Another Northwestern Commit

Northwestern picked up commit #10 today, an OT with a solid offer list. 247 sports now ranks NW #3 in the B1G and #13 overall...or just one spot below OSU.

Don't count out the Cats!

Taylor Lewan...

In other news, Walter Football projects Taylor Lewan to go #13 in the 2014 draft, lol.

Walter football also has Denard going in the 6th round - last pick of the round to the Steelers. http://walterfootball.com/draft2013_6.php

Crawford pursued by Missouri and Marquette

According to Tribune writer Teddy Greenstein, Crawford is being heavily pursued by Missouri and Marquette.  My bet is that he stays with Northwestern though.

Too soon...

Too soon...

Next year is Northwestern's year

I know this is said pretty much every year...but I think northwestern will make the tourney next year. They have 7 freshman on the roster - arguably the best of which, Sanjay Lumpkin, has been hurt the whole year. Along with returning star player Drew Crawford next year, they will return another starter in JerShonn Cobb, who has been suspended for the season. Plus they are bringing in a top 100 recruit, which like never happens for Northwestern.

Thanks! I will always root for Michigan - unless they are playing NU of course!

That would be a dream come true.

I know Northwestern very

I know Northwestern very well. Both my parents went there, and I've visited dozens of times. I feel very comfortable with the school, and can't wait to be a Wilcat! I also plan on doing grad school at Michigan.

I'm going to Northwestern

I was accepted early decision to Northwestern on Thursday.  While I love Michigan, and will always be a huge Michigan fan, I feel that Northwestern is a better fit for me.

Still a good shot.

I'm a high school senior that was accepted yesterday! However, a bunch of my friends - including many of whom had similar resumes to me - were deffered.  Getting deffered, while it sucks, does not mean that she won't get in. Many students that got in early will opt not to attend (like myself...), which will open up plenty more spots.

For early action, they typically take the top crop of students. The ones that are boderline, or even slightly above borderline, get deffered, and pooled in with the regualr applicants. Then, they evaluate the rest of the applications, and see where they stack up. They are also looking to see how the student did first semester of his/her senior year.  If the student took hard classes and got good grades, then they have a very good chance of getting in. Deffered applicants should find out around February, and a large group of them will be accepted.  As long as your daughter does well in her first semester, while taking difficult classes, she should be accepted.  She still has a very good shot of ending up at Michigan.

Deffered is much better than waitlisted. I'd put odds of getting accepted once deffered at around 50%. Getting accepted once waitlisted is closer to 10%.

Funchess to WR?

With our very mediocre wide recieving corps, and a bevy of good TE's coming in, wouldn't it make sense to permanently move Funchess to WR? He is an iffy blocker, but is such a game changer out wide. He has the speed, catchng avbility, and body-type of a WR - it just seems like a logical move. Thoughts?

That sounds really promising.

That sounds really promising. Sounds like Miami made the cut because of effort - but they don't seem like they'll be a huge factor, and that coaching changes at Tennessee and Auburn (1 gone, 1 almost gone), would have a significant effect. It appears that Oregon is our biggest competition for Green, but it sounds like we have the edge.

No

No, I think Northwestern's main rival is Illinois.

Nate Goodwin

Nate Goddwin (Minnesota), from the state of Cornerback and plays the position of Florida.

But in all seriousness, thanks! I really appreciate these updates!

Isn't that just common

Isn't that just common ediquette?

Why didn't

Why didn't Hoke go for the endzone once before trying the fieldgoal when there were 7 seconds left on the clock? If Gibbons missed the first try, would he have gotten a second chance on 2nd down?

Out 3 More Weeks

According to my dad, who is a sports medicine doctor, an injury to the ulnar nerve require 6 weeks recovery. He still has 3-4 weeks to go until he's game ready. Should be back for the Rose Bowl!

I predict

We win big. Would anyone like to disagree? (If yes, you are a fool)

I'm not sure if it's an official or not, but just the fact that he's flying out from Florida means his interest must be present!

Woah.

I heard

I heard that Mattison lets the DEs rotate in and out of the game themselves.  He believes that a couple guys (Beyer, Black, Roh, Clark) are good enough to start, so he lets them all play equally.

I like the names

Devers?

Maybe I've been living under a rock, but who is Devers? Is he a 2014 kid/is there a legitimzate chance of him earning a scholarship?

I believe

It's a surprise until the ceremony. Wait an hour and a half and you'll find out.

Awesome

Just as we lose Devin Smith, we get a DeVeon Smith.

I'm still not remotely sold on Roundtree

He wasn't targetted until the last 5 minutes of the game. And he's supposed to be our #1 WR. It's looking like this year is going to be a repreat of his 19 reption season last year.  Gardner had a chance to bring a couple more receptions in. And the one he did catch - well, no one was within 10 yards of him. He sure looks the part, with his speed and height, but he proved nothing to me in this game. We'll get a better feel for the WRs once Denard learns(?) to throw the ball in their direction.

Why is that?

Gallon - looked the best of the bunch. He caught four passes. I believe 2 of those were bubble screens. So he caught 2 actual passes. No other wide reciever on the team did anything. Gardner caught a pass...after his CB fell down. Roundtree had 2 short ones in garbage time. Dileo had one impressive grad, but that's all he contributed. Jackson/Robinson were non-existent. The WRs looked really weak to me.

A ton of positives

1. We stayed injury free. No one of importance got hurt.

2. Denard looked pretty impressive - leaps and bounds better than last year.  And even when he got hurt or didn't play, the backups stepped up and performed quite adequetly.

3. Run game impressed. Even without Fitz, we were able to run all over the field.  I was really impressed by Rawls and Smith.

4. CBs - Played some lock down coverage all day.

5. Our offensive line gave Denard awesome time. And opened up massive holes for the RBs. And like 0 OL penalities - so that was pretty good.

6. Our front 7 was able to shut down those Alabama RBs.

Special Teams

Special Teams in general (Gibbons, Wile, Hagerup, Norfleet, all looked really good).

Errm. Kwiatkowski caught a pass. So maybe him.

That's soon

It's almost September.

If there is a captain for

If there is a captain for offense, defense, and speiclal teams...

Offense is obvious - Denard

Defense is obvious - Kovacs

Could special teams be...Floyd Simmons? He's a senior leader, and special teams stand out. I can't really think of another senior special teams player that would deserve it more. Don't think red shirts usually become captains, but maybe it could happen!
