Matt's is the 4th best…

Matt's is the 4th best Mexican restaurant in a 1 mile stretch of South Lamar.  It is the biggest and most touristy, but no one who lives here would call it the "best".

I know that playing Elon and…

I know that playing Elon and Houston Baptist is stupid, when Central and Eastern Michigan are just as much auto-win 150 spots higher in KenPom, but do you know why State's SOS is 40 and UM's is 85 when the schedules compare like this?

I must be old if I'm the only one whose brain went immediately to these.

The best replay in sports is…

The best replay in sports is the National Rugby League in Australia.  They have a subset of things they can review.  There is a centralized review team for the league. The review generally takes less than 30 seconds, and almost never more than a minute.

But the best part is that the television broadcast sees the exact same replay they're looking at in the booth, and the review official tells you what he's looking at or looking for.  Then tells you the decision in real time.  It's not some black box process that goes on for 5 minutes while broadcasters try to fill time.  In my time living in Australia, this was the thing I most wanted to bring back to the US.

Living in Australia for a year made me hate the way we do replay even more.  The NRL in Australia has reviews that take less than 30 seconds, and the the TV broadcasts the review official talking through what they're looking for, what they see, and their ultimate decision as they go. They may not always get it right, but it's fast, and you always know why they made the ruling they did.  I would KILL to have Rugby League-style replay in the US.

GfyCat pros outweigh cons

In the mobile app, the GFYCat GIFs do an auto launch, which is sub-optimal, but not awful. On the plus side, they load as a new window that I can close instead of hitting a back button that takes me to the MGoBlog home where I need to click back through and find my place in the post. +1 for current GFYCat. Would give a +3 UFR if we could stop the auto-launch

No worries...

Everyone gets confused from time to time... I honestly thought I was missing some joke, and that was bad, and I felt bad.

Not sure if serious...

Tom Harmon was at Michigan from 1937-1940...

No...

At least not close enough for it to show up in any family history.

Not sure how

The instructions I found required downloading Windows Live Writer which I can't do on the company laptop. Would be happy to bump, though, with some flagella from the moms.

Sucks...

Grant was the one exciting thing about Rutgers football.  Hope he can bounce back and either get another year, or be ready for a combine.  Too much talent to not have a future in football.

That's not how math works, though...

You need to block every defensive player for a basic run to work. You can scheme to get the defenders in the wrong gap, but I'm perfectly happy not putting those plays on film against a horrible, no good team. It's not about "imposing your will", it's about math. 6 people can't block 8 people. So you throw over the top.... Which we did... And scored 51.

If you want to be specific and say that you wish our TEs didn't biff so many blocks, I'll agree with you. But the "we should be able to push them around more even if their whole team focuses solely on the run" stuff is just unsupported by the way the game actually works.

Obligatory (Language NSFW)...

More like 14 ppg...

Ohhh.... you meant points AGAINST!

Speaking of Gotcha Questions...

Is someone from the Freep asking all the Biff Poggi question?  As a non-coach, I believe he's not actually allowed to coach, correct?  Butt said earlier that he's not around players, but this reporter needs to make double-sure, just in case we can catch a violation in there somewhere.

Another entertaining pre-match read

If I recall correctly

The "source" is some kid who claimed his uncle was Harbaugh's agent during the coaching search (or some such nonsense), and now he's claiming to have some kind of family relation to Nauta's cousin's fiance.

Clock Management Coach then?

Better than a 15 year old Madden enthusiast.

Ong Bak - the Thai Warrior

Not karate, but I'm assuming OP is looking for martial arts in general. I highly recommend this one. It's in Netflix, too.

Great for high profile guys

It makes complete sense for guys like Smith to do this, but it does nothing for the average recruit. In fact, if this is a trend, it may hurt the low 3-star type guys. If Smith chooses somewhere that has room for him, great for everybody. But say he were to choose Tennessee in April, would one of UTs 3-stars no longer have a spot? And instead of knowing that in February, they're now a month before school starts, and options are largely gone, not to mention they've signed their NLI. For Roquan Smith it's the difference of having a different coordinator or position coach; for the kid whose spot he takes, it may be the difference between having a power-5 scholarship or not.

I'm not suggesting Smith should do something different; he should make sure he ends up in the right place for him. I'm just saying that until the NLI is binding on schools, this does nothing to help student athletes who are not in the most elite category, and may actually hurt more than it helps.

I cannot possibly recommend this link highly enough!

I clicked the link and was met by a bunch of 1-star reviews that read basically as expected. Out if curiosity, I filtered by 5-star reviews to see who could possibly have enjoyed the book. The 5-star reviews are way more entertaining. Literally spit out my coffee. I was just imagining Rosenberg sitting down to check reviews and thinking, "see, somebody loves the book... Wait... What?"

