Since we are discussing injuries to future opponents, here are a couple for next weeks opponent.

I was watching this game and saw Grant go down when King stepped on his lower leg.  He was about 95% of Rutgers Offense before getting hurt.  This is a major loss for them.  He appeared to be wearing a soft cast on the sideline in the second half.

According to the article Quanzell Lambert, who was named the best defensive lineman by the coaches last year, is also out for the season. I didnt notice him go down, and am not sure how big of a loss that will be for them.

They were boh Seniors and, like Clark, are likely not elligible for a medical redshirt.

Grant was the one exciting thing about Rutgers football.  Hope he can bounce back and either get another year, or be ready for a combine.  Too much talent to not have a future in football.

that everything that has happened to Michigan has happened early enough in the season to get everyone back in time to make the push toward the B1G Championship! Yeah, it's a bummer about all this stuff happening to other teams, but, it is what it is. Nobody feels sorry for Michigan when our best players are injured. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, hasn't MSU been fairly healthy over the last 8 years.....? I mean, I can't recall a time in which they had serious injuries that prevented them from winning games...? Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought one of the biggest factors in them always being so dominant the past 3-4 years was their ability to stay healthy.

I like your optimism, but early injuries don't preclude us from more injuries later... we most certainly will have more. Its football, everyone takes injuries.

Also, I think MSU had pretty significant injuries on their O-line last year (or maybe two years ago) but at any rate, everyone gets injuries. I think the biggest factor in them being dominant is playing good football.

EDIT: while I stand by the above statements, reading them makes me sound like a real downer. Feel free to neg...

Another bummer for the kid. He's a good player.

I'd say fuck Rutgers, but they are so pathetic that being magnanimous is in order.

Generally I oppose red-shirt-burning, but injuries are a big argument for having as many guys (dudes, if possible) available with in-game experience who are ready to step up and contribute.  Harbaugh's play-everyone-who-can-contribute approach, combined with his ability to recruit players ready to contribute early in their careers, seems like a significant long-term positive for the program. Bottom line: you've gotta be able to pick up and keep winning, even if key players go down to injury.

Another facet to this is when guys go down to season-ending injuries after already taking a redshirt year, it's a wasted year anyway. Look at Mone last year as an example. He wasn't going to be healthy enough to contribute, but since he played his first year instead of redshirting, he was able to redshirt last year, plus he got the benefit of that first year playing time. Maybe you're able to get a sixth year, but that's a longshot and for better players, would they even stick around for that long?

Better to start getting them experience early (assuming they're ready) and have the redshirt year in your back pocket if the injury bug does happen to unfortunately strike...

very interesting to say the least.

He had just ripped off a 76 yard catch and run to give Rutgers first and goal at the 3, when he was injured.  The score was 0-0 just before the half.  They couldn't punch it in after 3 downs, and rather than kick the FG to go up 3-0, Ash eleceted to go for it and they failed.  Iowa then drove 99 yards for TD to go into halftime with a 7-0 lead.

Man, football is a dangerous game.  Just about every single team is 100% guaranteed to have a season-ending injury to a key player.  I don't think there is any other sport like that.
