im thinking that if a kid is able to maintian grades high enough to transfer to michigan and was good enough of an athlete for the coaches to recruit him, he probably would have been offered by some other schools out of high school and gone there instead.
|1 day 12 hours ago||its like in 2011 we were||
its like in 2011 we were awesome, and then in 2012 we lost a rimington award winning center, junior hemingway, and denard got hurt and then in 2013 we lost 3 senior interior oline men and had to start freshmen. almost like every year is different because you have new unknown players and circumstances....
|1 day 14 hours ago||we rushed 41 times for 161||
we rushed 41 times for 161 yards, 3.9 a carry with a fitz long of 31 and a denard long of 20, take those out and we were averaging 2.8yds a carry, i dont see any of that as a successful rushing attack. denard threw 24 times and had 4 picks but averaged 5.75 yards an attempt. thats a heavily run based attack but i guess borges should have gone all georgia southern and only thrown the ball like 3 times...
|1 day 14 hours ago||"This staff has not shown the||
"This staff has not shown the ability to win big games on the road" is such bullshit. it's easier to win at home than on the road thats a fact. Is it hoke and borges fault denard threw 5 picks against notre dame last year? or got hurt against nebraska? or that TE missed the block against state on the 4th down conversion and then denard threw a pick the next drive?
sometimes the other team makes the plays and our plays dont its not always the staffs fault. against Iowa this year funchess gets the dropsies and cant catch anything stalling drives, morgan and ross both get hurt so iowa gets in the game and then gardner fumbles on the last drive when we are down 3 to lose it. sometimes especially on the road players make mistakes because they are kids. Most of these road games are close and the coaches and players put themselves in position to win but just couldnt quite get that last play they needed. It's not ncaa 14 where you can just quit and try again if you screw up and throw too many picks or you can just exploit the glitches in the AI and run the same plays down the field while the computer derps around. sometimes our players dont make the plays that they need to.
|2 days 8 hours ago||about the lions being able to run||
the lions running game being opened up this season after calvin gets doubled every play is 75% larry warford being a studbolt at right guard and 25% reggie bush juking everybody and their mother. for an example look at last seasons lions with the same calvin johnson BREAKING JERRY RICES RECORD AND WE STILL COULDNT RUN THE BALL because stephen peterman was one of the worst guards in the league. The lions last season faced the most 6 man boxes in the history of ever and couldnt run to save their lives because of the line play.
|2 days 11 hours ago||this isnt basketball where||
this isnt basketball where one player can carry you, or hockey where the hot goalie beats everything. its a team sport, all the talent in the world doesnt help when that prolific qb is turnover prone since he isnt getting great protection from the walk-on sophomore center and redshirt (or occasionally true) freshmen guards. Inconsitent play from young players is what doomed this team and is why the future will be better because those players will learn and grow from the expereince.
Everybody is pointing to bubble screens as the holy grail problem that unleashed the offense but it was more the fact that OSU's front 4 is also on the younger side, and mostly inexperienced and that let us give gardner enough time and let the run game get going a bit. the reason we have been poor on offense is because we couldnt run the ball, successful offenses can run look at bama last year, auburn this year, whatever FCS team beat florida, baylor, oklahoma state etc etc etc. being able to run or pass forces defenses to be honest and defened the whole field. And then when you cant run because of a weak oline who also struggles in pass protection you get negative plays and negative rushing totals.
|2 days 14 hours ago||did everybody forget we were||
did everybody forget we were in position to win the penn state game repeatedly? we were up a touchdown with like a minute left, could have won in overtime repeatedly and yet we still complain about the offense even though they did enough to win. penn state just made the plays they needed to and gibbons missed kicks.
|2 weeks 7 hours ago||thats the whole point of play||
thats the whole point of play action to test the defenses discipline and get them to pull up, they bite up a little and the reciever gets a step or the linebackers take a step up and open up the middle a little more or the d-line slows down the rush for a second trying to hold positon and possibly get the running back and the Oline can get to them. obviously it works better when the running game is humming but it still does all those things on a given play.

last years oline wasnt youthful, just lacked starting experience. barnum mealer and omameh were all seniors, lewan and schofield were juniors. they just were bad at run blocking....
|2 weeks 2 days ago||it was actually around 50||
it was actually around 50 degrees for the game, the wind was bad but other than that weather didnt affect much outside field conditions.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||borges won was coordinator||
borges was coordinator when we won the sugar bowl (a bcs bowl incase you forgot), and had 2 thousand yard rushers for the first time in forever, has gotten gallon to be the first thousand yard reciever since 2007 and on track to possibly break the michigan recieving record.
This team with the worst offensive line you have ever seen in college football and the ruined qb is still 7-3 and has scored 59, 41, 42, 40, and 63 points in games this year.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||our running game in 2011 was||
our running game in 2011 was awesome with molk leading the oline and fitz going over 1000 yards. last season we all saw that the run game out side denard was unexistent but the oline was solid in pass protection since it was seniors on the inside with our outsanding tackles outside. this season we have no protection and barely any hope to run the ball and now that everybody has discovered the interior cant block for shit they can blow up everything, as more stuff gets put on film defenses can prepare for it better and when you can barely block anything so the playbook is simplified they dont have as much stuff to look for. it all stacks up and there isnt some midseason miracle cure since we have tried almost all available oline combinations.
its almost like when you can protect the qb or have a threat to run the ball its easier for a qb to find open recievers, go figure.

