I don't think Jake Rudock has shaken out the Greg Davis offense from his system yet.
Most of this game his primary read was the short route, even if the intermediate route was open he would still zone in and force the short.

I'm all for Harbaugh creating competition and not handing anything to players, but man is it annoying when every damn thread has someone bitching about Countess or Green or Morris or anyone who has underperformed and instead of thinking maybe they try hard but aren't that good or whatever, some poster assumes they're whining crybabies who get everything handed to them.
I'd also bet most of those posters would not have made it through a fall camp with Harbaugh.

They'll work their way in more and more. They are earning their playing time. I'm excited to see more of them.

He was playing an absolutely gassed D. Green's speed vs Smith was never an issue. Its his ability to stand upright to an arm tackle.
September 12th, 2015 at 4:14 PM ^
and I still think it's pretty clear that he goes down the easiest. Smith was churning harder and harder as the game went. Isaac did a little too. Green was out there against a tired D and still went down way too easy for a 'power' back.
He's still 3rd-4th string in my opinion

Missed games like that

interesting that Speight came in instead of Morris at the end

I think Morris came in for the knee to end the game
September 12th, 2015 at 3:48 PM ^
Nope, that was Speight. Morris is in for the RS plan.
September 12th, 2015 at 3:50 PM ^
It was Speight, not Morris

Rudock needs more reps. He is making rookie mistakes. But, he did make some nice throws. He needs to have a better coordination with Chesson and Perry. I want to see more Drake.
Smith is in beast mode. He is going to get some tough yards.
OL looked better. Big holes, even though it is OSU.
Improvements on every phase of the game, especiallly RB and OL, except Rudock.
September 12th, 2015 at 3:25 PM ^
I wouldn't expect to see improvement from Rudock. He's plateaued. He played okay in the first game and okay today. That's what we're going to get from him.

That's a silly thing to say. He's played two games in this offense.
September 12th, 2015 at 3:57 PM ^
Previous offense wasn't much different. I just wouldn't get your hopes up for too much from him.
September 12th, 2015 at 4:33 PM ^
Time and the best QB coach in the country favor him improving throughout the year.
September 12th, 2015 at 3:44 PM ^
He will get more comfortable in the offense at least and develop a better feel of the recievers. I dont know how much of an overall difference those factors will make but he should be at least a little better at the end of the season.

2-3 TOs a game is not all we need. vs MSU and OSU that is going to lead to 21-28 type pt wins for them. Vs a team like Minn which will probably be a 17-14 type of game 2 or 3 TOs = loss. We need better on the TO scale. Everything else he is does is fine for what we need but I'd love to see him connect with Chesson for once over 20 yds.

He reduced his interceptions by 2/3.

We can haz rushing offense? This will likely not continue vs a defense with a pulse, but it was promising nonetheless.

Poggi isn't showing any reason he should be cutting into Buntings pt so far.
September 12th, 2015 at 4:15 PM ^
Poggi is a blocking H-back / "TE". Bunting is a smaller catchy TE. They can't be traded like-for-like

Awful defense for OSU but we did what was needed. Nice to grind down a small DL. TOs still a damn issue that must be cleaned up by BYU. 1 more practice game next week.
September 12th, 2015 at 3:24 PM ^
They utterly dominated the second even when Collins was in. It was an uneven performance.
Still haven't found a way to force multiple turnovers.

"awful defense for OSU" should have been worded "OSU has an awful defense" to make it clear.

not ours?
September 12th, 2015 at 3:23 PM ^
I can't remember the last time I saw a UM offense wear down an opposing D and it was great to see the OL and backs improve from week one and the the first half.
September 12th, 2015 at 3:23 PM ^
Last three quarters were like night and day compared to the first five quarter of the season. Don't know if we'll be able to manhandle future opponents on the line, which is a requirement for Smith to be effective. But this was a satisying performance to watch.
Green looked explosive.

But they did what they should. Not predictive, but a good comparison to this type of game the last couple of years.
Baby steps.

The way it should be, and a ton of fun, but the game likely holds little predictive power.
September 12th, 2015 at 3:23 PM ^
is how we look offensively. Very much a limited affair and stout Ds will keep this O under 20 points for sure. But if the D plays well, it will give you a chance to stay in games and get something in the end.
