I thought he looked like

I thought he looked like "Lyle" from the Summer of George episode of Seinfeld

I, too, am going

I was wondering this myself.  From one of the responses in the last thread, it looks like Lot 49 is the place to go.  Seems like a lot of the lots are only open to people with season parking passes, which is irritating.

THE HUGE SHOW IS TERRRRRIIIBBBLLLLLLLLEEEE

But that being said I listened to a lot of the Bacon interview yesterday on the way home and it was good ... mostly because Bacon was talking a lot, and "Huge" (read: dipshit) hardly said anything.

In the interview, Bacon mostly re-hashes everything he's already said in the stuff Brian posted.  But it was cool to hear him actually say it.  Sounds like a very smart, unassuming guy who has his shit together; knows the difference between what he knows and what he thinks he knows.  He sounds very credible and I'll probably believe everything I read when my copy finally gets delivered.

Hopefully this book puts some pressure on Carr/Martin/etc to speak up and explain themselves -- but they probably won't.

FTFY

days until either Seth or Matt triumphantly converts 20 glorious EXTRA POINTS against Western (and Michigan will win regardless of who kicks THEM).

I'm sorry

It's just funny as hell.  That's all that needs to be said.

The finish to that game was absolutely insane
  • Another missed chip shot FG causing most of the crowd to leave (good thing we've fixed that problem ... oh wait)
  • Critical 3-and-out forced by the defense
  • Tyrese fucking Butler recovering that Edwards fumble because somehow he was the only player on the field who didn't stop playing
  • That too-many-men-on-the-field penalty to get us into field goal range, and then.....
  • ALPACA ERRRRRRR PHIL BRABBS OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE

I feel like this game gets overlooked when people talk about the great games in recent Michigan football history for some reason.  It was my first game in the student section and I'll sure as hell never forget it.

I don't know if I'd say that's the "kicker"

because those three paragraphs are really pretty much the entire article.  The rest of it is just filler -- fluffy quotes from Doug Archie, fluffy quotes from Orville Redenbacher, etc.  They could've just published those three paragraphs but instead tried to stretch it out to take up more page space.

I'm not sure how big of a deal all of that is, but I am sure that OSU will have some explanation for it, truthful or not.  Unfortunately I think it's gonna take more than just this to bring about that big juicy LOIC allegation we're all hoping for.

Meh

but yeah it still beats the shit out of anything the B1G has come out with lately

You can count on Simmons to kick ass on the wrestling front, especially whenever he waxes nostalgic about the glory days of the late 80's and early 90's.  Probably because wrestling is so similar to his other passion, the NBA.

Ultimately, uniforms probably don't mean much, you're right...

but it's a way for us to make ourselves stand out get some extra attention.  And I'll repeat that the most important thing for us to do is win the game -- if we don't do that, it doesn't really matter what we wear.  Personally I think it'd be badass if we wore those hideous things and still won -- it sends a message along the lines of "we can wear this stuff and still look awesome because we're that damn good" -- but that might be just me.

Obviously at the end of the day uniforms don't mean much to a recruit, but like I said, it's a good way to get some attention (as long as we win).

I'm one of the people who has criticized him for leaving

and I'm sticking with my rationale.  He has A LOT of work to do to become a serviceable NBA player.  In his 2 years here he displayed no outside jumper, no ability to use his left hand, and despite his ability to distribute the ball he still dribbled too much.  I'M NOT SAYING HE DOESN'T HAVE THE TALENT TO BE A VERY GOOD NBA POINT GUARD, I just thought he could benefit more from starting for another year in college rather than riding a bench in the NBA (or sitting at home if there's a work stoppage).

HOWEVA, my initial criticism was also based on him being projected to go in the 2nd round.  With him now being almost unanimously projected to go in the 1st, his decision is a lot easier to defend, especially since next year's draft will be loaded.  Still, I think he could have really improved his draft standing (read: rookie contract) if he stayed here another year.

I'd love to be able to refer to him as

the "well-dressed Armani Reeves" as a throwback to the ESPN days before Chris Berman was a caricature of a caricature of himself and NFL Primetime had to be merged into SC.

