Zero Point Zero
Notre Dame 31, Michigan 0
Michigan had never been shut out in the history of the Michigan/Notre Dame rivalry. Michigan hadn’t been shut out in any game since Ronald Reagan’s first term. Neither of those things is true right now. In fact, nothing is true but the alcohol.
Football is strange sometimes. Michigan outgained Notre Dame 289-282. If you find comfort in this fact, I applaud your zen-like quality, or the quality of your alcohol. Devin Gardner turned the ball over four times. Matt Wile missed two field goals badly. Devin Funchess may be hurt. Raymon Taylor may be hurt. Jabrill Peppers was too hurt to play. On a day in which the Big Ten looked terrible, Michigan’s performance stands atop the flaming heap as the worst of the day.
This game will cause many questions to be asked. For now, I can provide you with only one answer.

I was wondering about that.
I saw 31 on ESPN. I saw the pick but didn't keep it on to see a flag.

Can continue to dump millions into the many athletic programs and facility update plans it has while allowing this to continue in their largest revenue sport is beyond me.
While the Oline along with an impressive ND defense had much to do with Devin's struggles tonight, I sure hope Morris gets some reps this season so he's ready to play in 2015 under what I can only hope is a new coaching staff that has a clue and cares more about coaching than trying to act like the players' cool uncle.

or leaves to take on a new challenge, or goes back to his home planet where he is needed, or whatever they end up calling it, the new AD will probably be able to negotiate a new Notre Dame series. 90% of the reason it's ending is because Brandon and the Notre Dame AD hate each other, so hopefully Michigan puts an end to this Brandon tragicomedy so the series can resume before doomsday.
Also let's hope Brandon is forced out soon so that a new AD will be in place to pick the next coach, who hopefully won't have a .500 record with no conference championships whose teams melt down every time they take 3 steps away from Ann Arbor. And maybe Michigan will run no huddle in the 4th quarter down by 4 touchdowns.

I stopped at a bar on the way home from the game - because I needed more alcohol despite dropping $40 on alcohol during the game.
Then I got home to realize I'm out of booze... Except for Tanqueray (which I hate) and a porter which I've been saving for winter.
I took a swig of the Tanq and now am drinking the porter....

Russ Rein helped too.
But in fairness, those guys were inexperienced backups that were thrown into action before they were ready, ala Russell Bellomy. Zurbrugg became decent by the end of the season.
We don't have anything to hang our hat on like that this year.

A HC candidate smart enough to be what we need is going to be too smart to work for Brandon.

Nonetheless I can't avoid having the same feeling about Michigan's head football coach tonight that I did trudging out of the stadium after the 2010 game against Wisconsin:
Dead man walking.

Fire him now and the new coach will have five months before signing day (and a bunch of shots after our entire class de-commits)

That picture doesn't have nearly enough tires and the fire is obviously far too small.
To make matters worse, I'm out of lemons and Everclear.

That would have been my suggestion for the post title, but Zero Point Zero is probably more on point... zero.

I was a Hoke supporter and after last year, I thought this is the make it or break it year.. After this fiasco, how much lower does Michigan have to go before we need a change...
1) Injuries are part of the game and to end the game 31-0 (and lucky that we got a penalty which negated a pick-6), that is just no excuses..
2) The play calls are lacking adjustments on both sides.. Seriously, no fast tempo offense when we are down how many points? There was no sense of urgency (I still grimaced on a draw on a 3rd and 9 to Smith which followed with a sack to end the drive with any serious threat to score)
3) Defense has no pressure (seriously, we can't argue anymore that)... Injuries don't make it an excuse....
4) The game just was the apex of disaster

And hoke did nothing to avoid it. He ate his timeouts rather than have one last shot on O with a minute+ to work with. He didn't seem to care.

I've had two arrogant bastard ales, two shots of whiskey, and two xanax. I am still barely coping. Anybody up for a bang while crying?

Is it brewed by the Brandon Brewing Company?

Indeed it is. Almost as good as the "I am footballing as hard as I can, but you can't coach your way out of a chicken sack".
September 6th, 2014 at 11:39 PM ^
...too busy trying to be this than adding any actual value to the program. Glad we have a couple cool uncles for recruits to mingle with. Seems to be working out so well.

How do you lose by 31 and give up less than 300 yrds of total offense?
September 7th, 2014 at 12:06 AM ^
turnovers and no offense

It seemed like every play Green or Smith was running into a pile of bodies in the interior line for nothing, or Garnder was throwing to the wrong team, or Cole and Magnusen were watching Sheldon Day walk right by them, or Gardner was panicking for no apparent reason even when we had decent blocking. I can understand the defense giving up 31 points especially with how bad our offense was and our corners repeatedly having no idea how to play man coverage with a linebacker coaching them on coverage, but 0 points is inexcusible.
I know it'll be said too often, but Gardner did not look like an FBS quarterback today, let alone a 5th year senior. The offensive line was bad, that is true, but his decision making was just as bad. He has a ton of heart, and lots of physical potential; I'm just not sure he has what it takes to be a successful quarterback consistently, and that's really sad because he deserves success as much as anyone we've had. :(

I missed all but the last half of the fourth quarter. As I understand it, Notre Dame blitzed a lot. How is it that Michigan still does not appear to have any type of check or hot read or anything to make them pay?
