TomVH: An Interview with Kris Frost
LB/WR Kris Frost was on campus this weekend, and I got the chance to discuss his visit and how he feels about Michigan. Here's his film, then the interview.
TOM: How was the visit, and what was the game like?
KRIS: I've been to Michigan a few times, obviously, but that was my first time there for a game. The tradition just comes out through everything, it was awesome to see that in person and be a part of that game. I actually got an earlier flight than my parents, because I didn't want to miss them running out and touching the banner. You see that on TV and it sends chills, so to get to see that in person was pretty cool. It was really like no other college game.
TOM: Unfortunately Michigan didn't win, but the crowd seemed pretty loud and into it. You being a Michigan fan, were you as into it as everyone else?
KRIS: I was really impressed by the amount of dedication by the fans. That really excited me. I told my mom I was probably the happiest person in that stadium even though they were losing. I'm not really looking at it as just a win and loss total. You have to look at Michigan and give them the benefit of the doubt because they have injuries, they're playing freshman, and they're a young team. You have to take all that into account with them. I really realized that on this trip. I really don't think my experience would have been any different if they had won or lost the game.
TOM: I know you've been up to Auburn quite a bit, and they've been able to explain how you'd fit in there. That was one of the main aspects you wanted to see at Michigan for this trip. Who did you talk to, and what were they saying about how you'd fit in?
KRIS: I met with the offensive coordinator, Rich Rodriguez, Tony Dews, and Coach Gibson who's recruiting me. I talked to them about I would fit in there, and it was just as good as how Auburn explained everything. Michigan is a lot younger, and more inexperienced and Auburn has a lot of guys that are already there, and they're kind of loaded. Michigan is trying to get back into the groove of things. How many freshman they played, that really opened my eyes and my parent's eyes that I could really play early there. That caught my attention, and by what they showed me I would fit in perfectly.
TOM: After meeting with the coaches, the players, and being there for a game did you feel like it was comfortable?
KRIS: Yeah, I felt comfortable with everyone. That was one thing that I really wanted to see how the atmosphere was, and I wanted to see what it was like being there away from home like that, and it was great.
TOM: Besides the business aspect of this trip, since you're a fan what all did you get to do outside of recruiting?
KRIS: We talked to the academic people, we drove around campus and saw where all the buildings are. We went down to the train station and ate, hung out a little bit. We went to the Michigan store and bought some stuff from the store, so it was fun.
TOM: You plan on graduating early, what's the plan from here?
KRIS: I'm going to LSU and then to Cal, and then I'm going to announce at the Army All American game. We are actually going to try to make it back up to Michigan one more time before the big announcement too, but that depends on my schedule.

So the 17 year old recruit is smarter than the Freep/Mlive. Interesting.
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:22 PM ^
Why can't people be as smart as Kris Frost. It is amazing to me how uninformed some "Michigan" fans are.
November 23rd, 2010 at 12:20 AM ^
If that young man had posted that material regarding the loss on the weekend to Wisconsin
they have injuries, they're playing freshman, and they're a young team
a myriad of commentators later in the thread would have killed him because "fundamentals need to be taught" or "other Big Ten programs teach their players" or "those excuses are unacceptable (I refuse to all caps) etc. etc.
Ah, the wisdom of the young.

Uh, and many people on this here blog, who should be legally banned from talking mess about those two fine e-publications, as well as NDNation, RCMB, etc.

Sounds Blue to me. Good stuff.
November 22nd, 2010 at 9:53 PM ^
Frost would be a great get for Michigan. Hopefully he goes blue here in the near future!
November 22nd, 2010 at 9:56 PM ^
Do you notice that he did not meet with GERG? Am I reading too much into it that a key LB prospect doesn't meet with the DC at a home game?
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:00 PM ^
I'd steer a recruit away from the guy with the talking stuffed animal too.
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:02 PM ^
He wants to be a WR not a LB.
November 23rd, 2010 at 10:02 AM ^
Then why did he keep talking about all the young guys on defense?
November 23rd, 2010 at 10:07 AM ^
Wouldn't you still have a chat? Let's face it, everyone reading this now DESPERATELY wants him to be a LB. I assume the coaches have that secret thought.
The more likely scenario is that GERG is not involved in any recruiting for another reason?
November 23rd, 2010 at 10:17 AM ^
Or that GERG was meeting with other players
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:02 PM ^
Maybe he didnt want a stuff animal. Probably because they are working him out on offense first. Seems he met offensive guys besides Gibson, his recruiter.
November 22nd, 2010 at 11:06 PM ^
I don't think he was ever involved in recruiting? *Cue someone to correct me if I'm wrong
November 23rd, 2010 at 12:00 AM ^
At a Build A Bear
<br>Apparently went well. Frost appreciated GERG going the extra mile and spinning 3x and giving the heart a kiss before the animal was stuffed
November 23rd, 2010 at 10:17 AM ^
That would probably be "telling" if MgoRecruit didn't provide us this tidbit about another LB prospect:
Sleeper prospect Ryan Petro (Winter Springs, FL) has named Michigan is top school after visiting Ann Arbor for the 48-28 loss to Wisconsin. The loss didn't dampen is his spirits, and he thoroughly enjoyed his time on campus.
He got to spend a lot of time with Greg Robinson, seeing how they can utilize his 4.5 speed at the OLB position. He didn't get the offer yet, but still claims the Wolverines are in the lead for his services.
http://mgorecruit.blogspot.com/2010/11/ryan-petro-update.html
I'm guessing he met with those coaches because, as already mentioned above, he's also interested/prefers to play WR. Which also explains why we're pursuing multiple options at LB.