Either that

or it's one hell of an esoteric reference.

I do love that pic of Threet though, in all it's vaingloriousness.  I was at that game and I remember losing my shit once I realized he still had the ball and was quietly running through the Wisconsin defensive backfield.

I think they're ugly as hell, but the thing is...

... Oregon's been wearing ugly-as-shit uniforms full-time for like 7 or 8 years now, and recruits have been FLOCKING there*.  I actually think this would be a good thing -- recruits don't want to go somewhere that always just does the same old shit, they want to go somewhere that's edgy and DGAF what the rest of the world thinks.  Either way, the most important thing is that we win the game.

*Though possibly and hopefully for other (illegitimate) reasons

First off, all thoughts,

First off, all thoughts, prayers, and condolences should go to the Douglas family.  This is truly a tragic time for them.

Second off ... they're all over this at EDSBS and it looks like the person at ESPN who wrote it was a UM grad (http://www.everydayshouldbesaturday.com/2011/5/12/2167778/report-aaron-douglas-alabama-lineman-found-dead-in-jacksonville#comments).  So be prepared for an onslaught of scUM-bashing on the internets.  Tough to disagree that Mr. Lin deserves the e-beating that he's taking but unfortunately it probably won't stop at him.

Let's keep this in perspective though -- the story here is a young man losing his life far too soon (although the ESPN Insider story is becoming even bigger, unfortunately).  Again, thoughts and prayers should go to the Douglas family and the Alabama family as a whole, which has had to deal with far too much tragedy in the past few weeks.

In the days following the goal

I remember WRIF putting together a mash-up of "Hey Man Nice Shot" with clips of Mickey LOSING HIS SHIT from the call of that goal.  I wonder if it still lives on somewhere in the internets...

On an unrelated note, it looked like there were a few empty seats in the lower bowl at the start of OT #2, I wonder how many people missed the goal b/c they were in an infamous Joe Louis bathroom line.  THAT.  WOULD.  SUCK.

Which Lidstrom center-ice goal?

He's scored 2 ... one in G3 vs Vancouver in 2002 and one in G6 vs Nashville in 2008.

Also what was the Statue of Liberty goal?  UPDATE:  Just saw where you explained it further up the thread.  Never heard it called that before -- either way yeah that was awesome, fuck Roy.

PASS SPORTS FTW

PASS SPORTS FTW

He had one final statement after all of that:

"And we're gonna get started right after we get this little OSU thing out of the way.  Getting tatoos of cars or whatever it was.  Oh dear, those Buckeyes are so silly sometimes ... welp, boys will be boys!"

No argument here

Mickey Redmond is Godsend.  Red Wings playoff games with Mickey in the booth are things to be cherished.  Ken Daniels does a great job too.

I think I'd rather see a

I think I'd rather see a healthy Modano than a hobbled Franzen, even if Franzen thinks he can go.  I love The Mule but he just hasn't been able to give us much in this series.  Modano is "chomping at the bit" per the ESPN.com Preview.

I'm guessing the NHL is

I'm guessing the NHL is concerned that fans in SJ might have a tough time getting to the arena by 6pm.  The HYPOTHETICAL Game 7 is scheduled for 9pm though FWIW ... which is hopefully something.

I do understand

that it makes sense for them to pander to big markets.  I also understand that the Lakers' flame-out was one of historic proportions and obviously deserved more attention than the Wings/Sharks game.

The content still needs to add value though.  If they want to spend time giving me thoughtful insight as to why the Lakers were so bad, or where they go from here, that's fine.  But hearing Magic Johnson slowly repeat obvious statements after watching several minutes of post-game press conference fluff is just Goddamn mind-numbing.  SportsCenter doesn't need to be 2 fucking hours long.

I realize that I can go online (or to ESPNews, or wherever) if I just want to see highlights, but why does SC have to be so irritating to watch now?  I honestly don't know who is still watching it at this point, not counting the people who leave it on and set the sleep timer.

Very provocative "There are..." right here

Incorporating recruits AND throwing Mike Hart out there as our future head coach?  Spicy stuff.

