Hi, in DC, Pour House and Buffalo Billiards are replaced by RFD now.
|9 weeks 2 days ago||DC Trip||
DC Trip has about a hundred sold tickets. NYC has about fifty.
Experience with Jared and SPW so far has been great.
We will be a large and loud group!

The alumni dues do a lot of good...and should be considered as a way to help other students and graduates while also getting a few perks for yourself.
Dues help provide scholarships to aspiring Wolverines.
They fund a career office that helps both graduates (like you) with finding opportunities/development, and they connect current students with alumni for internships
The dues directly aid with funding programming in your city with your local club. For instance: Last year the DC club was able to bring in Brian Cook to speak to our members thanks to this money.

I feel a little silly buying Maryland season tickets last week, given that U-M won't be coming to town until 2015. I guess I'll have some amazing seats by the time they do...
With OSU/MSU away every other year, that provides an automatic easier schedule/harder schedule every other year.

I'm going in just for Monday (assuming all goes well Saturday). I'll be staying downtown.
Where will all the Michigan folks be celebrating during the day and after work prior to the game?
The Atlanta alumni club recommends Whitehall Tavern and Pepperoni's, neither of which are near downtown.
Edit: found this on the final four website?
Gibney’s Pub -- Michigan
Dishing out drinks and American pub fare since 1997, Gibney’s is the local neighborhood bar in Downtown Atlanta. Our Keno, pool tables, shuffleboard, jukebox, and multiple video games make Gibney’s the perfect place to grab a cold one (or two or three) and relax. Our famous Chili Frito Pie and New York thin crust pizza will have you coming back again and again!

The Congressional Breakfast is a really unique event. Here is who attends:
About 30 different representatives from UM, including Mary Sue Coleman. Mary Sue Coleman always speaks, and gives an update of what's happening in Ann Arbor. Info you might not otherwise hear. In addition to Mary Sue, folks from various schools also attend. It's a way for the University to reach out to local alumni as well as members of Congress.
Around a dozen members of Congress or more, most of them representatives from southeastern Michigan, or senators. There are other members of Congress who attend as well.
This year, MI Governor Rick Snyder.
Steve Grafton & Mary Sue Coleman will speak, Gov Snyder will speak as the keynote, and the DC club President Charmaine Chan will speak as well. The Glee Club alumni perform.
All in all, about 400-500 people attend annually. The local club contributes $35,000 annually broken into two scholarships for high school seniors to attend UM. The event is far, far and away the big fundraiser for this scholarship fund. I encourage you to bid early and often.
Anyone, even if you are not attending, can bid here beginning 2/25: http://umdc2013auction.schoolauction.net/auction2013/
Any more questions I am happy to answer!

I don't get the black crown commercial. Clearly Bud is not in the taste market, but rather in the drink as many as you can market. But why point that out so obviously?

The DC Club is very, very excited about this event. A big thanks to Brian, MGoShoe, and Jacqueline the President of the NYC club for helping make this happen.
MGoShoe is correct, I am the person to speak with if you are interested in getting involved with the club. I'd love to hear from you expatriate, plus any others who are in DC and have any questions about the DC alumni club. http://www.umdc.org

I lived in Birmingham AL for 7 years. I guarantee you that Auburn fans are rooting against Alabama every chance they get. There is nothing more than they would like to do than taunt their friends and coworkers on a Bama loss on Monday.
Their hatred and dislike for each other is beyond healthy

Sounds like a great event. Thanks for the recap. That's great of them to make the trip out to NYC.
If they're willing to make it out to DC, I am sure the club can setup a similar event.

The fantasy genre is plauged by so many bad writers. There is a ton of filler and a ton of writing that re-hashes the same "save the world" stories over and over. As an adult I feel ridiculous and guilty for reading a lot of these writers. Then there are a few authors who write with fantastic pace and once you open the book you can't stop. They are:
Brandon Sanderson (Misborn series, Elantris. No fantasy author is better at pacing and excitement/surprises that are worth reading for)
Patrick Rothfuss (Two books only, no fantasy author is a better character developer, you will love these novels)
Peter Brett (Two books only, a fantastic fast-pace read that is well worth it)
Robert Jordan (Okay, this one isn't paced well, it's a 14 book series being finished though by Brandon Sanderson)
Other than the above, I can't bring myself to read any other authors because nothing else compares.
Sci Fi: A quick nod to Ender's Game and all the novels and Orson Scott Card writes in that realm

All of us except Jay Paterno believe the Freeh report to be the truth. Remember though that Freeh is an independent investigator. No court of law nor an NCAA investigation has determined with finality that the Penn state employees covered up for Sandusky yet. We are getting ahead of ourselves with saying what the NCAA should do to punish Penn state...because they haven't finished their probe.
Dirty recruiting? Miamis scandal? Tattoo gate? Paying cam newtons father? None of these come close to what happened at PSU.
If the NCAA finds these guys guilty, and justifies the power to punish them through the fact they gained an unfair advantage, how can you not give the death penalty and ban all these guys from intercollegiate athletics.
