It's back! Thursday night open thread! A lot of good games on tonight!
The SEC slurp fest is on!
Impressive start for the Aggies
I always root for the underdog, when it comes to SEC playing SEC. I want them to all knock each other out of the playoff!
But then it will be "but look at that strength of schedule! Toughest conference evar!"
If A&M ever finds a defense look out.
They do realize manziel isn't playing tonight right? Jesus let it go he isn't playing
I understand the feeling of 'stop talking about him', but I also remember how nice it was to hear announcers talk about Denard for every game for two seasons after he graduated.
At a restaurant and espn has some otl looking deal on.
Kenny Hill is very impressive so far.
Oh well, didn't see it was changed to an open thread.
We'll keep it under 25 promise.
Only 30 minutes till I can change this slurp fest off, and turn it to BTN.
That's a seriously intense sun angle they are playing in. What a weird time for a game.
Probably in the minority here but I love these big time conference openers. Or maybe because it's actually a very good matchup and not another Va. tech v's Louisiana Methodist Tech State snoozer.
I wish the Big Ten would play conference games early! Leave the cupcakes for November, like the SEC does. Then you heal up and recover from early season defeats.
Sparty week 1 please
That's part of the reason I love the ND rivalry so much. It's a great early season gauge of where the team is at. The games are almost always close and it's better than playing a terrible team four weeks in a row.
It actually isn't though. Obviously we've spanked them lately and then fallen apart down the stretch, but even historically this game hasn't been an indicator of the season's success.
The series is nice but I think over the last seven or eight years we've definitely proved that the game doesn't mean much in the grand scheme if the season. We've beaten them plenty these last 10 years or so but the program hasn't exactly been a powerhouse.
Yes though playing ND is better than playing Baby Seal U even if it is not the greatest indicator of how our season will progress.
Edit: nicely said Wichita.
Jessie Palmer must get $1 every time he say Johnny Football.
I was so bitter about not being able to watch this game until I did a program search, found SEC Network and realized that I have the channel.
Still don't have Pac-12 Network or the Fox College Sports networks, though. I wish I could choose what I want on my cable package.
SEC network not in HD on Time Warner apparently...what's the point of having a network?
...should be near BTN.
B1G is 1333 for me, I've got all the soccer channels and YES network, can't find the SEC...frustrating...
I hate Time Warner. Can't wait to get AT&T when it's offered in my area.
What a pass
Great pass, while getting hit!
Now that is a hole to run through, god i miss that.
This town aint.. but probably is big enough for the two of us, Tex.
just referred to guys trying to make NFL rosters this weekend as "scrubs". What a dick
He don't want no scrubs.
Well, not really a storm anymore - actually, it was a really nice day.
When I get home, I plan to switch to something else, but for the time being, we're half-listening to the Minnesota / E. Illinois game as we wait for people to call in their findings in the field. It's not a bad slate for an opening Thursday really, and as I am off tomorrow, I have plenty of entertainment late into the night.
"It's easy to find a taller, 6' 5'' receiver down the field. He's basically a more athletic, faster tight end."
Let's hope our OL gels like A&M's
I can't stand that windbag. What's the name of the idiot along side him?
I think Jesse Palmer.
Jesse Palmer. Another ear dagger. Where's the next Keith Jackson when you need him?
Muss and Fuss still going strong
Doesn't the SEC network have a Beth Mowans?
Ouch. Blown coverage
The amount of sandstorm being played is just baffling. Pretty entertaining game otherwise though.
Espns involvement with the sec network is going to be nauseating
This is starting to remind me of the game last night. No one can cover worth a damn and it makes the offenses look amazing. Except since it's SEC it's good football!
A & M's offense very impressive. Their D, not so much.
possession of the half, shortly after I tuned in.
Good god Minnesota, the are bad.
Blown coverge is one thing but there has already been a ton of bad tackling.
COME ON Minnesota! You're supposed to be better than this... Rutgers doesn't need company at 0-1 this week!
SEC "defense" huh?
5-10 years ago, all we heard was that the SEC had by far the best defenses in the nation. No offense could score off those guys. It's not that their QBs sucked.
