How this loss can be turned into a POSITIVE
First of all despite everything, Rich Rod deserves a fourth year. Because otherwise the suffering will have been for naught. The fourth year should bring the most progress, with a NEW DC, who coaches his own defensive scheme not this 3-3-5 bullshit. Also the defensive side needs to be purged.
There's my rant......now on how this can be a POSITIVE. In TomVH's post Crawford said he would still come here with the allure of early playing time.....if we can get some more defensive recruits based on this allure then it wasn't a total loss. The recruits can see how horrible our defense is.
WIth another year of these young defensive players growing up, with JT Floyd, and Troy Woolfork back, with a new chest bumping DC, combined with another year of Barwis .....the defense next year could be this years Denard.....showing IMMENSE improvement. And of course only if Rich Rod stays, or our program could take several steps back with even more rebuilding in store ....ughhh
That is all I can hope....Now only post if you have something POSITIVE to add

Come to Michigan, our defense sucks and you will get to play early. Not what I envisioned three years ago. I have tried to view this as a positive and it has left my left eye twitching.

You forgot to add a picture of playful kittens to your post!
January 1st, 2011 at 7:28 PM ^
But is that what we're doing now reaching out to make this a positive? Good luck, hope it actually works but yeah....
January 1st, 2011 at 7:28 PM ^
You are fired.
January 1st, 2011 at 7:29 PM ^
That we will have a new DC next year. And about 80/20 that we have a totally new coaching staff next year.
<br>Is that positive enough?

I mean this is stats 101
January 1st, 2011 at 7:30 PM ^
Let me get this right. Our offense once again failed despite having everyone healthy; the defense performed as we have come to expect despite having six weeks to prepare; and the special teams were terrible. The only positive is that we don't have to watch this garbage again for eight months.
By the way, has anyone noticed how the TCU defense is holding up very nicely against the Wiscy O line despite being outweighed by fifty pounds per man in the trenches. It's a matter of talent and coaching and we don't have either right now.
I have been a supporter for the entire time but I think I've seen enough.

I see you also support hitting the tab key before you start another paragraph.

This should have been a post in the Crawford thread.
January 1st, 2011 at 7:37 PM ^
Second thought it should be, mods delete if need be. I'm just trying to stay positive, and for some reason I hate seeing the amount of pain Rich Rod has to endure on a daily basis. The man is under so much pressure, yet he's still a class act.

No matter what happens, that's the one thing that I hope the fanbase doesn't forget.

Dude, what about the pain Michigan has to endure getting blown out in every big game this year? I am so sick of people worrying about Rich Rods feelings.

This is desperate and sad.
January 1st, 2011 at 7:33 PM ^
Gardner didn't play and possibly lose his medical redshirt, Denard played the whole game, and it was the last game from GERG. That's the most positive I can get right now.
January 1st, 2011 at 7:33 PM ^
And how long does this cycle of we'll be better next year continue? We wrote off 2008 but no one expected 3-9. Then we said 2009 would be better. 5-7 and a complete failure in the Big Ten resulted. The we said 2010 would be better. 7-6 but the defence regressed badly from last year, and through the year. At some point, you have to cut your losses.
I like RR as a person and as a coach, but some times things just don't work out. I honestly don't care at this point about who coaches next year, and doesn't bode well for RR. That state of ennui is not good for a fanbase and when it exists, you need to make a change.
Will bringing in a new coach mean rebuilding again? Yes, but I don't think RR can do anything to redeem himself with the fanbase no matter how long he stays at this point. Better to cut him loose now and get the rebuild going as soon as possible.
January 1st, 2011 at 7:49 PM ^

Winning is all it takes. Fans are willing to let a lot slide if their team is playing well.

Are you one of those people that keeps on playing the slot machines for hours, "positive" that the next pull will pay off?
January 1st, 2011 at 7:45 PM ^
....comparing apples to oranges. Slot machines.....and the implementation of a new football scheme usually takes four years.
January 1st, 2011 at 7:34 PM ^
One thing is positive. Greg Robinson is gone. And the rest of the defensive staff should be gone as well. Inexcusable with that much time to prep and watch film, and work on fundamentals. Same mistakes, same defense.
January 1st, 2011 at 7:36 PM ^
Another positive: Rodriguez is gone.
January 1st, 2011 at 7:35 PM ^
I think what is gonna suck the worst is if Rodriguez is fired then Mike Barwis will go as well and those offensive linemen are going to look mighty out of shape because in all honesty I wouldn't be surprised if Jim Harbaugh had a Mike Gittleson prototype as his S&C coach.
Honestly, this post is pure sulky on my part. I don't even know WTF i'm talking about.
January 1st, 2011 at 7:43 PM ^
Ironically, Kevin Tolbert, Mike Gittleson's right hand man for 6 years earlier in the decade, is Stanford's S&C coach.

Good man. We could do worse.
January 1st, 2011 at 7:51 PM ^
Because MIKE BARWIS IS THE ONLY STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH THAT CAN LEAD MICHIGAN TO VICTORY. Any other strength and conditioning coach = certain doom.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. This board's obsession with an S&C coach is bizarre and creepy. Our team did pretty damn well under the previous, outdated, regime, and has been pretty crappy despite the Barwisizing. It's almost as if, gasp, the strength and conditioning coach is not one of the most important factors in determining a team's success!
January 1st, 2011 at 9:25 PM ^
+1 to you again for creepy.
We didnt look stronger or faster than MSU today.
While I dont know much about S & C, Alabama looked big and fast today for the 30 minutes I watched.

Are we talking about the same offensive linemen that were tossed around like rag dolls today? I really don't care if they eat pizza if they can control the line of scrimmage.

January 1st, 2011 at 7:36 PM ^
This is the only positive I can give right now. What was everyone predicting when Troy Woolfolk got injured during the offseason? I know I was thinkin another 5-7 season.
January 1st, 2011 at 7:37 PM ^
The lure of immediate playing time has been present since early in the season or even during last season. I imagine recruits probably want to be able to play immediately AND go to a school where you are confident that you will be able to grow and develop and improve your skills. The performance today maybe suggests that the second part of that won't hold true with the current staff.
January 1st, 2011 at 7:37 PM ^
Or the OSU game? Or the Wisconsin game? Forth year? Right. How we make this better? Two words - Jim Harbaugh.
January 1st, 2011 at 7:38 PM ^
That -1 was for not knowing how to spell fourth.
January 1st, 2011 at 7:53 PM ^
He was talking about the possibility of going forth with Rodriguez next year, duh.