BTW, thinking about Mike Hart taking the helm after 25 or-so years of Hoke-led dominance damn near gives me goosebumps.  Then again it's also cold in my office.

Also, it's not exactly a cliche, but...

I'm so beyond sick of EVERY GAME needing to be broken down by a panel of talking head "experts" on SportsCenter for 15 minutes.  SC has become so watered down with these segments that it's pretty much intolerable to watch now -- especially because most of these experts can't even form a complete sentence.

CASE IN POINT: On last night's SportsCenter we got to hear Magic Johnson spend 5 minutes repeating himself about how the Lakers' play was embarassing (no shit Magic, thanks for that), while all of 30 seconds were spent showing Wings/Sharks highlights.

Everything has to be "... EVER"

Best ever.  Worst ever.  Craziest ever.

I also hate "take it to the next level" or "step their game up".  Just a less-straightforward way of saying "play better".  FUCK OFF AND TAKE YOUR SUPERFICIAL ANALYSIS WITH YOU, YOU ARE ADDING NOTHING BY SAYING THIS.

"Walk-off single" is a lot worse IMO

I'm okay with walk-off homer, because if the guy walks around the bases after a home run it's okay.  On the other hand A SINGLE CANNOT BE A WALK-OFF BECAUSE IF THE FUCKER WALKS TO FIRST BASE HE WILL BE THROWN OUT FROM THE OUTFIELD.

HANS, BHOOOBIE [sp?]

I'll finish the thread title

"... until Tressel is gone"

One solid purchase I made before last year...

was one of those big orange Coleman water coolers with the spigot at the bottom.  It was an impulse buy at Meijer for like $15 (on-sale), but having a bigass jug of water is helpful for washing hands, re-hydrating between high-gravity malted beverages, and so on.

Plus if we get a huge win, there's the chance I could talk somebody into pouring it all over my head like I'm a head coach.

Sharks lead right now 3-0 midway through the 2nd

I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin.  Not that anybody's reading this anyway.

Chicago, by contrast, is up 5-0 on Vancouver.  Maybe we were debating the wrong series...

If he leaves he's fucking retarded

No outside shot, no left hand.  Obviously he'll get drafted if he leaves, but he could improve his draft position A LOT if he sticks around for a year and just develops a perimeter shot.  IT MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE FOR HIM TO GO TO THE NBA RIGHT NOW.  I know it's easy for me to say, but he could get a hell of a lot better of a rookie contract if he sticks around one more year.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say "oh screw him he wasn't that good anyway", because he's talented as hell and I'm grateful as hell that he went to Michigan ... but I just don't think it makes sense for him to leave right now when he could be a LOTTERY PICK next year.  Oh, and there's that whole lockout thing.

Agree to disagree

I understand that the Sharks have a history of underachieving in the playoffs.  This Kings team hasn't exactly proven itself either though -- in fact they had a 2-1 series lead in the first round last year (can't remember who they played) and ended up losing the next 3.

I just don't see a young team like the Kings bouncing back from a collapse like that, at least not against a team as talented as the Sharks.  Maybe 99% is too strong though ... I'll downgrade it to 97.34%.

I'd be all over it, but I

I'd be all over it, but I can't handle the uncertainty of not knowing when the games will be.  It looks about 99% certain that we'll play the Sharks though, meaning we won't have home-ice.  (Vancouver will probably finish off Chicago tonight and I don't think the Kings can recover from their Game 3 bed-shitting the other night).

I agree on all counts

Good voice ... check.

Plays her own instrument ... check.

Possesses qualities prized by the superficial man ... check.

But it just doesn't all come together for me.  I don't hate all R&B, I just think a lot of her songs are pretentious and cheesy as hell.  I haven't respected her since that damn "No One" song or whatever it was called, from 2008.  All of her songs get overplayed too, so even the ones I kind of like (e.g. Empire State of Mind) start to piss me off after a while.

FUCKING FIGURES

Expect the season to start no sooner than October 16th

Well if she did

she'd probably better at it than she is at making music.
