Felt through out metro Detroit and some saying Rochester, NY.
Facebook seems to indicate it was felt there.
My 2 female coworkers are going crazy with their facebook updates right now.
Some in Ann Arbor claim to have felt it, but I didn't. : (
I'm in Ann Arbor and felt it.
I work in Randall Lab, and I was in the sub basement at the time... Another guy I work with was on the fourth floor, and he says they all felt it. JEALOUSY.
i work in Chemistry and was on the fourth floor and I didn't feel it. Oh well...
Everyone in our building of 2000 people felt in S.H. I thought it was one of our "fat" chicks walking through.
I thought I had real high blood pressure temporarily or something because it felt like it was in sync with my pulse, but my officemate noticed the same thing, so I knew it was a mini earthquake. Freaked me out and I thought I was going to stroke out for a second there.
My buddy at 5 mile and East Beltline in Grand Rapids said his office buliding shook for 15 seconds.
I'm right by there and didn't feel anything... all those buildings are pretty short, too. they were saying it'd be felt in taller buildings... weird.
I'm right by Burton and the Beltline and no one noticed a thing. Too busy watching this tennis nonsense and avoiding work to notice I guess.
Crazy. Nothing felt here in downtown. I'll ask my buddy who lives up near 3 Mile and Fuller.
My girlfriend works downtown GR....she says she didnt feel a thing.
first time shes said that, huh??? :)
My wife works in downtown GR...7 stories up. She emailed me and said that her whole office felt it, and that was before it even hit the news.
in Randall Lab on the 3rd floor. Cabinets shook for a second.
do you know Narwald?
Not by screen name, at least. :P
one of the 200 people doing research here, just like me. I'm an engineering student, though, so I don't know a lot of the people around the building and I'm mostly looked down upon by the physics honchos.
I'm not even part of physics or engineering. I'm a neuroscience major with a workstudy job doing tech support here. :P
Makes me wonder how many people in this building are usually on MGoBlog at a time...
If it's anything like the rest of the university, i'd say 85%. the other 15% are looking at the mgolicious links.
I didn't feel anything, but I heard this weird noise that I couldn't quite place. Seemed like the air was vibrating. Now I know what it was.
Slovenia and Algeria were hit pretty bad , though.
Felt it- couple of minutes of my building swaying and rolling- only on the third story, though. I do not like earthquakes.
Didn't feel anything out here in Chicago, but some friends in Bowling Green, OH are reporting that they felt it.
Felt it when my computer chair started rocking...
I first thought I was drunk then realized it was only 1 in the afternoon.
Ditto that here. I sit on the second floor, and could feel the movement. No idea what it was until I started reading the news reports. Crazy.
And at 1 you're usually hungover?
Didn't feel a thing out in Shelby Twp./Washington Twp.
I grew up in Washington. Mind if I ask what you're doing out in that area?
brandon graham hitting glen winston
I'm downtown, too. I was walking back home from lunch when it happened. I heard a bunch of sirens at about the time it might have happened--or it might have been the cops doing something for the goddamn G20.
In my inbox, there are a series of confused/alarmed messages from management about it. The office is in a fairly tall building not too far from the airport, and they definitely felt it.
I felt it here in Ann Arbor, but only for a few seconds-- and most of my co-workers did not. Leading them to speculate, at first, that I'm crazy. And then, that I'm part cockroach.
I'm on the 3rd floor of a building near campus. I wouldn't have known what it was, but it reminded me of what we felt during that Ashtabula, OH quake some years back.
nothing here.
Is the 2nd fattest city in America and we experience a 5.0 any time The Old Country Buffet opens for business.
8 mile and 275 next to the Quicken Loans building. I blew it off because i thought I was just tired or something. Felt like i was swaying in my chair a bit.
Felt something in St Clair Shores while working in the basement at city hall. Guess that was it.
Felt it here in the office in Midland, MI.
been way to busy celebrating to notice anything ... hopefully everyone is ok
Felt it here. Maybe a sunami will claim the mistake by the lake!
Renaissance Center. Felt it.
High up in the Fisher Building. Sadly, I was coming back from lunch and missed it, but apparently roller chairs moved...
No, no I didn't...but you can imagine what it'd be like if I did. Eh? Eh?
I suppose those of you in the midwest aren't used to this, so here's a link to the USGS Earthquake map for North America:

How frequent are earthquakes in Toronto area?
About 10 years ago if I remember correctly. Not a very common occurence.
Damn that is a long time. I've been through many earthquakes, so 5.5 does not seem like a big deal. If it was 10 years since that last one, it must have been surprising.
