Randy Shannon for Defensive Coordinator
In the years he's been a DC his defense was ranked
- 2001- 6th
- 2002 - 7th
- 2003- 2nd
- 2004- 28th
- 2005- 4th
- 2006- 7th
And while his head coaching record sucked, the team had a high graduation rate and 1 arrest during his reign and he can recruit FL, particularly Miami, very well.
If RR can just give Shannon full reign over the defense and not force the 3-3-5 on him, this team could have a very good defense to go along with a great offense.

That's what I'm talking about!
November 27th, 2010 at 11:29 PM ^
So no GERG?
/s
I have no issue with this. Lord just give us somebody with a solid track record.
November 27th, 2010 at 11:30 PM ^
I am going to walk over to the freezer and do another shot of SoCo and see what happens next.
November 27th, 2010 at 11:38 PM ^
best comment all day.
November 28th, 2010 at 1:27 AM ^
I've been sippin on the SoCo all night man. Good shit.
November 27th, 2010 at 11:36 PM ^
Next year........
Head Coach: Jim Harbaugh
Defensive Coordinator: Randy Shannon
Book it!!!!!!!!!
November 27th, 2010 at 11:44 PM ^
I did say that RR would still be the coach...
He's obviously improved our offense and I'm a big supporter of his. But with Shannon's firing, I think he'd be a great hire.
Maybe this wasn't the best time to post this, but Great offense + (sooner or later) ~top 30 (edit:) defense should result in many Big Ten championships, BCS bowl games, and most importantly, NC games
November 28th, 2010 at 12:32 AM ^
but Harbaugh would bring Vic F with him as his DC. Unlike Coach Rod, when Stanford's D sucked last year, he cleaned house and let his new DC bring in some of his own guys....net result, 9 or 10th worst D in Pac10 last year is one of the top 3 this year.....so it CAN be done. You have to admire Coach Rod's loyalty to his assistants, but its obvious that they are not cutting it coaching the D. The apologists can chime in now about youth, injuries, etc...but let's face it, the D did not improve as the season progressed, they regressed.
I just got back from the Stanford/Ore State game and the can of whoop ass that Stanford opened up on that team was impressive. Their third shutout of the season. Any way you look at it, impressive.
BTW, those naysayers saying Harbaugh couldn't adapt to Shoelace, Tate or DG as QB are high...this is the same coach that used Tavita Pritchard as his QB to upset USC in the Coliseum. He adapted this year's O without Toby G. He plays a mix of power I, spread, west coast and shit i have never seen before to run an innovative offense based around the playmakers on the field. You would NOT see another regression to 3-9 or 4-8 with Harbaugh as coach. Any you would also not see an embarrassing special teams display like we saw today and all season with the current coaching staff. Even when Harbaugh didn't have the horses and his first 2 years, their special teams were respectable.
My ticket renewal and $5K Victor's Club donation sit on my desk until Brandon makes his decision.
November 28th, 2010 at 12:37 AM ^
I'll hold onto that $5K for you while you wait.
November 28th, 2010 at 12:42 AM ^
I agree that our current defensive staff should be fired because they made the defense historically bad and RR is loyal to a fault but idc if you're Nick Saban, no one in the country can have a good defense with a secondary consisting of 3 true freshmen, a first year starting CB that changed positions every year, and a walk-on that can't cover well, but plays "with grit, is like a coach on the field, and is quicker than fast."
btw, stop sucking Harbaugh's dick
November 28th, 2010 at 4:44 AM ^
Vince Lombardi couldn't have fixed this defense..am I right?
I'm pretty sure Penn State had 3 freshman starting in their secondary a few games last year. If you are really naive enough to beleive no coach in the country could have had these players play better then they did this year your a fucking lunatic...that is all
BTW, stop sucking RR's dick
November 28th, 2010 at 5:27 AM ^
Randy Shannon > Vince Lombardi
November 28th, 2010 at 11:15 AM ^
you forgot a redshirt freshman who changed positions during the season and a true freshman who lost time due to injury.
November 28th, 2010 at 1:12 AM ^
Love the FL connection and he was a good DC. Would rather have Trgovac or Heater, but would be ok with Shannon. And I will cover your $5k if it means we get to keep RR.
