OT: USA vs El Salvador (open thread)

Submitted by Brian Griese on
Kick-off at 9 ET on FS1. Winner plays Los Ticos this weekend thanks to an own goal by Panama. Arena called in 6 reinforcements for the knockout stage and 5 are in the starting 11 tonight (Altidore, Dempsey, Nagbe, Howard and Bradley). Go USA!

Yikes. Zardes, Arriola, Hedges, Morrow, and Dempsey starting?! Would much prefer to see Rowe and Dwyer (both sent home) than Zardes/Dempsey.

Bradley and Nagbe should help settle central midfield which was pretty poor in the group stage.

Regardless, El Salvador is pretty trash, lacking quality outside of Zelaya, and awful defensively. Should advance comfortably.

Is I can watch Dr. Zhivago and turn back to game at 30 min and I've missed nothing, watch to see 2 goals and know the game is over.  Great. Advance.

Just popping in to say that I'm sure Matt Hedges is a fine person and was the MLS Defender of the Year recently but he has been abysmal this tournament.

Like his teammate Zimmerman better than him for the USA. Hedges is great in mls because he has tremendous line mates. He can't deal with the speed/quickness of the international game. I don't think I'd say he is awful, but totally agree he looks pretty exposed at times and using should do better.