Now, they all have the greatest offenses ever. No D could ever expect to stop them. 24 pts already by A&M in the first half w/o johnny football. I'm just shaking my head.
South Carolina's defense was the big question wasn't it? Lost pretty much their entire DL and both corners. The offense looks good but the defense isn't putting much pressure on them.
Well until non-SEC teams (read: the Big Ten) can beat the SEC consistently in OOC games they are going to keep getting hyped and we will continue to be nauseated.
This is why I want all Big Ten teams to do well out of conference. The SEC is what makes me the most sick. They so shady practices and then get on top. Just terrible and I want the Big Ten to be premier again like it is in basketball.
Minnesota score please.
A&M 24 S. Carolina 14 7 minutes left in half.
It's ugly. No score
The Texas A&M offense is fun to watch.
Who replaced 2013 Jerry Kill with 2008 Rich Rodriguez?
They have about 13 yards of offense in their first two drives.
AM will always have a great offense, but their defense....
They looked better but two blown coverages cancled out a lot of good things they did.
South Carolina receiver pushed off defender but defender gets PI call. Wrong.
Sad to see so many empty seats at Minn I heard the stadium is nice.
And I thought that I had read somewhere that student tickets sold out really quick, I wonder why general seating is lacking so far behind?
These PI calls are pretty suspect
what the hell is the guy supposed to do, he ran step for step with the WR and got pushed off on and yet the penalty is on him?
Rules of today really suck in many ways
Spurrier is benching that dude ASAP
Does Spurrier even lift, bro?!
A&M has over 300 yrds and will get another possession in 1st half. Wow.
Happy to see espn goal line up and running for the first time in months
That a way Gophers!!!
Kenny Hill looks like an excellent QB - very poised as a sophomore to go into this arena and do well. But the SEC dont play defense outside of Bama and LSU it seems.
Florida does, they just don't play offense.
I just saw the AM center identifying the MIKE they have no chance
Why is Wakeforest playing at UL-Monroe?
10-10 start of 4th qtr
is so impressive looking, Sumlin is recruiting like a monster, they look so well coached and talented on the road in the SEC.
South Carolina crowd is stunned.
Uh oh MSU, looks like they are being very strict with the PI calls this year!
If Texas had gone to the SEC they would be playing in this game
The A&M game is error free except for PI.
Now 31-14. Nearing halftime.
Johnny who ?
Sorry to thread jack, but I am too lazy to start a new thread. Here his a new commercial with Woodson representing. http://youtu.be/z1f2U2HpGDQ
Old friend Thomas Rawls with 17yds on 3 carries for CMU in 1st Quarter. Central is a good fit for Rawls because Dan Enos prefers to limit the offense to the middle 1/3 of the field.
Ok South Carolina time to re-group for 2015-16. This season is done.
Thank god the gophers finally scored. Hope they keep going. I don't want to see another B1G team losing to FCS in game 1...
I am sure I am in the minority here but I don't really care what the rest of the conference does. If Michigan could win every game while every other BIG team loses every game I would be happy. Some might think this is stupid but I just want my team to win don't care about the conference's status.
It's not stupid. But with the playoff the B1G really needs to be seen as a good/great conference.
It's not stupid. But with the playoff the B1G really needs to be seen as a good/great conference.
but if your conference is terrible then winning every game doesn't mean a whole lot. Ask Boise State. If you want national relevance, you have to play in a good conference. Of course, with the addition of Maryland and Rutgers, the B1G didn't exactly help its case.
Oh I get it and know it is probably counter to what is best for us I just hate having to favor (I won't say cheer) for Wisconsin Iowa Sparty and OSU.
There we go Gophers!
SEC game is like a track meet; Minnesota game is like ...well HS football.
Listen I hope it doesn't come to it but if Michigan is looking for a new coach in the near future I'll take A&M's Sumlin any day. Also he looks like Rick Mahorn.
Their defense was 109th in the country last year. He needs a DC to go along with that offense.
I totally had this deja vu feeling when you said that...
Sumlin isn't going anywhere.
