Video from Monday night seems to show swelling in Justin Fields left (non-throwing) hand

Here's the video on twitter. Fields is in it from 0:23 to 0:25:

It appears there is swelling. Here's photos from this season for comparison. A screen shot from the video is in the middle. All the pictures around it are from this season. Is there swelling?

Fields was not made available for the presser after the game on Saturday, or for the presser on Tuesday for the Michigan game.

Fields customarily comes out for postgame interviews, but he did not Saturday.

He also was not among the five players made available for interviews on Tuesday.

There's speculation that he has a limp, and coaches didn't want that to be seen, also, that coaches didn't want him under scrutiny answering questions as to the severity of the injuries. But who knows. Maybe they just wanted him off his feet to rest, and not face the media.

The video does show there is no cast on the thumb, so it may not be broken. But then again, Brett Favre played with a broken thumb on his throwing hand and never had a cast. So who knows about that also.

If there is still swelling on Saturday how would it affect his game?

One solid tackle with him holding onto the ball and our defender wrapping up to the ground will hurt that no doubt. We still will need to be able to have that run stop support to stop Dobbins from beating us tho.

He may play with the injured thumb. Temperatures in the mid 30s will make his injured hand feel numb, so he may not grip the ball as well, that could result in some turnovers.  Looks like only occasional drizzle for the game. Here is the 00Z NAM for 1 PM Friday. The heavier rainfall down in Ohio will not make it north to Ann Arbor until after sunset on Saturday.

Plays, don't plays, hurt, not hurt, only thing that matters is Michigan has one more point than OSU on Saturday when clock reads zero at end of game. GO BLUE!

Not sure why all the negs.   I get the "no politics" rule, but the main (and hilarious) point is that the title of this book completely encapsulates our collective allergic reaction to feel any semblance of hope going into tomorrow's game.

Well done, Brutus.

Osu fan I know was legitimately pissed with how close the PSU game was. Was borderline enraged at a top ten home win. “We were too sloppy and should’ve won by three or four scores.” was one statement. While true, it was said with disgust, not a tone that said he was glad they won anyway.

it sickens me how good they have it. Winning tomorrow would make them so angry it would be glorious. I can’t even fathom the rage if they lose.

please let it happen

UM fan I know was legitimately pissed with how close the MSU game was. He said the play calling was so bad he had to shut the TV off and leave the house. He came by after the game and I asked how many points he thought they should have scored. He said 70 and was still kind of angry.

I actually doubt most OSU fans will be enraged after a loss tomorrow, unless there's a reverse of the 2016 finish. They'll be disappointed, but they'll also know the rivalry is back on. They can go back to legitimately hating Michigan.

That’s actually somewhat true. While in the moment, of course OSU fans want to win this game badly, and a loss would hurt plenty. Having said that, I do think there’s a small part of us, after the sting of a loss wore off some, that would see the positive in the rivalry being back on, from a win/loss standpoint. Not to mention, because OSU would still have a solid chance of making the playoffs even if they lost, it wouldn’t be a total travesty.  Don’t get me wrong, of course I/we want to win badly.   The best analogy I have is Talladega Nights. The French driver wanted to beat Ricky Bobby, while at the same time, he wanted to see if Ricky Bobby was the guy who could defeat him. It’s a strange dichotomy, because I always want OSU to beat Michigan, every year. I also realize this rivalry won’t be the same until both teams win their share

He's obviously going to play, but anything that keeps him from scrambling out of the pocket and reduces him running RPOs will severely limit their offense and is a plus.

Michigan will play against whoever they line up against. With or without Fields this is still a very dangerous team. Michigan will need to bring their A game, the home crowd needs to be LOUD and the team needs to limit mistakes.

Go Blue!!!

It's weird there's a photo collage of a college player's hand and a discussion/faint hope he's hurt on this blog.  Like, I want UM to finally beat OSU, but I'm not pulling for a college athlete to be hurt to do it

Eye roll, heavy.

Fields being out would have a massive effect on this game. It might be a little obsessive, but OP might also have given the board some new info.  Few are hoping he's hurt meaning "argh, pain to my foes!". But several are noting M's terrible QB injury luck in this game, and saying they won't feel bad if they had some of that same bad luck for a change.

Meh, I wouldn’t mind it. I’ll take a win however I can get it.

OSU fans didn’t give a shit about Gardner’s health when they beat us in 2013-14. They didn’t care that Peters and Speight were injured and they got to face John O’Korn two years ago. They cherish those wins.

I’ll cherish this one if it happens. Even if Justin Fields is not 100%.
