Here's Hoping that OSU gets bitten by the S.I. Cover Jinx
August 12th, 2010 at 11:43 AM ^
That would be funny I'm not gonna lie. Just like playing Purdue last year, but it will happen all year long.
August 12th, 2010 at 11:42 AM ^
I saw covers with Texas and Boise St. as well, so I'm not sure if it counts as the 'real' cover jinx
August 12th, 2010 at 11:49 AM ^
a jinx in this region only
August 12th, 2010 at 12:31 PM ^
Sadly, a regional cover (Mike Hart) jinxed us in '07.

they have a girl starting on the OL
Junior J.B. Shugarts - majoring in Family Resource Management

I would have thought Cosmetology.
August 12th, 2010 at 11:53 AM ^
and not think he looks like a girl?
August 12th, 2010 at 11:58 AM ^
Transgender please.
And then you say, "We're not talking about the guy (girl) who built the railroad."

I thought the proper term was 'Cow' but maybe that's giving columbus girls too much credit
August 12th, 2010 at 2:40 PM ^
Sorry, I was just trying to inject some Dudeness into the conversation.
August 12th, 2010 at 12:04 PM ^
that isn't photoshopped.
August 12th, 2010 at 12:08 PM ^
He/she was sporting that do last year as well.
August 12th, 2010 at 12:09 PM ^
She's very pretty. My buddy is into BBWs. Do you have her number?
August 12th, 2010 at 12:29 PM ^
Marla Hooch was a multi-sport athlete.
August 12th, 2010 at 1:07 PM ^
Jessica Belle Shugarts. It's not the first time there's been a girl in college football though.
August 12th, 2010 at 11:43 AM ^
last year after the ND game. (I believe Tate was a small photo in one of the top corners of the cover). I don't see any reason why this rule shouldn't apply to the school down south.

My brother is a huge buckeye fan - I texted him yesterday and told him that the bucks are f*cked this season. He freaked, thought TP was injured or something - then i let him know they are screwed b/c of the SI cover.
Even though it's a regional cover....I'm with you man hopefully they get some bounces that don't go their way this season!
August 12th, 2010 at 12:01 PM ^
And you still refer to him as your brother?
August 12th, 2010 at 12:09 PM ^
His way of being a rebel as a kid and it stuck - in a family of all Michigan fans. He's a typical ohio state fan - thinks that they are going to win a NC every season, thinks Tressel opened up the playbook in the Rose Bowl last year and TP will play like that every game this season, talks up every buckeye recruit before they've ever stepped in a college classroom, etc.
When Michigan beats OSU in columbus this year - i'll be making lots of phone calls and i can bet you that they'll go straight to voicemail!

Problem is, Pryor avoids contact like the plague. He steps out of bounds casually, about 3 yards before contact. He plays uninterested, which would drive me nuts if he came to AA. Unless he gets blindsided, he won't even break a nail.
That being said, I hope he gets exposed as a fraud this year.
August 12th, 2010 at 12:06 PM ^
Beanie Wells. I will never, ever forget during the draft two years ago when he was picked by AZ and Kiper said that he thought Wells' weakness was, even though he was a "power back," that he tried to avoid contact. And they showed a highlight of him storming downfield against Michigan, and suddenly side-steps out of bounds to avoid contact from none other than... Morgan Trent! It was 235lb Wells vs. 189lb Trent. That's right, a 46lb differential and Wells would rather step out of bounds than try to run over him. To me, that has to say something about coaching, a little bit.

it's impossible to avoid Will Campbell.
August 12th, 2010 at 12:48 PM ^
Because of gravity?
August 12th, 2010 at 2:57 PM ^
I thought I was the only one who noticed that.

August 12th, 2010 at 12:01 PM ^
Lately, it seems like we're always playing them at half-strength.
August 12th, 2010 at 12:27 PM ^
Yeah man, nothing gets me more excited than the prospect of kids shredding their ACLs.
I know that's probably not how you meant it, but let's just beat them at full strength.
August 12th, 2010 at 12:32 PM ^
Bitten?
I would prefer it was deliverd to OSU as they were on all fours.
August 12th, 2010 at 1:13 PM ^
I was simply stating I am sick of playing them at half-strength. The 2006 game was last time we faced them as equals.
A healthy 2007 team would have destroyed them (See Capital One Bowl). In 2008, well, I think we took that year off or something.
And in last year's game, our QB was dinged up, we had no Minor RAGE, and so on.
Simply put, it would be nice if we could go into the game standing tall instead of limping.
August 12th, 2010 at 12:33 PM ^
Haven't they been on the regional cover every damn year since '08 anyway?
August 12th, 2010 at 12:35 PM ^
I hope there are some star players that get injured. Nothing too serious but just enough to put them out for a while. Like Pryor. Hopefully he breaks a couple fingers and can't throw. Booo OSU!
August 12th, 2010 at 12:38 PM ^
Not great form to wish injuries on anyone.
Besides, he can't really throw anyway
August 12th, 2010 at 1:26 PM ^
In the first place, I never wish injuries on anyone.
And second, I want to beat OSU at their best. I would never want to say that we need someone to be injured, in order for Michigan to beat them.
August 12th, 2010 at 1:00 PM ^
I'm not going to mention what happened after this hit the mailbox. Good luck with that, Buckeyes.
August 12th, 2010 at 1:16 PM ^
The only jinx that is going to affect OSU this year is the "Why is Tressel still kissing Pryor's butt" jinx. That will be enough to give them two losses somewhere. Hopefully, one is against Michigan.
August 12th, 2010 at 1:26 PM ^
I remember in 2008 three Buckeyes made the cover including their senior QB who was replaced by Pryor for the season despite no injuries and the fact that he was the All-Big Ten QB in 2007 (Henne was injured). I wonder what true freshman QB Tressel is planning to replace Pryor with this year in accordance with SI cover law.
August 12th, 2010 at 2:09 PM ^
That is the ultimate sports jinx.
Just ask Brian Urlacher, Kurt Warner, Donovan McNabb, Terrell Davis, LaDanian Tomlinson and Big Ben

I had just ordered a subscription of SI, I hope that I get the college football preview issue soon.