Their OL doesn't get much of a push, Leidner is a below average passer, and they don't appear to have much speed at WR.
They have Big 10 speed everywhere.
What a big hit on a wide open TD pass !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Incomplete
You know...I should be watching A&M/SC for entertainment factor, but yet here I am going all #B1G and watching Minnesota. damn shame
I just can't stand the SEC love all game long.
did that ref just confuse himself?
Anyone know of the experience level (SO/JR/SR) of the A&M starting OL?
LT: Cedric Ogbuehi, Sr.
LG: Jarvis Harrison, Sr.
C: Mike Matthews, Jr.
RG: Joseph Cheek, Jr.
RT: Germain Ifedi, Soph.
Damn what a hit. Fair catch the ball son!
Spurrier refreshing interview.
Love Spurrier, "they are kicking out butts"
You can hear a pin drop in the Wake vs UL-M game. Must be 100 people there.
Several of the series in this Minnesota game so far - especially between the second Eastern Illinois turnover and Minnesota's need to get to 3rd and goal before running it in successfully - have been exquisitely Big Ten. It is nice to have this back really.
Mitch Leidner getting a chance to show off that arm too - 1 for 4 and a grand total of 2 yards in the air right now.
NIU uniforms are wretched
Wow Leidner.....short armed that one badly.
I have no clue, how he is a starting QB in a Div 1 program.
That was some man ball!!!
and again...wow Leidner. not even close
Too bad Leach's ingenuity came with the stupidity often seen accompanying it.
Aggies might still lose by twenty.
Just looked at Eastern Ill record from last year - they beat SDSU 40-19 in San Diego. Only loss in regular season was to Northen Illinois who rocked Purdue last year. Surpised this line was 14 unless Eastern Ill lost its QB.
Jimmy Garoppolo. 2nd Round pick to the Pats
Got it - that explains it!
Their former coach is at BG now.
Empty Seats-I see you!
Still no tv and there's football on; I can't guarantee I won't stream you a virus.
Long removed from the Lefevour glory days is CMU now
A rather short WR for Idaho St. just made an amazing catch in the back of the endzone. Game tied 7-7 early. Utah plays at Michigan in 2 weeks.
LaQuan Treadwell is an Impact Player. First catch made just now, too. Neat.
WEAK late hit call against Boise
Akron up 21-0 1st quarter. Glad they are off our schedule
CMU losing to the UT-Chattanooga Mocs. 10-0. At home.
Have you guys seen what Brian Cole is doing on twitter? He's scored every TD for his team. 21-0.
I live up in saginaw.....watched him last year. When they say it is a one man team they are not joking. What he does with no help is amazing.
Want a big win for Boise State.
pick from the up receiver of Boise. MSU runs that shit too and they NEVER get flagged.
Who is A&M's OL coach? Since Sumlin's been there, their lines have been superb.
Williams just biffed that block like a champ and TAMU took the sack, possibly killing this drive
Edit: And he redeems himself with the 20 yd draw on 3rd down and long
A&M already back down inside the 10 yard line of SC. Kenny Hill becomes early leader for Heisman.
And Hill throws another TD. Nice to have all day to pass. Nice OL.
CMU now losing 16-0 to UT-Chattanooga.
I be like dang.
Nice D SEC.
This Hill guy is making Manziel look like a choad.
You said choad.
Offensive explosion in Minneapolis.
Cocks getting donkey punched...wait...yup that's what I going with
Minny finally waking up! 14-0
I giddily await Gamecock schadenfreude. Oh how much I have missed overreactions from fanbases other than this one.
Boise State with some life! I like it!
and the only rankings I can find lists Idaho State at preseason #97 of 125 in FCS i.e. a bad FCS team. Bodes well for our game with them
Then again, MSU struggled with USF last year
Ole Miss is becoming one of my favorite teams to root against. A big Nelson HA HA on that INT and Boise State's two straight completions. Nice QB Oh Noes, sort of, on that last one.
lol at lolcocks. South Carolina's defense is assy.
