Seth on The Only Colors
Oren Basse, my old bunkmate from camp, is now one of the writers for TOC, and one of the guys trying to rebuild that site into a not-toxic arm of the toxic-as-hell online MSU fanbase.

As you can see from the comments, he's got a very long way to go.

You linked TOC? Enjoy Bolivia!
October 20th, 2023 at 3:06 PM ^
He linked Seth on TOC. I'm sure there's probably an exception for that.
Edit: Oh shit, I just realized it was Seth that created the post. Ok, send him to Bolivia. But only after he completes the MSU UFR.
October 20th, 2023 at 3:10 PM ^
Must've missed that Seth himself posted the link ;P
October 20th, 2023 at 3:11 PM ^
Yep, right over my head.
October 20th, 2023 at 3:16 PM ^
Your edit is exactly why you're one of my favorite commenters on here
October 20th, 2023 at 4:55 PM ^
Right back at you!
October 20th, 2023 at 3:33 PM ^
Doesn't matter. Still Bolivia.
October 20th, 2023 at 11:14 PM ^
And the UFR for our title game victory.
October 20th, 2023 at 2:42 PM ^
MSU fans not as good at picking up the 45-23 jokes (understandably so)
October 20th, 2023 at 2:44 PM ^
I can think of 3-9 reasons for that
October 20th, 2023 at 2:55 PM ^
They might have 2-10 reasons after this season is over
October 20th, 2023 at 2:43 PM ^
"trying to rebuild that site into a not-toxic arm of the toxic-as-hell online MSU fanbase." You have to admire those who try to do the impossible. It gives me faith in humanity
October 20th, 2023 at 3:05 PM ^
Vannini did a fair job of it.
October 20th, 2023 at 2:43 PM ^
Sparty gonna Sparty.
October 20th, 2023 at 4:08 PM ^
And Sparty gonna Spart.
October 20th, 2023 at 2:43 PM ^
I'm glad I clicked the link. The Q&A is very good. I was pleased that Seth immediately conflated the sign stealing to the burgers and shut that shit down.
October 20th, 2023 at 2:45 PM ^
Good stuff in the actual article, but I have my doubts there's enough rational fans at MSU to sustain a site that doesn't just pander to idiots.
Heck, give a look back at some of the early Mel Tucker posts and the fans are either blaming Tracy or wishcasting for Urban Meyer.
October 20th, 2023 at 2:45 PM ^
what a small world...Oren Basse and I travelled in similar circles in high school. Wouldn't call him a good friend, but definitely someone i've spent some time around.
October 20th, 2023 at 2:45 PM ^
Just whatever you do, do not read the comments!
October 20th, 2023 at 2:51 PM ^
9 comments in 5 hours seems very tame to me.
October 20th, 2023 at 3:25 PM ^
I have to assume TOC's traffic is 90% gameday threads because I looked at some of those comment counts and it's paltry.
October 20th, 2023 at 3:03 PM ^
I read the comments. Apparently Michigan fans are toxic...
October 20th, 2023 at 3:52 PM ^
Every one of their miserable lives would be perfect if not for Michigan, just ask them.
October 20th, 2023 at 4:10 PM ^
Mea culpa. I'm one of those nefarious Michigan fans who notices things like MSU assaulting people and MSU paying Tugger buckets of money and . . .
... I'd go on but it's toxic.
October 20th, 2023 at 2:48 PM ^
The great thing is, now that the story has broke, everybody will change their signs so that they don't have to worry about it. So any claim that Michigan is secretly cheating will have no merit. So if it wasn't crystal clear that games were being played straight up before, it is now.
It's a win for everybody!
October 20th, 2023 at 3:27 PM ^
The timing right before we hit our big games could actually work out pretty well, in that sense!
October 20th, 2023 at 4:39 PM ^
Hawt Take:
Michigan leaked the story themselves so teams have to change their signals the week they they play Michigan. That way Michigan can profit off of their miscommunication.
October 20th, 2023 at 2:50 PM ^
I truly hope the internet has preserved TOC's 2016 season predictions. Absolute gold.
