...whether you like all of them or not, Hoke hired guys with a great deal of experience in the positions he's hired them for (Mattison as DC, Borges for OC, and Dan Ferrigno for ST).

I gotta say it, take this comment and see if the Salvation Army wants to auction it off with any remainder RR clothing items. RR worked hard, but he's gone. He's the past.
We now have a OC who was undefeated in the SEC, an even more accomplished DC who won a NC at Florida, and a new HC who turned two programs around.
Welcome to the future. Go Blue!
January 18th, 2011 at 6:13 PM ^
Mattison's first priority should be to contact Blake Countess and lock him up. Second is to convince Frost to play LB and switch to Michigan. Then go down to Florida and snag a DL.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:21 PM ^
Mattison should make the in house visit while he is still in the state. OK, Maybe I am rushing things.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:42 PM ^
It would save a trip on Air Dominos, and we all know about those crazy jet fuel prices,I just can't my hands on any anymore.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:14 PM ^
Alright let's get to work recruiting now!
January 18th, 2011 at 6:14 PM ^
I hope this time it means more than it did when Harbaugh was "expected" to come to Michigan.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:15 PM ^
Just a guess here, but I don't think Mattison is coming in to run the 3-3-5
January 18th, 2011 at 6:18 PM ^
That's a good thing. Maybe the best of things.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:23 PM ^
Oh please God thank you Jesus
January 18th, 2011 at 6:50 PM ^
This is too funny, I bet if they had won they would all be throwing a hissie fit that Mattison is leaving.
January 19th, 2011 at 3:09 AM ^
Go to the bank and hire Gruden. This team is built to win now.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:15 PM ^
as I was hoping for.
Definitely seems like a good hire though.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:15 PM ^
and Les Miles is our HC.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:23 PM ^
But Grizzly Adams DID have a beard.

dee doo dee doo...
"I Win!"
January 18th, 2011 at 6:18 PM ^
The best recruiting pitch that Mattison has is I left Lewis,Suggs, and Reed for the chance to coach you. When should I expect your verbal?
The Baltimore radio stations are reporting it as official.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:17 PM ^
I really hope this is true! I feel like its a great hire, go blue!
January 18th, 2011 at 6:17 PM ^
Tom or Magnus or anyone...what potential defensive recruits will this help with the most?
January 18th, 2011 at 6:20 PM ^
The defensive ones.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:23 PM ^
Thats why I asked what potential DEFENSIVE recruits this would help with the most.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:26 PM ^
Ok...I'll take this one...
All of them.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:44 PM ^
Honestly, though...look at what you asked from an outside perspective. In what scenario does going from no DC to a DC with NFL experience and college roots not help with a given recruit?
January 18th, 2011 at 6:49 PM ^
I was just wondering if there were specific recruits that this might impact. Maybe Jernigan would consider us strongly again. We might not be using a 3-3-5. Will this give us more of a chance with Frost. I was just wondering if there were any specific highly ranked recruits that might we might be able to get now that we made this hire.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:55 PM ^
I'd hold off on the no 3-3-5 defense until you read the Ravens Fire Mattison scout thread. Aparently he's prone to only rushing three defenders.
Seriously though I think this is going to have a greater effect on next years class, I think Jernigan is Florida's and with Auburn's newly instated 100 schollies Frost has a spot there.
January 18th, 2011 at 10:00 PM ^
He was in a prevent D. They typically run a 4-3.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:17 PM ^
Best news Michigan fans have received since the Illinois game.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:18 PM ^
I suspect Maryland resident Darian Cooper may have heard of him and be excited by this hire...
January 18th, 2011 at 6:18 PM ^
Until Adam Schefter refutes the reports.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:18 PM ^
I'm waiting for someone to say this actually happened. I won't do my celebratory shot until an announcement is made... I will however continue my standard (heavy) scotch consumption until this is done and we've had our successful NSD.

SHOTS!
January 18th, 2011 at 6:34 PM ^
Well now im officially going to black out tonight THANK YOU
January 18th, 2011 at 6:38 PM ^
It tastes like victory!
January 18th, 2011 at 6:19 PM ^
To go from coaching the likes Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, and Terell Suggs to coaching that defense we had out there last year....Not saying he can't turn it around immediately but it will be tough. I am trying to be an optimist and a realist at the same time. I think he can have great success.
Go Blue!
January 18th, 2011 at 6:50 PM ^
is that which GERG never did BLITZ. Immediately results will be better.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:20 PM ^
I'm hoping this isn't like when The Knowledge said we'd be getting Rex Ryan and we ended up with GERG
January 19th, 2011 at 2:02 AM ^
I was wondering if anybody else remembered that. Pretty eerie that THE KNOWLEDGE was right about us eventually poaching Baltimore's DC -- just off by a couple years.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:21 PM ^
I was less then impressed with his work as our DC in 95-96 but he's obviously improved as DC with his experience and checks every box we were looking to fill. Very excited.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:27 PM ^
Nevermind my skepticism. I've seen the light on the Raven's website.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:25 PM ^
thats official enough for me. Ravens basically confirmed that he's left, likely hasn't signed for Michigan yet so nothings announced yet
January 18th, 2011 at 6:26 PM ^
From the above link:
In addition, Mattison’s daughter, Lisa, lives in Ann Arbor, Mich., and is having a baby soon.
If wanting to be closer to his grandkid is one of the reasons we got Mattison, well, this kid may be one of the MVPs of the 2011 season.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:31 PM ^
Save him a spot in the 2029 recruiting class!!
January 18th, 2011 at 7:05 PM ^
Even Lane Kiffen can Recruit like us!
January 18th, 2011 at 6:23 PM ^
At least he wont have to scheme against Ben Roethlisberger anymore. Good hire.
January 18th, 2011 at 6:23 PM ^
with Mattison, and a few good defensive recruits just think of the possibilities we'll have next year! Go Blue!
