Indy 500
I'll be the first to admit that I'm not much of a racing fan but I do tune in to watch parts of the 500 every year. A few things of note regarding the race thus far today......... Scott Dixon was involved in a crazy crash early in the race.....
And an F1 driver, Fernando Alonso, from Europe has been performing well and has led some laps.
There are 50 laps left of a 200 lap race and according to the announcers one or maybe two pit stops depending on the team and strategy. Could be a fun ending.
Oops, I should've mentioned that Dixon walked away from the crash.
He landed in about the worst way possible and walked away. As a race fan this is the best day of the year. Starts with Formula one at Monaco, 500 during the day and the Coke 600 as the nightcap.
Considering how and where he landed he is extremely lucky.
The gif in this tweet shows the landing.
Oh my god it’s incredible that Scott Dixon is OK. pic.twitter.com/2nA1DRIIRo

I thought this was a fatal crash. Amazing how technology has made this a survivable crash. the witness accounts of the Gordon Smiley 1982 accident shows how far these cars have come.
And Alonso's car fails?!?!?! Nice to see the crowd recoginize his effort and give him an ovation.
And coming on. Now a red flag mess.
In my opinion Alonso is the best driver in the world and has been for the last decade. He has had the misfortune of being with a bunch of F1 teams that were down when he made the switch. Some of the pain probably goes away when he gets his $40 million year paycheck.
Holy shit, Helio!!
Helio!!!
Pulling away
Crazy ending
As an avid F1 fan I was really pulling for Alonso today as McLaren hasnt given him a competitive ride since he's returned there. That said I was quite happy this morning to finally see my reds finish with a 1-2 in Monaco.
FORZA FERRARI, FORZA VETTEL!
It was clear all day that the Andretti Hondas were the fastest cars on the track. It probably shoulda been Hunter-Reay who won but that's why you go 200 laps.
Had hunter reay in a pool, was feeling good till the engine just gave out on him
Gutted for Alonso, Honda engines have given him trouble ever since he joined McLaren again. However, I'm incredibly happy with both Takuma winning as another (former) F1 driver and Ferrari's 1-2 in Monaco. Onto the Coca Cola 600!
Comes to Detroit next weekend for those who are interested.

LOL racing
Nothing but a giant waste of gasoline and oil.
If only there was away to avoid viewing a thread you deem to be a waste and thus not post something stupid and waste digital space. Imagine a world like that, dipshit.
The Dixon crash is evidence of some incredible engineering by the brightest safety engineers in the world. He had no business surviving that crash and just casually walked away. That sort of technology doesn't just confine itself to the racing word; it trickles into normal cars as well. For me personally, when a guy walks away from a 200+ mph crash, it gives me some confidence that I can walk away from a 50 mph one.
RIght on - it was a shocking thing to see. The fact that he walked away is astounding.
Great day at the track! First comfortable day in what seems like ten or fifteen years and even made some money.
This race used to be the BOMB. When I was a kid, it wasnt televised live -- for some reason they felt they made more money by doing a same-day broadcast at nite. So my dad used to listen to the race live on RADIO. AJ Foyt, Rick Meers, the Andrettis, they were household names and larger than life. But now...
Sorta like boxing I guess.
Or not like boxing at all.
Ain't nothin better than a good piece of pu**y, except maybe the Indy 500
since the birth of my son in '02. Would have been my 24th overall.
Put the Indy 500 on your bucket list if you've never been. It's the greatest spectacle in racing.