I'm also pretty sure they literally stopped writing articles about football by early November and just acted like it was only basketball season.
October 20th, 2023 at 3:17 PM ^
Enjoy some laughs on a chilly, wet October afternoon!
October 20th, 2023 at 5:46 PM ^
This quote is great
An elite program doesn't have bad seasons. Dantonio and Mark Hollis have built an s̶y̶s̶t̶e̶m̶ empire that is built to churn out new polished talent each year. Down years aren't accepted for the frontrunners of college football, and Coach D seems to have figured out the formula to assure that doesn't happen.
October 20th, 2023 at 3:31 PM ^
TOC does that almost every year except 2021. They have also had the writers just leave midseason or had seasons where non-Spartan fans are the main writers just to get content up there.
October 20th, 2023 at 3:13 PM ^
And I think of Seth as the guy who says the importance of beating Sparty is to achieve silence.
October 20th, 2023 at 3:16 PM ^
You pulled no punches in being polite and just telling the other side what they wanted to hear, which is how a lot of these "Scouting XYZ team with XYZ insider" go.
Congratulations on founding MGoBlog?
October 20th, 2023 at 4:08 PM ^
I think he fixed that finally. He's also talking to some of the replyers. Oren's a good dude.
October 20th, 2023 at 3:29 PM ^
Seth: We are the same people who live in the same area and interact daily in a friendly way, we just cheer for different college teams. I am going to attend the game and respect the rivalry in a friendly way just like we did at the basketball game last year
Comments: Seth is a fat loser and mgoblog is full of toxic assholes
WTF?
October 20th, 2023 at 3:56 PM ^
*** Edit - not mean as a reply here ***
October 20th, 2023 at 4:00 PM ^
He's saying the online Sparty fanbase is toxic. Any visit to Red Cedar or MSU Twitter circles will show you that. Not saying UM fans are angels but it seems a lot worse stuff is coming from their side. (i know i know I'm clearly biased lol)
But in person? Completely different story. No sense in giving into the toxicity. He'll go to the game supporting his team and not looking around constantly for batteries to come flying at his head because he knows your average MSU fan is just a normal person who roots for the other major team in the state.
October 20th, 2023 at 3:57 PM ^
I'll leave this one comment (as a relative outsider to all the U-M/MSU stuff where, yes, both sides need to be better, IMO) and then I'll shut the fuck up:
I think it's unnecessary and non-magnanimous --- after saying "What I’m not going to do is give air to toxicity" over THERE ---- to over HERE, in this post, make reference to the "toxic-as-hell online MSU fanbase."
October 20th, 2023 at 4:11 PM ^
I mean, you haven't been online today have you. There isn't a more toxic team community in sports than RCMB, and the fact that Oren is trying to build a community that isn't like them speaks directly to what I was talking about, and to the kinds of fans I was talking to.
You don't deal with toxic people by ignoring their existence. You deal with them by showing them they have no power.
October 20th, 2023 at 4:13 PM ^
You're right! Instead both fan bases should be pointing out the toxicity of PSU fans!
Oh, wait. That's not what you meant? Sorry.
Sincerely,
ATM (Another Toxic Michigan) comment
October 20th, 2023 at 4:20 PM ^
I know the online PSU community well from doing We Are! books with them for a few years. They're the opposite of RCMB.
October 20th, 2023 at 4:07 PM ^
Nice. Thanks, Seth.
October 20th, 2023 at 5:25 PM ^
LOL at their dumbass comment section. The only way in which its not the RCMB is in quantity. Good luck to Oren Basse.
October 20th, 2023 at 6:39 PM ^
The comment section seems extremely tame?
October 20th, 2023 at 6:48 PM ^
i like seth. is that ok?
October 20th, 2023 at 10:25 PM ^
Great conversation, and kudos to both Seth and Oren for a respectable effort. The comments though? Oh the toxicity. Like one of our game threads.
October 21st, 2023 at 6:41 AM ^
I couldn't read it. The article kept moving.
October 21st, 2023 at 11:12 AM ^
Would have loved to read this but on mobile the site jumped every two seconds trying to load more and more ads
