the IU game was cold enough for me, and that was in the upper 30s/lower 40s

The B1G needs Penn State to be good again
AND Illinois to be good again
AND Purdue to be good again
AND Northwestern to be good again
The B1G needs to return to the late 90s era if they want respect on a national level. In 1999, the Big Ten finished with 7 of 11 teams in the final top 25. Now, we're lucky if we get 3 or 4 out of 14. That's pathetic and well beyond just Michigan sucking.

(with OSU not being one of them) is damn good
Compare that to last year with 3 of 12 teams in the final top 25.

I decided to watch U-M/Northwestern from 2003; this is the one-handed Avant catch game. Navarre's senior year. Everybody remembers how much hate Navarre got, and obviously he got better as time went on, but just in this highlight reel he makes three throws that I doubt Gardner can make. Edwards and Avant catchability rules apply. OL pass protection ability is obviously better as well, but Navarre still gets rid of the ball much quicker. Makes the drop, gets rid of the ball.
0:33 -- doubt Gardner can make that throw. Not a small window there, there's plenty of room, but it required some zip on it and I haven't seen Gardner throw a regular run-of-the-mill rope in some time.
2:49 -- Doubt it, but not impossible for Gardner because it's a floater pass. He could get lucky, I guess.
5:07 -- Not a chance in hell. I doubt I've seen a pass like that in five years

It might be a bad idea to sign a FG kicker that somehow gets the ball to fly through the air sideways and instead of tumbling end-over-end like it should, the ball looks like a damn helicopter out there. Seriously, what did the Lions see in that guy that told them "this guy will solve all our FG issues!"

No, he wasn't perfect and would Lloydball games away to Illinois in 1999 and to Purdue in 2000, along with others, but at least the team was ahead to Lloydball those games away. Keep in mind that those years were also the most competitive the Big 10 has probably ever been. Illinois, Purdue, and Northwestern were all good teams. 1999 featured SEVEN Big 10 teams in the final BCS poll and OSU wasn't one of them:
Wisconsin (4), U-M (5), MSU (7), PSU (11), Minnesota (18), Illinois (24), Purdue (25)
I would take a Lloydballed game every other year or so if the team could go 3-2 against the top 25 each year, including a win over the final #4 team in the country.

like OSU with Meyer. That guy was on nobody's list because nobody thought he wanted to coach. When every decent candidate has a slim chance of coming here, you have to think outside the box. Which I realize is easy to say/hard to do, but that's why the AD is paid the big bucks. Unfortunately, this program needs a major wakeup call.

1. Put 11 guys on the field for punt returns. Just a suggestion, really.
2. Don't run the ball on 2nd and 22. Well, actually, let's back that up a bit. Don't give up a huge sack every time you're close to being within FG range.
3. Put Morris in -- he's no savior and will turn the ball over 6 times a game, but if I see another pass to Funchess when he's triple covered, my head might explode. This is purely a matter of self-preservation on my part. I don't want my head to explode.
4. Enroll Dymonte Thomas in the Stevie Brown school for future SAMs
5. Tell Joe Bolden and Jake Ryan to just keep doing what they're doing

I thought 9-3 was possible with losses to MSU, OSU, and a random team that was not ND.
I really thought this team would have no problem with ND, especially after they had a bunch of guys suspended. Don't forget that they replaced BOTH their OC and DC. I watched the ND spring game, and their defense looked incredibly awful, leaving guys wide open with no one within 15 yards on some plays. Golson looked good, and I figured it would be a shootout with Garder slightly better in the end. I couldn't be more wrong.
Utah is another team I thought U-M would have no problem with. Not so long ago, Hoke had this huge streak of winning at home, and I figured there'd be no way this team would lose at home the way they did. They are completely lost out there.
I look at the rest of the schedule and it's hard for me to pick what games are going to get them to 5-7

but I felt like there was a lot less piped-in music this game. I heard the band a lot, because I remember them playing over the Miami band pretty much all the time. It seems like most of the piped-in music is relagated to kickoffs, which is annoying but not super terrible.
There are still moments where the music is played for zero reason, just a 10 second snippet that leads to nowhere. This happened during pregame before the team ran out of the tunnel -- multiple songs before they actually ran out. It happened later in the 2nd half as well. But there's no Eminem cheer any more and no more In the Big House, so it's not like it's super invasive.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Completely inept rushing in the Iowa game||
22 yards rushing for the game. Game was actually pretty close initially (10-9 Iowa in the 3rd), then U-M muffed a punt, Iowa scored soon after, and U-M decided they wouldn't play defense or protect Navarre the rest of the day.

"that time" was 1995-2002, when we were 5-3 against OSU
|10 weeks 6 days ago||I remember grumblings during the Carr era||
The Tennessee game where TE Jason Witten outran our entire secondary in the Citrus Bowl (this is where SEC SPEED really took on a life of its own), followed the next year by that Iowa game, which was the worst home loss (at that time) since the 60s. People were pissed. But U-M rarely lost to MSU during that time and at least kept even with OSU, so it was no where near the situation we're in now.
Those Carr losses were shocking at the time because U-M went 3 years without losing by more than a TD. Now it's just commonplace.
|11 weeks 11 hours ago||The thing that broke me in this game||
was the TD to make it 28-0. U-M runs a double A-gap blitz, the thing that has victimized our team countless times during the Hoke era, and Golson just calmly throws a slant and the guy prances into the endzone untouched. Seriously what the hell is wrong with this team, these concepts are not rocket science and other teams have no difficulty dealing with them at all. It looks like our team doesn't even know how to tie their own shoelaces.
