to adapt to any offense has cost us at least 8 games over the past few years. Why can nobody see this? This coaching staff has turned these kids with championship talent into mediocre trash bags.

End Rant... Good game Michigan...

PLEASE FIX THIS TRASH WEBSITE.

Look they fought for 60 minutes and I think it’s fair to say they were the better team.

There are no moral victories but this was a hard fought game.

But please Jim, appoint someone else in charge of time outs and game strategy. You suck at that.

Penn State would have been able to run out the clock.  Unless you are allowing for an unfathomly stupid move by Franklin, which I guess is within the realm of possibility.

There was 1:45 left (105 seconds) left.  It was pre-1st down and Michigan had one timeout.  Which means PSU would have been able to let the clock run three times.  If you optimize, once before 1st down with 25 seconds on the playclock, and two other downs with 40 seconds on the play clock.  That's the whole 105 seconds, and downing the ball takes a couple of seconds each on 1st-3rd down.

Game was over.  It was a Hail Mary, but the only chance we had (hoping to see an unexpected premature knee down).