Getting Frost would be awesome. Sounds like we're in pretty good shape right now, hopefully he goes Blue!
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:00 PM ^
but seems like he is very well grounded. would be a great addition.
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:07 PM ^
Hope he can make it back up to AA one more time. GO BLUE!
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:25 PM ^
Ya this was his official visit. It must be a good sign if he wants to visit again on his own dime before he announces.
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:07 PM ^

It'd be nice if more Michigan fans had the perception this youngster has.
Also I am now officially old because I am referring to HS kids as youngsters. Dammit.
November 23rd, 2010 at 1:04 PM ^
for that, they would have to know what they're talking about. Simply too much to ask of your average fan, I'm afraid.
November 23rd, 2010 at 3:24 PM ^
I was thinking when I read it, "Wow this kid is smarter than half the fans and all the local media".
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:10 PM ^
Thanks Tom! Especially liked the part about "I actually got an earlier flight than my parents, because I didn't want to miss them running out and touching the banner." That really speaks to his being a fan, and another visit to AA before the announcement would make me bet on the good guys here.
November 23rd, 2010 at 6:52 AM ^
That's a potent combination. I like to see the Wolverines in a position to win another recruiting battle with top-tier schools.
Looks very good.
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:10 PM ^
Are we recruiting him only as a WR? Is he only interested in playing WR?
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:16 PM ^
The coaches have told him he can play either position. He prefers wide receiver, but has said it doesn't matter that much.
November 23rd, 2010 at 10:14 AM ^
Not really b/c of our depth, but looking at that video, it didn't really appear that he had the speed to be a WR plus I assume he's going to get bigger than his already large 6' 3, 210 lbs.
Then, I looked at his (fake?) 40 time on Rivals, and it shows only a 4.6, which is good for an LB, but not good for a WR unless he has great hands and body control; can't tell from the video if he does/doesn't have that.
I hope we get him, but I also hope he's ready to embrace being a defensive player. That's what we need and that's where he'll likely have much more success.
November 23rd, 2010 at 8:50 AM ^
Well, if he's talking about depth, freshman to compete with, and early playing time then LB is the place. We have pretty good depth at WR, imhe.
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:14 PM ^
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:16 PM ^
Kris Frost is the REAL DEAL HOLYFIELD.
November 23rd, 2010 at 6:42 AM ^
I think both of his are fully intact.
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:19 PM ^
This kid seems like he's pretty level headed and obviously has some great talent. I like his aggressiveness and physicality. We definitely need the toughness and attitude in The LB position
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:22 PM ^
hookers and ho's know how I feel....
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:23 PM ^
We would love to have him here, no doubt.
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:34 PM ^
What a great job as always, I am very confident that Fost ends up Blue. We really do need him. With the Justice Hayes commitment this is a great day
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:37 PM ^
I liked the fact that they went to the "Michigan store and bought some stuff" and plan yet another visit up before announcing.
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:40 PM ^
If you're reading this, we want you going Blue!
November 22nd, 2010 at 10:54 PM ^
After the Dee Hart commit, my next two recruits to worry about were Frost and Zettel. Frost sounds promising but I won't stop freaking out until he signs.
November 22nd, 2010 at 11:10 PM ^
And he plays WR like a LB, I mean that as the utmost of compliments.
Frost & Zettel. That would make the class...And once they're done with their NFL careers, they can open a law firm together.
November 22nd, 2010 at 11:17 PM ^
sounds like a great kid. Would love to have you Kris Frost! Nice work Tom.
November 22nd, 2010 at 11:30 PM ^
Sounds like the total package if I ever heard/saw it.
Plus, 'Frost' will look too cool on a Michigan jersey.
November 22nd, 2010 at 11:47 PM ^
Kris and his parents seem to be level-headed and intelligent. If he's as smart as he sounds, I can see him excelling in the classroom as well as on the field, and one can't underestimate the power of a Michigan degree after a possible professional football career.
I really like the type of guys they're recruiting this year; seems like they'll all get along with the already-close-knit group of younger guys we have now.
Here's to hoping that Kris will become a Michigan man!
November 23rd, 2010 at 12:15 AM ^
I have a hard time seeing a kid as bright as Kris going to Auburn, reasons included, but not limited to, all of the shenanigans going on down there. I bet he goes Blue in the end.
Also, I think he could be a really good receiver, but I hope he plays LB. Either way, he's a great athlete who we'd obviously love to have.
November 23rd, 2010 at 12:33 AM ^
I'd love to have this dude on board. Smart and skilled, just what the doctor ordered.
November 23rd, 2010 at 2:51 AM ^
He is smart, level headed, and a Michigan fan. Frost seems like everything we want in a recruit. All we can do is hope he goes blue..
November 23rd, 2010 at 9:07 AM ^
Kris would be a huge pick up for the recruiting class
November 23rd, 2010 at 9:39 AM ^
Looks like he is going Blue...thanks for the update tom
November 23rd, 2010 at 10:03 AM ^
Is it wrong to read too much into the fact that he wasn't introduced to Greg Robinson?
Edit: okay someone beat me to it. I gues I should have read all the comments first.
