U-M Club of Washington, DC Presents: "An Evening with Brian Cook of MGoBlog"

On behalf of the U-M Club of Washington, DC, I'm pleased to announce "An Evening with Brian Cook of MGoBlog".
At the event, Brian will review the football season, preview the upcoming bowl matchup, and discuss the Michigan basketball and ice hockey seasons to date. He’ll take prepared questions from our moderator (yours truly) and answer your questions on these and related topics.
In advance of the event, I will crowdsource (on topic) questions from the entire user base in a separate MGoBoard post. Selected questions will inform the prepared portion of the Q&A for each topic, but I'll also leave ample time for attendees to ask their own questions.
Date and Time: Thursday, December 6 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm.
Location: Holland & Knight, 800 17th Street, NW, Suite 1100, Washington, DC 20006
Metro Stations: Farragut West (Blue & Orange Lines), Farragut North (Red Line)
Admission: AAUM Members: $20; Non-members: $25. Admission includes beer, wine, and appetizers.
Registration: Online registration is available here. You may also register over the phone by calling the Alumni Association at 800-847-4764.
Questions may be referred to Alex Jaffe, 301-928-8030, alexjaffe@gmail.com.
We're hoping to draw between 65-90 people to this event. If we're able to achieve that level of attendance, it's likely the Club would invite Brian to a return engagement in 2013. So, all of you DMV MGoUsers, tell your friends, sign up and come out to interact with Brian and your fellow members of the MGoBlogerati.
Just as I'm stuck out of the country for 6 weeks on a business trip :(
And by "stuck out of the country" you mean "playing 'World of Warcraft.'"
But seeing internet friends IRL?
Hope you get your turnout.
"Over? Did you say, over? Nothing is over until we decide it is!"
How would one go about having a similar event like this in Chicago? I know a ton of my fellow MGoBloggers would love to attend. MGoShoe....any advice?
My guess is the first step would be to email the Alumni Association and Brian about it. I know the Chicago AAUM had Gerry DiNardo in for a pre-season thing, so they do these kind of events.
"Over? Did you say, over? Nothing is over until we decide it is!"
Basically do the same thing, except this time not have it suck.
"I love him, he's a great coach, he's a great mentor, he's a great friend. He's every single thing you want a college coach to be, and he does it flawlessly." -David Molk
...of the U-M Club of DC about this several months ago after seeing the reports of the NYC event. We chose early Dec to avoid the NYC summer event, have it occur in the midst of the football, basketball and hockey seasons, and avoid game nights.
Bottom line: It took amenable Club leadership and a willing Brian Cook. I can't answer the question of how amenable the Chicago Club is and how willing Brian is to take on another one of these things. If I were you, I'd let this one happen, and then engage with him. I wouldn't recommend overloading him.

About how you left the site because he was driving you crazy? Because that'd be awesome. I might fly in for that.
But in all seriousness, it sounds like a great event. Though every time I hear "An Evening With..." I picture smoking jackets, pipes, good liquor, and piano music played lightly in the background.

...and spend the majority of the time rehashing old disagreements. Should be riveting stuff. Hope to see you there.

MGoShoe, I figure you might be a good person to ask about this. I moved to DC in August from Ann Arbor (BA 2008, worked for U-M until now) and want to try to be more engaged with the UM Alumni Club. Do you know a good place to start or a good person to talk with? I have seen a ton of different committees on the site but I don't know what half of them even mean...
Thanks!

...in the club since I moved to the exurbs 14 years ago. Recommend you contact Alex Jaffe. Contact info in the body of the OP.
Do plan to attend the annual Congressional Breakfast event held in the Feb/Mar timeframe.

The DC Club is very, very excited about this event. A big thanks to Brian, MGoShoe, and Jacqueline the President of the NYC club for helping make this happen.
MGoShoe is correct, I am the person to speak with if you are interested in getting involved with the club. I'd love to hear from you expatriate, plus any others who are in DC and have any questions about the DC alumni club. http://www.umdc.org

I will be there, and with my girlfriend if she's interested. I got excited for this when I saw it in the email, it was a great idea.
No way this is a real event that people are attending! There is just no way. Please tell me this is one of those "9th green at 9" tricks where if you show up you are sprayed with hose water!
...so quickly? After we hose you down, we march you over to Lafayette Park and ask the USSS Uniformed Division to arrest you. Please register and pay your $20/25 so we can afford to buy the hoses and pay off the Secret Service.

I didn't even read the description all the way through....THIS COST MONEY!?!? Do people actually pay to go to this? It's gotta be like Detroit Pistons tickets where it says they are a certain price but they just end up giving away all the tickets. Am I correct on this as well?
I mean...you do get beer, wine, and appetizers. Money is generally accepted in exchange for those products.
You must not be from around here.
You made the same mistake as me by not reading the full description. If you pay 20 you are paying to sit indian style and listen to Brian from MGoBlog tell stories about Denard Robinson and is magical powers (a product money should never be accepted for).
False. I never make mistakes.
RDT, is that you? You little rascal!
Disgruntled former moderator. I got a lot of problems with you people!
I'll be there too -- should be a fun evening.
I can't make it, guys. I guess you'll have to reschedule.
Is there any chance of Heiko and Al Borges doing a panel discussion for the Cincinnati alumni club? I'd be willing to travel to Columbus or Louisville as well. ;-)
Lesigh.
No way I can get down to DC from Baltimore by 530 on a Thursday. Doubt I will be even leaving my office by then

In the same boat. And I have a work event that evening that was this close to being cancelled. I really need a hug from that creepy guy scaring that panda.
"And when we play as a team, when the old season is over, you and I know, it's gonna be Michigan again, Michigan."
I guess they wanted someone who knows what he's talking about instead.
Now come to Colorado so that I can join! Lodo's! Ill put $100 towards your plane ticket! Any other contributors?
Definitely attending. Can you make it mandatory for people to show up wearing the photo bomb t-shirt?
Gopoohgo, come down from Baltimore, the first ~45 minutes are meant for mingling, Brian won't start speaking until later!
You had so many fans, that radio gig must be workin out fer ya
"I am excited to be with Brady and I am excited about where this program is headed" D C Coach Mattison
but now in Texas must be so pissed!

...non-alums are absolutely welcome to attend.

...if you're thinking of attending. Sign up sooner rather than later.
Thanks in advance.

Considering the events of the week in conference?
Can't wait to see reaction to Brian saying it's horrible the region he's talking to is now in the Big Ten.