Didn't realize targeting means automatic ejection. Harsh penalty but in this case it was obvious.
in slo mo.
jeez...do all SEC fans wear polos to the games? Good lord
At Mich v Bama game, every single male fan had a maroon polo and khaki shorts on.
And constantly yelled "roll damn tide". The only descent ones we found were the ones behind Denny's who we shared a tall boy with at about 3:30 am
CC Bellis 3-3 games 1st set (tennis 15 yr old American)
Ha this is a solid gif.
Would be great to see Boise take down a ranked team from the SEC
My wife is a So Car alum and is having me DVR the game, do I spoil it for her so I can watch other games tonight and not have to watch this drubbing?
Let's go Demon Deacons - up 10-nil on ULM lol
Well shucks Boise...
we will be playing on this night at Utah, I'm thinking about going to that game, would be a fun road trip
Some very poor decision making for Boise at the goal line. I think they could surprise some people if they ever get their heads of of their asses.
Holy crap South Carolina is bad this year. How much do you wanna bet they are still ranked Monday, though, because SEC.
Hooray for being within 17 points?
man....certain teams in the B1G are in trouble with PI if called like it has been in the A&M game right now. Turns our they are not going to let you maul WR's all the way down the field.
3rd and 21 and they left him wiiiiide open. And Ole Miss converts fourth down.
South Carolina might drop from 9th to 11th next week based on his blowout. A&M will go to #3.
Really iffy penalty on Boise there. Cheap calls.
I think he bumped the ref, and come on why do that by the ref?
Treadwell seems like kind of a douche.
Kenny Hill was 4th overall QB in Rivals so at least it makes sense.
Ole Miss gets personal fouls like SEC teams.
A&M might score 60 against the Gamecocks.
South Carolina has had good defenses lately so I'm not sure how to take this, but Kenny Hill looks like a 5th Yr Senior out there right now. They are just carving up Carolina's D
There's still the post-game presser with the Old Ball Coach. It should be entertaining.
South Carolina's defense is really bad.
When you score 45 points in less than 3 quarters I think it's a little of both.
Sec = no D! Woohoo
When we beat Appy State will we be ranked ahead of South Carolina?
Good run for the first down, no more like bad D.
I sure as hell hope South Carolina plays like this next week when they play my Pirates. They should have their hands full.
So much for SEC defenses
Utah 28, Idaho St 7.
Idaho St lost 56-0 to Washington last year, and 30-13 to an awful Cal.
Boise was in control of this game and the momentum has fully shifted
Looks like it's gonna be that kind of night for Boise. At worst they deserve to be tied right now. Oh, well. SEC hype here we come.
Wow this Boise-Ole Miss game is sloppy.
punt block..... TD!
Somewhere Frank Beamer is nodding and saying "Gopher-ball".
Rawls having a nice game for CMU.
Ole Miss was in the neutral zone on that 3rd down play--no flag.
The dude's entire helmet was across the line.
Lorenzo Ward was probably lying. Badly
Thomas Rawls TD run for CMU.
with the worst pooch punt ever
A&M now up 52-28 over South Carolina with 12 minutes to go.
Treadwell caught that big gainer. The very next play he stood at the LOS and watched his running back break through the pack only to get tackled by the CB LT was supposed to block.
I have yanked kids out of games for that kind of effort. Total me-teamer. Shameful.
That was... better than I expected.
(far from over. If scar comes back I'll live in a hole here for a year or two).
Safe to say this is the end of BSU.....nice run they had however.
I agree that this Boise team is not on the same level as previous incarnations, but what exactly have they done tonight to show you that this is the end? They are hanging with a ranked SEC team in a neutral site game. I don't think they are going the way of Purdue.
I love SEC on SEC crime.
It's an interception-fest!!!
This game can't get any sloppier.
Real clean game going on over on ESPN. Not sure Ole Miss is that good, guys.
That's suprising, with as much money as they spent to build that team.
I swear every year someone is saying "Look out for Ole Miss. This is the year they finally break out"
Then the just win 5-8 games again like they've done every year in the past and like they will do every year forever.
BSU/OleMiss is a crap fest. Just run the ball as throwing seems to be a problem right now.
