Bill Stewart to resign following bowl
According to the Smoking Musket (WVU blog) Bill Stewart will resign after the Mountaineers' bowl game. I'd seen several reports throughout the day that hinted at this, but this is the first concrete statment about the situation.
Oklahoma St OC Dana Holgorsen is expected to replace Steward. Interestingly enough, Holgorsen had recently declined to seek the Pittsburgh opening.

I would love to have him, but didn't he want to stay in WV becuase it was where his whole family was?
I hope RR is already in contact with him and he decides to finally make his way to AA.
#3 total defense + #6 total offense = 2011 National Championship right?
December 13th, 2010 at 11:29 PM ^
Yeah, but he also still had a job there at the time. It may change if the new guy doesn't want him or he feels like he should have gotten the job. Oh please stars, please align.

I think you're correct that he wanted to stay due to family, however that was conditional on him having a job there. If he is not retained, he might not have a choice but to leave for another school.
EDIT: beat me to it due to my snail like internet connection

Is Rich Rod even in a position to make coaching changes right now, I wonder?
December 13th, 2010 at 11:13 PM ^
Is he in a position not to?
December 14th, 2010 at 4:43 AM ^
I'd say he's not in a position too, actually. Listen to the way he talks these days. He knows he's in limbo like everyone else.
December 14th, 2010 at 10:44 AM ^
And do you really think he'll be coaching next year or beyond without a few changes to the staff?

is it weird if 'rippling' gave me an oddly satisfying sensation? Kind of like 'cascading'...

wrong with Greg Robinson? What are you guys not telling me?
December 14th, 2010 at 10:44 AM ^
but you have to get past the hair. It's kind of like that saying: can't see the forest for the trees. You can't see the Gerg for the hair.
I have finally got past that beautiful hair and man....it ain't pretty. Sorry Gerg, still love the hair though!

they need to eat coal and hire Rich back if he is fired, and to sweetin the pot we will send Gerg w/him.

Does anyone have trouble believing a post from an online destination named "smokingmusket.com"? Perhaps we locate another source to back this up!
December 13th, 2010 at 11:05 PM ^
I get all my stock trading advice from sizzlingrifle.com, so I have no problem believing this.

I thought anyone posting photo's of hot naked chicks would end up in bolivian?
December 13th, 2010 at 11:16 PM ^
Is fired. Casteel will have to follow rr to his next destination imho
December 13th, 2010 at 11:21 PM ^
or maybe DB will fire RR and hire Casteel in his place!
/whatif!
December 13th, 2010 at 11:20 PM ^
When RR was hired, I remember telling the WVU trolls who invaded Mlive that RR would last longer at Michigan than soon-to-be-overwhelmed Stewie would at WVU. It looks like I at least got that right. Hopefully, the predictions that mentioned National Championships and a long career at Michigan for RR pan out, too.

WVU's bowl game is played four days before ours.

Some stats for ya...

Jeff Casteel came here. Of course, that's a no brainer.
December 13th, 2010 at 11:40 PM ^
Perhaps we should wait until this rumor gets mentioned by a website that doesn't need to post a hot chick picture in over 50% of its posts before we lend it any credibility?
December 13th, 2010 at 11:54 PM ^
that "The Smoking Musket" is not the credible WVU blog, and that instead we must turn to WeMustIgniteThisCouch.com for reliable Mountaineer news.
December 13th, 2010 at 11:58 PM ^
Based on recent history, your comment re: hot chick pictures could easily be applied to this e-blog's message board.

I liked that picture of Marissa Miller.

do we needs this Casteels whens wes gots zee Rich ROD!! Rich Rod 4ever, he is zee greatest, a defensive mastermind and greatest Michigan man of alls times.

Go back to pissing and moaning about getting snubbed by the BCS.
December 14th, 2010 at 12:53 AM ^
Michigan gots snubbed, shoelaces is zee bestest EVAR! and we should be in National Championships!!! We dont need needs no defenses wes gots DEENARD!!!
December 14th, 2010 at 1:10 AM ^
So just how shitty is your life that you're trolling on an opposing team's message board at midnight on a Monday? Since nobody who is a Michigan State fan didn't go there, I'll just assume that I made the right choice choosing Michigan over an agricultural college.
Enjoy the inferiority complex!

December 14th, 2010 at 1:18 AM ^
Maybe RR can go home again...would they take him back in Morgantown?
December 14th, 2010 at 1:18 AM ^
Casteel had already turned down the HC job at WV, or taken himself out of consideration...
Possible that this time of waiting is to give GERG his bowl game, and a respectful send-off...
Possible that this is already a done deal awaiting an early January signature...
OK, now you can start with all of the reasons it is possible I have my head up my @$$
December 14th, 2010 at 11:47 AM ^
Not much we can rule out right now, so your educated guess could be true....
December 14th, 2010 at 3:38 AM ^
that there will be a coaching change at WVU depending on the outcome of their bowl game (Link Below).
Would be great to see Casteel come to M, but it seems that his roots may be too well planted in Morgantown. Of course there will be a metric-ass-ton of speculation as to who ends up where, but I'm sure this will be a fun story to watch develop over the next month.

how RR, DB and co do this we NEED Jeff Casteel to make his way to AA and run his blitz heavy 3-3-5 defense. pretty much is exact opposite of GERG 3-3-5.
Come on Jeff you know you want to come to AA!
Hail

just saw on ESPN.com that Auburn gave Gus a big pay raise and he's staying put. A smart move on both parts. Vandy would be a job with a low ceiling.
December 14th, 2010 at 7:02 AM ^
There hasn't been a program yet in the conference with a DC with any real experience running it.
Using UM as a test case for whether the 3-3-5 will work is like going out on a date with Roseanne Barr and concluding that all females are overweight, ugly, and screechy.
December 14th, 2010 at 7:08 AM ^
Why the hell would their new coach not let Casteel keep his job as DC?
December 14th, 2010 at 7:44 AM ^
I think the OP stated that Ok St.'s current DC would take the WVU HC position. Its unlikely that he would keep around Casteel who I think runs a different defense then Ok St.
December 14th, 2010 at 10:46 AM ^
Okie State's defense is not good. WVU 's is consistently good. If Casteel wants to stay then the incoming offensive whiz HC would be a fool not to retain him.