November 28th, 2010 at 11:44 AM ^
I can take on his seats, easy.
November 28th, 2010 at 9:19 AM ^
5k....oh no! now we are really hamstrung...eyes roll.
November 28th, 2010 at 9:49 AM ^
This is a man who puts his money where his mouth is. You should not buy a product if you are not satisfied with its performance. It's a talk with your feet kind of thing.
November 27th, 2010 at 11:37 PM ^
Last time we hired a fired head coach as a DC that worked out real well...
November 27th, 2010 at 11:38 PM ^
As long as we didn't make Shannon run the 3-3-5 I don't see why this would be a problem.
November 27th, 2010 at 11:38 PM ^
Coach: Harbaugh
DC: Shannon
OC: RR
We pioneer an innovative new two-QB system and become the Miami Heat of college football (except we win all of our games).
November 27th, 2010 at 11:40 PM ^
Now that is some wishful thinking... I guess it could happen?
November 27th, 2010 at 11:43 PM ^
Yea head coaches take demotions on the same team all the time.
November 27th, 2010 at 11:51 PM ^
I'm pretty sure Rodriguez wants to move down to Tight Ends coach next year.
November 28th, 2010 at 12:08 AM ^
Yeah, he wants to do the reverse Coach Stewart (WVU).
November 28th, 2010 at 8:22 AM ^
DB in college. Maybe he could be the next DB coach here....
November 27th, 2010 at 11:43 PM ^
and Jesus will play at MLB with Zeus and Poseidon at CB
November 28th, 2010 at 12:14 AM ^
Do you think we can still get them?
November 28th, 2010 at 12:15 AM ^
We might have to sway Jesus from his family ties at ND but I think we can get him.
November 28th, 2010 at 12:21 AM ^
I heard from a reliable inside source that Zeus was a big fan of Air Force's helmets and is considering opening up his recruitment again.
November 28th, 2010 at 2:46 AM ^
It's true, he's a big West Coast guy. Huge Chargers fan.
November 28th, 2010 at 7:18 AM ^
snake oil, baby. snake oil
November 28th, 2010 at 12:25 AM ^
I always thought of Zeus as more of a QB, with Hermes in the backfield.
Given his lineage, I think Jesus would be uncoachable - if you thought Tate's dad was bad...
November 28th, 2010 at 12:43 AM ^
According to Rivals
Poseidon commited to Tulane.
November 28th, 2010 at 2:48 AM ^
Hmm.. weird, still has him committed to Miami on Scout. Must of switched after the Shannon fire.
November 28th, 2010 at 2:49 AM ^
I'm not funny enough to say it twice god damn it!
November 28th, 2010 at 10:09 AM ^
That's great! Now think about Venus as a cheerleader.
November 27th, 2010 at 11:45 PM ^
Sauron does not share power! sorry I watch Lord of the Rings on holidays
November 28th, 2010 at 2:50 AM ^
Woah, woah, woah. I ALSO watched Lord of the Rings this week. Seriously, what are the chances of TWO people watching Lord of the Rings in the same week? Crazy shit...
By the way, second one is boss. Motha fuckin Helms Deep son!
November 28th, 2010 at 12:08 AM ^
Urban Meyer on Special Teams.
November 28th, 2010 at 12:10 AM ^
And Gerg can coach the Linebackers.
November 28th, 2010 at 12:54 AM ^
maybe Gerg can convince fuzz wuzzy here to hang around as a kicking coach.
November 28th, 2010 at 12:34 AM ^
/s
That is all.
November 27th, 2010 at 11:42 PM ^
I would be very much okay with this.
November 27th, 2010 at 11:50 PM ^
Let him choose his staff, and I'm on board.
November 27th, 2010 at 11:57 PM ^
It would strengthen the recruiting ties to Florida
November 28th, 2010 at 12:10 AM ^
I've been hoping for a big name to come into play for a new DC and man i would love this move. I want rich to stay and be successful, but we need a big move on the d side
November 28th, 2010 at 12:10 AM ^
I like the look of those rankings.