A fumble snap on their own five, missed field goal, a blocked punt, and now a fumble in the red zone.
they are wearing orange. thought i was watching syracuse. wonder if they are going to change the color of their home turf.
i love big his, but if ever there was a head target. shot, that was it.
If I were A&M and up by 24 with 8 minutes to go I might pull my star QB.
Jessie Palmer just said SEC teams don't do that. They get recruited to play in their systems and not come out early even when they're up big. Then he said, "When I was at Florida and we were up 60 in the 4th quarter, we never pulled our starters and I always stayed in."
Blah, blah, blah, SEC greatest ever in the history of the universe, blah, blah, blah.
He was saying when he was Freshman...he'd come off the bench behind the starter and he'd still get a chance to throw the ball. Spurrier believed he recruited guys for his system and when they got in the game, they should run his system, not get under center and run the ball and run the clock out.
TAMU could've put a back up in and still run their offense and that's what Palmer was saying.
I have no problem with continuing to run your offense until you get under 2 minutes. But you should put the backups in.
Jebus Crist Ole Miss with some monster hits.
I make big money. I make big hits. Everybody know why. I go to ole miss.
Does anybody here not hate Ole Miss?
I don't hate them, but I want them to lose. Na mean?
What's with Boise's uniform? There's barely any blue on it.
They're going to change their home field to orange too.
Just noticed Boise State and Ole Miss have both thrown 3 INTs in the first half. Impressive
Minnesota is for realz, yo. I wouldn't be surprised to see them win the Legends division. I mean the North, no wait, is it the Leaders division? The West, yes it's the West.
I hope ppl who like to trash Gardner are watching this Miss. QB and appreciate what we got
RCMB: We'd beat South Carolina by 30 and hold A&M to 10 with our defense. We got jipped last year.
Nobody cares about them. You shouldn't either.
Should be quite the post game press conference from Spurrier.
EIU's incompetence is the story of this game.
Kenny Hill threw for 511 yards for South Carolina. Christ.
He's the Zook of qbs
Obviously meant against South Carolina...
hit the guy in the nuts, what a shit move. Glad they kicked him out of the game.
I missed that...
Gophers guy got punched in the nuts after the play.
Wait, don't they get 5 personal fouls in college???
Ahhh, piss. That's right...sorry, I get confused now that M is a basketball school.
...made me JEALOUS!
I want to watch some MICHIGAN FOOTBALL!!!
Rutgers vs Wazzu on FS1.
Rutgers sporting a B1G patch just angers me.
Didn't see any of the aTm South Carolina game, but this was my reaction when I saw the final score
is just no way with their schedule.
Plus their safety play was awful.
There's also no way Hill is that legit, sleeping in a planters, or not.
That said, if Michigan pulls off a great year and the two teams meet, I hope we beat the aggies silly.
Their only real bad loss last year was to us, 42-13. Wisconsin beat them by 13 and MSU beat them by 11 in East Lansing. I expect to see them in the top 4/7 of the west division. They finish the year at Neb and at Wis, so winning the division is probably not going to happen, but they could go 5-3 if they can upset the buckeyes in Minny.
I can't remember where (I think ESPN blog) but one of the "bold predictions" for the Big Ten season was that Minnesota beats us to get the jug back. Boo to that.
Their defense look good today, but EIU was utterly incompetent offensively. Turnovers, penalities...just ugly all around play by EIU.
After watching the USC A&M game it makes me wish we had an sec defense..
The Aggies didn't look a ton better, either.
I can't wait to read all the comments about Rutgers, just to hear the community's thoughts.
That's the thing I'm least looking forward to about tonight. I'm not pumped about Rutgers being added, but it happened and there is nothing we can do about it. I fully expect a lot of complaining, though, about both Rutgers and Maryland and it has gotten really annoying over the past year. They are playing a decent Pac12 team on the road tonight. We should be rooting for them to do well and realize that half the teams in our conference would fall flat on their faces playing a west coast game.
I just want to see actual opinions on them instead of "Rutgers sucks/shouldn't be here" whenever they're brought up. In the preview they did for all the teams earlier on the board they didn't even bother.