Eeeeeeeee!!!!!

HARBAUGH!!!!!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

This will be on constant replay in my head! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

WR3 non-PPR

Keenan Allen, Kelvin Benjamin, or Roddy White?

Hold on...

You're arguing that what works at a reasonable rate against Auburn and Alabama won't work against MSU and OSU?

I can't get past the haircut fit for a 3-year old

For someone with that much money, that haircut truly looks like a sign of mental illness or a developmental disorder.

I'm entirely serious and not attempting to make light of mental illness.

Why bother having a team...

If you're not even going to compete. If Webb is right, I envision the discussion in the coaching search war room sounding like this:

I do say, this Les Miles disturbs my genteel sensibilities, what say you chap?

Hear, hear... And while we're at it, I find the spread to be unsporting. One should not resort to such trickery in a gentlemanly contest.

I agree in earnest. In fact, I find any attempt to score more points than the opponent to be unbecoming. Perhaps we could just assign additional tutors in lieu of a coaching staff.

This my childhood too

Football all day, sardines and Ghost in the Graveyard at night. Sardines got even better when girls stopped being icky.

That goes beyond what I had heard as Miles's issues

I knew there were some overly-light punishments for legal issues, and I'm familiar with the over-signing. Both of these seem like they could be solved by AD oversight. I don't give a damn about negative recruiting. None of these put him on a blacklist for me. Behind other elite coaches, sure. Behind average to good coaches, no way!

If you have some solid indication that he covered up crimes, paid players, or encouraged/covered up PED use, I would change my tune, but that's not what I've generally heard him accused of.

I figure Miles to be about as slimy as he can get away with under the rules. Set a different set of rules and see how it goes. Given the choice of Miles vs. Stoops or Briles, and I'm on board with the latter, no question. But I think Miles is in the very, very top tier of coaches in the country, so unless there's some serious smoke around the more serious allegations, I'd rather Miles over almost anyone being listed as "plausible."

Why bother firing Hoke then?

If you're willing to settle for Addazio or Schiano, why not just keep the nice guy who graduates players.

Just tell Miles that the over-signing and cutting players is unacceptable and that the AD will be paying attention.

I can say this comfortably, if they hire a low-performing coach, it will be one misstep too many. I will lose all emotional investment in this team. Why should I care if they win or lose when the Athletic Department doesn't care?

Sure call the super long shot guys

I have no problem with calling Kelly and Bellichek, too... Swing for the fences, but Miles should be the floor. That's a pretty damn high floor.

If he's not the floor, I'm afraid that we're not just looking for the best available coach, but trying to appease hurt feelings in the old guard.

B-List

I think we have near unanimity that Harbaugh is options1-4. I'd put Stoops clearly at option 5 if there really is some possibility. I'm assuming guys like Saban, Malzahn, Patterson, Briles are unavailable.

We can debate where Mullen, Whittingham, Mora Jr., and Graham stand on people's lists, but here's where my concern about the search comes in... If Miles "would accept if offered," as we're hearing (and I trust Brian on that fact), why is there a B-list that includes Addazio and Schiano?

To me Miles is right behind Stoops, but I can understand taking a hard look at Mullen or Mora. I even understand building a very comprehensive list. I just can't conceive of a scenario in which you KNOW Miles wants the job and even bother to put anyone past, say, Graham into your evaluation.

Fellow alum here...

Give your wife a "Roll Wave!" for me. A backup option for you if Cooter Browns is too packed is Bruno's on Maple. It's a solid sports bar near Tulane. I watched this year's UM-ND game there, but I'd still go back.

Disagree on Muschamp

Living in Austin, I can tell you that Florida taking Muschamp was heartbreaking for UT fans. He was widely regarded as HC-in-waiting at UT. I'd classify that hire as Strong.

+1

+all the 1s

Agreed

In case of Devin's absence, I want Shane to look great. Right now, though, I'd rather have Gardner look great in this game, and have Shane look great in the second half with UM already up 49.

Not a problem

I can avoid them. I don't think I can stay off the blog.

Notsureifserious.gif

But this would make message boards unbearable. Shane Morris looks good against a division III team and all of the bench-Gardner types get riled up.

Suppose I should give more...

Vision and leg churn win the day. Green made some really odd reads. Smith did not. Green went down on first contact a couple times. Smith did not.

Smith

And not close.

Just here to say...

WEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

With Oden's injury track record

I did some math and figure 10 games is about 3 seasons' worth for Oden.