weather was fine btw, i was at the game. overcast and a strong breeze occasionally but hardly any rain and nothing more than a light sprinkle for no more than a minute during the game. looked bad but wasnt any issue
|2 weeks 5 days ago||we throw screens, middle||
we throw screens, middle screens to funchess, comeback reciever screens to gallon, throwback screens to fitz. teams are beating us with 4 man rushes and with the blitzes. Borges is trying everything he can to slow down the pass rush, max protect doesnt work, going 4 wide works some times but gardner still gets pressured or nobody gets open.
|3 weeks 8 hours ago||yes why should we play the||
yes why should we play the experienced upperclassmen who are consistent in their play, know the schemes and have spent upto 4 more years growing and in a college conditioning program when we have this 5-star freshman who i read on the internet was supposed to be the next (insert famous player at same position).
|3 weeks 1 day ago||coaches call plays that they||
coaches call plays that they are comfortable with their players trying to execute.
our players struggle at executing basic plays
why would more complex counters/reads/constraints be expected to work any better?
|3 weeks 5 days ago||yes people were talking about||
yes people were talking about molk, he was on the preseason watch list for the rimmington i believe. he was also a multi year starter who helped denard gain his 1700? yds rushing the year before. not like he was some scrub who hadnt done anything before.
|4 weeks 1 day ago||regarding the band playing over the penalty chant||
pasquale told always told us in hockey band that the reason we had to play over it was so the games could be on TV. The athletic department apparently frowned upon broadcasting CHUMPDICKWUSSDOUCHEBAGASSHOLEPRICKCHEATERBITCHSLUUUUTCOOOCKSUCKER to televisions around michigan so we had to try and drown it out. The upside is now those of us who arent in michigan can watch the games more often (super pumped for B1G season when almost all the games are on tv and i dont have to stream it).
|4 weeks 6 days ago||I think the only reason state||
I think the only reason state fans get upset about "walmart wolverines" is because us as michigan fans constantly try to establish our superiority over them. they seem to use it to try and bring down our fan base as a whole pointing out those of us who dont fit the profile we try to highlight, the profile of the leader, the "best". But really they have fans that didnt go to their school, just like how a lot of us a slippery rock fans despite never attending The Rock. Fans follow a school for a variety of reasons and we shouldnt care about why somebody is a fan.
|5 weeks 13 hours ago||i think its more the other||
i think its more the other entries are over a 12 year period while hokes is only the last 2 1/2 years. thats a much smaller sample size to compare too, and it isnt like we have been blown out on the road they have been close games that just dont end up going our way.

from what i recall when the pats released him, he was being paid quite a bit for a punter and wasnt really producing very much. i doubt they would cut a player because he took an internship but it certainly wouldnt help him stay on the team
|5 weeks 1 day ago||they slowed down indiana||
they slowed down indiana better than we could. maybe they arent the best defense in the country but they seem to be pretty close to the top from what i've seen in the few state games I have seen this year. I'd be interested to see what those other schools averages are with the state game removed I'd assume most of the averages jump up at least some.
|6 weeks 2 days ago||he had every chance to||
he had every chance to succeed at michigan just never put it all together. also its not like he was the giants choice to start they have had like billions running back injuries and cox is last man standing basically since he was playing special teams i think, maybe practice squad. hopefully he will take this chance and run with it.

i agree, versatility is his biggest asset. hope big Al can get some creative juices flowing to get funchess involved.
|7 weeks 6 days ago||i think peralta at shortstop||
i think peralta at shortstop vs peralta in left is better for peralta, he'sbeen playing the position for years and we need his bat in the lineup. obviously iggy is better defensively but i think kelly in left with peralta at ss is marginally better for the team as a whole. i wonder why kelly is getting the start over dirks, havent been following super close this season but my impression was dirks was rather solid all season and kelly is better off the bench as a defensive replacement.

|8 weeks 2 days ago||i was in the band and in 2011||
i was in the band and in 2011 in east lansing they honored their baseball team for something and some of them spit on some picc players as they walked past us. then after they won their team ran over to the band and basically taunted the trumpet section in the same way raiola did here. so yeah it could be worse, if your in the band you can be seen as a pretty easy target. this is relatively mild in comparison
|8 weeks 2 days ago||they have a very diverse play||
they have a very diverse play book, so some pro stuff some shotgun stuff. its more like nfl style offenses kinda like the pats since obrien used to be a coordinator for them.
|8 weeks 2 days ago||uuuuhhhhhh||
we should have been happy to win those three games, it took a miracle comeback to beat wisconsin (who turned out to be not so great). mixing up the offense wouldnt have done anything except put more pressure on the terrible oline in prostyle sets trying to get push. the only game we should have won was toledo if not for that pick six and the missed field goal to tie at the end. other than that we got STOMPED most of the season.
