Announcing Errors
I have nothing against Griese/Levy But they were both a bit off today. Anyone else notice the multitude of errors during the broadcast?
I believe it was Griese that mentioned Michigan opening the next two seasons vs. Arkansas, which isn't true. Then in the 3rd quarter, Griese said "PJ Fleck was the coach of Central MIchigan" he's actually the coach for Western.
They also seemed to have been very confused about the targeting call/ejection in the first half although, it seems as if targeting in college has about as much confusion as completed catches in the NFL.

this is in the game thread, but at one point I believe Griese said he hopes Michigan and Notre Dame renew their rivalry.

Finally watching the tape, and the Notre Dame revival hope was just a couple minutes ago.

it was after the answer to Aflac Trivia question about attendance, and the answer was a UTL game with ND.

As someone who lived in Orlando, I can understand why people would think that.

Considering Georgia is struggling with NIchols State, Clemson is struggling with Troy, and Okie State is tied with CMU, I'll take a 30 point lead from a defense missing 3 starters.

I can't seem to find the original post(s) by Hokelessromantic, so I will have to respond to this response.
I don't really know the best way to respond to Hokelessromantic without it becoming a senseless "I said/He said" situation. Or, more precisely, an "I DID NOT say!" But I cannot let those falsehoods go unchallenged.
1) I NEVER EVER misidentified Denard Robinson as John Navarre. That is absurd! I wasn't even the announcer during the Navarre Era, so there is no reason his name and # would suddenly pop into my head. Just didn't happen. You must have mis-heard.
2) I NEVER identified Shane Morris as Chad Henne! Equally absurd. If I had made such a 7-year-later mistake, surely SOMEONE would have mentioned it. Someone in the booth, someone in the press box, someone in the crowd. But in the 2 years since that game occurred, no one has ever said anything--until you did yesterday. I believe you are mistaken.
3) This one is the worst. I do not mispronounce the names of Michigan's own players. Never. In the first game this season, we were unfamiliar with back-up place-kicker James Foug. He had not appeared on any of the advance lists I was given. I guessed at "foog" the first time. And we later found that it was "foge." Other than that...
You claimed that I have consistently mispronounced names of players who have been on the team for years. That is not true. Perhaps you don't know how the names are to be pronounced. I research it. The Athletic Department researches it. The Michigan Radio team researches it. And we share information. Tell me 1 name that I've mispronounced. (And that doesn't even include a roster full of multi-syllabic Hawaiian/Polynesian names last week which I aced.)
4) You made a strange comment about people appreciating my contributions to "music and production." I have no idea what that refers to. I have nothing to do with music or production at Michigan Stadium.
5) You also said that I was an employee of the program. I am not. I am not paid a salary for announcing. I live and work in Chicago.
To this I will admit: in the course of a game and calling literally hundreds of names, we probably miss about 2 per game because of difficulties reading the jersey numbers or bad information regarding duplicate numbers. We are at the very top of a 5-story building sitting atop Michigan Stadium. We use binoculars for everything, but occasionally I will mis-read a numeral. We had 1 mistake yesterday. Jabrill returned virtually every kick all day exept for the one where Channing Stribling was deep. My spotter gave me bad info and I identifed him as Peppers. (He never touched the ball, so no problem.)
We work very hard to get everything right. We do not make "5-6 glaring errors every game." It just ain't so.
I'd be glad to discuss this if you think I'm missing something.

Griese completely blew the targeting play analysis. When the tackled player's head snaps back like that, it's obvious he was hit in the head. It didn't matter if the tackler hit helmet to helmet or not (but it certainly looked that way to me).
allintime 23 seems to have the answer: Griese is trying too hard to avoid being a homer, but ended up slanting much of his commentary against Michigan.
September 10th, 2016 at 4:15 PM ^
Also Griese said he was a freshman in 93 when Colorado had the Hail Mary and Cooper was 1-11 vs Michigan. I know these are splitting hairs, but when you're in the booth facts are kind of an important thing to get right.

and has a ways to catch u with his dad in the announcing thing (although having a keith Jackson sitting next to you probably helps...and Levy is sooooooooooooo far from a Keith Jackson).
September 10th, 2016 at 5:00 PM ^
I thought it was odd when Levy said the Holocaust never happened. Otherwise, I thought he and Griese did fine.
September 10th, 2016 at 5:02 PM ^
it seems like he prefers just hanging out and shooting the shit with the color guy than commenting on the game. I think that can actually be fairly entertaining in small portions but it's not how you approach a football broadcast and really it's not something you want to hear for 3 and a half hours either.
September 10th, 2016 at 5:06 PM ^
Where have you gone Keith Jackson?
I don't know if he was trying too hard to not looked biased or was just wildly unprepared, but Griese came off like an idiot today.
