ABC World New Tonight covering Hoke/Morris incident
Just saw ABC national news with a segment on the Hoke/Morris incident. The brushfire is spreading on the national front, and when football stories are covered by non-sports outlets in the media, it isn't going to be pretty.
This, Dave Brandon, is not the "marketing" you want. Stay tuned........

Not just Hoke. I want Brandon fired too, Michigan Stadium freed of rawk and stupid wedding rental announcements, and modern coaching brought to Michigan on both sides of the ball.

Point one I agree with, point two about the low level assistant I don't agree with. If Michigan were undefeated nobody would pay it much mind beyond a question during the presser and then back to questions about the first B1G win of the season. It's all good when the W column is full.

You and I have strongly disagreed on some things, but being a cynic I think you're mostly right here. I believe there would be a bit of a minor controversy, but if we were stomping people the brouhaha would be far smaller than it is now.

And you should include Brandon as well. This is the football program equivalent of an Ebola outbreak.

The NFL is currently in the midsts of a major lawsuit regarding concussions. They've completely revamped their rules and protocol regarding concussions and player safety.
And here is Michigan, with a player who CLEARLY looks concussed (along with other injuries) and the head coach not only leaves him out there, but when he finally does pull him, he sends him back in because, being currently down 30-7 in the 4th quarter, a time out is more important.
The player management was deplorable. It was certainly fireable.

September 28th, 2014 at 7:37 PM ^
his job is to not be clueless. that is why he should be fired.
September 28th, 2014 at 8:09 PM ^
Agreed. But if we believe that he is clueless, why is it so hard to believe that he had no clue about Morris' status?
Putting him back in because you did not know he was hit in the head (no penalty was called) is bad, yes, but not nearly as bad as knowing he may have a concussion and putting him back in anyway.
I think Brady Hoke is a little clueless, but I don't think he is malicious.
Fire him for being an incompetent coach, fine, but don't try to fire him for player mistreatment.
September 28th, 2014 at 8:28 PM ^
understood, it's just that being clueless or maliciously putting morris in both result in morris being out there. so... pick your reason, but either way he should be clearing out his office by 9:15am tomorrow.
September 28th, 2014 at 9:06 PM ^
His general incompetence is what led to player mistreatment. I don't think you can extract the two.
I didn't have the opportunity to watch the game live, but having seen the Morris clip now, I'll say this: I've never seen someone more obviously concussed in my life outside of a Peanuts cartoon. Staggering around the field looking like a drunk person for nearly a minute after multiple plays is incredibly obvious. Putting him back on the field is inexcusable; that there's no one on the sideline who could say "Shane's concussed, he can't go back out there" to Hoke is a systemic failure on the part of the entire team, and the end result is gross player mistreatment. It's absolutely not OK, and at this point sussing out the detailed reason why we should fire him seems redundant, because the macro-level reason we should fire him is sufficient.

M-Dog: Watch the video tape. Hoke Knew.
September 28th, 2014 at 8:18 PM ^
I did.
Hoke is a nice guy in over his head. That is reason enough for him to be fired.
There is no need to slander his personal integrity to try to get him out.
Brady Hoke did not willingly and knowingly push a player with a concussion back into a football game. That's not him.

I agree. I find it very surprising it's getting this kind of coverage.
September 28th, 2014 at 8:47 PM ^
Like I said in another thread, I don't recall another coach putting in a guy a play after he looked like he was about to fall over.

As much as I hate to see the (formerly) good name of Michigan getting dragged through the mud, it is a) deserved and b) hopefully the final blow that will seal the fate of the AD and HC. I didn't think I could witness anything more atrocious than 2008 but I think we're there now.
September 28th, 2014 at 6:40 PM ^
Agree. What's even more amazing it that it's pretty much all happened with the last 3 weeks (since the ND game). This is just unprecedented for UM as a program, but unfortunately it might be what's needed to turn the page and move into a new and (hopefully) better era.

LA LA LA LA LA LA NOT LISTENING LA LA LA LA LA
September 28th, 2014 at 6:32 PM ^
LOL....this is simply comical at this point. Same people will defend it, others will damn him for it.
Fact of the matter is a clean sweep needs to be had in the athletic department and the football program.
Time to fix from ground up instead of trying to bring in someone else to fix the middle levels.
September 28th, 2014 at 6:33 PM ^
office needs to answer for the hit.
Also, looks like someone with power and influence put a call into ABC. This is simply not national news.
September 28th, 2014 at 6:44 PM ^
The Big Ten is counting the DC/NYC money. And yes that hit is bad.
This is on ABC witch is an ESPN partner =power and influence
September 28th, 2014 at 8:45 PM ^
Why is there not more backlash on the ref missing the call and not ejecting the Minny player?

September 28th, 2014 at 6:35 PM ^
They probably thought it was a good filler on ABC tonight since ESPN ran with it and yesterday and wanted to get it some more air time is my thought.
September 28th, 2014 at 6:37 PM ^
I dunno if it was on Final or anything, but the incident has like no mention on ESPN's website. It's mentioned in passing in the column by one of their Big Ten writers, but not like it's outrageous like it has been here and Maizenbrew and around the CFB blogger twittersphere.
September 28th, 2014 at 7:11 PM ^
It was on the ESPN homepage all morning as the third of the content blocks below the main image, one of those sections with several stories.
September 28th, 2014 at 7:23 PM ^
Unless they've changed it, that's more a "Man, Michigan sucks and Brady Hoke is so fired in two months" story.

This is a little ridiculous. I want Hoke gone as much as everyone right now, and what he did was reprehensible, but is this ABC World News-worthy? ISIS, ebola, shootings, volcanoes...Shane Morris? Come on.

September 28th, 2014 at 7:36 PM ^
Well, did you see that fumble?
September 28th, 2014 at 6:45 PM ^
I would prefer Michigan get national coverage for all the right reasons. This is not the right reason. This is really sad.
September 28th, 2014 at 6:45 PM ^
It was fairly basic, I thought. They tied it to the general issue of concussions in football, comparing and contrasting the college rules and the NFL rules. Brady didn't come out looking very good.

ABC World News will cover it.
The BBC's got Nuss, CNN has GMatt.
September 28th, 2014 at 6:47 PM ^
Just watched the piece. It was not a good visual for Hoke or UM.
They have to answer for this, at the very least there needs to be some sort of CYA response about putting new protocols in place to make sure it never happens again.
I suspect our coach and our AD will go into further lockdown Fort Schembechler mode. Which is weak.
End this charade. Cashier them both.

Hoke was on the same newscast as ISIS.
How the fuck is he still employed. There is no way ANYONE can justify him having a job right now. Or BrandOn, for that matter.
