OT: Decent hoops team there in Oakland, CA

Submitted by SpinachAssassin on

One of the most incredible basketball games I've seen in recent memory, regular season or otherwise. Curry is a savant on the court and the rest of that team's pieces fit in so, so well. 72 wins or not, what a fun team to watch.

The Big O probably didn't like the outcome...

They're a fun team to watch, but the only reason they won last year is because of two fluke injuries. It's still the Cavs and the Spurs who control the league.

This is such a tired, bs cliche thing to say. I will give you that watching most NBA teams is not that exciting, but holy shit are the Warriors or the Thunder amazing to watch. Put them together against each other and you have what a lot of saw last night - a ridiculously entertaining game. The talent level is just unreal.

Exactly...and guys like Westbrook who play as hard as they possibly can should earn respect from all of the old "back in the day" people. So you have incredibly talented players and they're going 110% - something that is a knock of some of today's NBA.

Are you the artist formerly known as Cranky Dave?

Just take it from the dozens of Michigan athletics fans who commented on this thread having nothing to do with Michigan, and the possibly thousands of others who clicked on it - YOU missed a Freakin Ballgame, brother!

Most players rush to heave that half court shot. Curry knew exactly where he was going to shoot from and dribbled to the exact spot he wanted to shoot from. He could have easily taken a shot closer to the basket if he wanted to push. Ridiculous. I live in SF and you could hear people screaming from the bars down the whole block.

The entire crowd just went "Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo".

The only time I've ever heard that sound at a game I attended was when Reggie Jackson hit that ridiculous home run at the '72 all-star game.  I was just a little kid, but I'll never forget that sound.  52,000 people just awestruck.

Same sound tonight.  Unbelievable game, amazing finish.

I was at that All-Star game in Tiger Stadium too - 11 years old and NEVER forgotten that massive HR off Doc Ellis (tripping on acid, or so he claimed!)

But it was '71, not '72

Another thing that happened that year - Roberto Clemente's ridiculous WS vs the Orioles. We HATED the O's, so Roberto became my favorite player, I changed my # to 21 and wore it forever after. What Steph did last night Clemente did for an entire 7 game series. Unreal - batted .414 with 1.211 OPS, and made an icredible throw from deep in the right field corner to save a run.

Curry is just unstoppable right now. He is arguably the greatest shooter in NBA history and the guy has played less than 7 seasons. He is the best player in the NBA today.. Unreal.

A lot of people, me included, thought Curry would be good but not a star. I didn't think he had a tight enough handle to be a great 1. Now he has the ball on a string through hard work.

When people started blowing up Twitter about the first salvo of threes, I tuned in to the Warriors game and you could look away after that really. Absolutely unreal. I say there thinking something that you don't often think about one person on a team - "this dude is not fair, just not fair". NBA twitter lost its marbles over that performance too, with Magic Johnson even ringing in at one point saying  - paraphrasing here - if Curry keeps that up for another few seasons, he might be the greatest ever, in his estimation.

And the ONLY path I see for us to beat the Warriors would be to channel the 1989 Pistons and make the series as physical and rough as humanly possible.  The one chink in Steph's armour IMO is that he doesnt like contact and so far at least, the NBA has accomidated him by allowing Green to set moving screens at will and whistling anybody who gets within 5 feet of Curry.

I would make the series a bloodbath and force the officials to literally foul out the entire Cavs team if necessary.  And I would start from the opening tip of game one and I would keep it up for as many games as played.  I would run Curry through one jarring pick after another when he's on defense and I'd foul him HARD on every shot.  IMO sooner or later it will take a toll on his shooting.

It worked for the Bad Boy Piston teams against the great Michael Jordan.  It can work again against Curry.

True, it may be the least worst option.

This has to suck for Cleveland fans.  You get LeBron back after the agony of watching him win titles in Miami, only to have Golden State (and San Antonio) now blocking the way.  Last year was the year to do it.  If the team had stayed healthy, it was possible.  This year will be tougher.  GS now is on another level in terms of their team chemistry.

And in the medium term LeBron will outlast this iteration of the Spurs. LBJ will still be at the tail end of his prime when Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker are done. Sure, they'll still have Kawhi and Pop (unless he retires with Timmy) but the real question is how long can this version of the Warriors stay healthy and together.

I went through their remaining schedule at the start of Feb and had them winning 73 games. That assumed a win in Portland and a loss in OKC. Last night shows that Steph's shooting is a trump card. If he's on, probably doesn't matter who, where, or how hard the other team plays.

The debate about them vs the 96 Bulls is a good one, and I really hope GS does get 73 and a championship to shut up the 'back in my day' guys. Wilbon being the cheif among the old farts who's have become insufferable. IMO, the NBA was pretty weak in the mid 90s, and I think the Spurs, OKC, and Cavs were better competition than anything those 96-98 Bulls team had to play.

Hand checking is the key not the inside game! People that don't believe the hand checking would have an effect basically don't understand basketball.
If a defender had a hand on Steph's hip the whole time he does not score like he's scoring. It's that simple. Now, the dude is the best stop and pop shooter I've ever seen no doubt but the set plays with a hand heck would have an effect.