Now that Northwestern is in a different football conference, I appreciate that Rutgers (and Maryland) will be able to provide Michigan with a continuing home-game-away-from-home
I think I will watch the rutgers vs Washington St game and root for them to get kicked out of the Big Ten.
So, I believe the question before us this evening, MGoCOmmunity, is this - would Steve Spurrier eat his visor flame-broiled or sauteed, or perhaps Memphis-style BBQ? I think this is an important question to have answered before the presser.
Incidentally, the final damage - South Carolina gave up 680 yards over 99 plays, or 6.87 yards allowed per play on average. Kenny Hill was 44-for-60 with 511 yards passing.
I'm not even sure that's a good thing.
It just seems abnormal.
Braylon's little bro with a 12 yard and a TD! Good for him!!!
First career td for Chelsea Bulldog Berkley Edwars! Congrats to him!
There is so many open seats at the Rutgers WSU game, unreal.
Well that was pure stupidity ESP in this rock fight game where all the points matter
Anyone have a link to a live stream of the Rutgers game? Thanks!
Stream wasn't going when I originally posted. It is up now though:
EDIT: This one seems to be higher quality:
ESPECIALLY for college hockey. This has gotten me to see many a Michigan hockey game on FS Atlantic, North, etc.
Apparently not so easy for Washington State to attract fans to Seattle.
Come on Rutgers make us proud against the Pac 10 (Pac 12 or whatever they are called).
Rutgers TD on first play from scrimmage. YES.
Wow Rutgers. Ok.
Crazy fast TD from Rutgers.
Rutgers scores lol 78 yard pass watch out big
I wouldn't say watch out just yet. WSU lost their entire starting secondary from last year I believe.
I understand the decision to punt on fourth down, it was the smart decision, but man I wanted Boise to go for it.
I don't have a problem with the punt, but I don't know how you call that 3rd down play unless you go for it on 4th.
Rutgers interception. Keep it up.
Is it crazy to say Rutgers might have just as many fans at that game as WSU...it wouldn't take that many. I know not likely but no one is there
However, I am in the UP and don't get the SEC Network (this not necessarily a negative)
Braylon's little bro, killin it tonight!!!!
Maybe Rutgers wins this thing convinvingly. If their converted corner can get a pick that easily the defense might be pretty set.
Berkley Edwards scores again on a nice run
Some good genes in that Edwards family, hey.
Is the coach at WSU the same one that locked a kid in the closet at TT?
CJK5H... Swing your sword -Mike Leach
Boise pulls to within 1. A safety now takes the lead for them, and in that game I wouldn't rule it out.
If South Carolina doesn't drop out of the top 25 after that loss the polls are a complete and biased joke.
Hah! They'll be top 20, I've no doubt. I'm right there with you though.
Because that's the evidence you've been waiting for?
Before this game Treadwell said about the Boise St. Recievers: "Small, we should have a good day". Hmm.
And right there, Treadwell is pushing off ever so slightly, yet when a DB does it it's a flag.
No way to defend that pass if it's thrown right. Especially when you are throwing to a guy like Treadwell
You know, I was a little disappointed when the Air Raid was being stunted a bit and the 4th down play didn't quite make it, but Gary Nova made it all better somehow by throwing it right back. We can only assume he felt bad about the situation and wanted to give WSU another shot at this, so it's a shame that they might squander it.
Can't help to think how Laquoun Treadwell would look in a michigan uniform
I'm thinking he'd look a little green.
Especially what it woulda looked liked lined up next to Funchess and Butt and Norfleet? Stacked!
Rutgers D holding VERY strong in the red zone
That's a pretty fancy undershirt by that Rutgers defender. Very shiny padding.
Maybe I shouldn't be, but I'm really surprised that it seems like the Georgia Dome is half full. I know Boise won't travel very well, especially considering they don't have much momentum now that Petersen is gone, but I thought Ole Miss would pack the place.
Ole miss traveling well.. You serious, Clark? I've lived in sec country now for 5 years and have yet to meet an Ole Miss fan.
