Harbaugh back according to Schefter

Jim Harbaugh called Michigan to inform the school that, despite interviewing with the Vikings today, he will be returning to school for the 2022 season, sources tell ESPN. Michigan was, in the words of one source, “elated” to get Harbaugh’s decision.

Well this is awkward
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:28 PM ^
Yeah. The fanbase already threw all his clothes out in the front yard.
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:45 PM ^
Even though I would’ve had zero animosity if he left, this comment is gold, Jerry. Gold.
February 2nd, 2022 at 9:06 PM ^
Yep. Fuck everyone that said fuck him or upvoted it.
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:29 PM ^
What for? I understand people are irritated he took a while to decide this, but he *was* doing his job in the meantime, including significant recruiting and hiring staff.
I'm not going to make people not be frustrated that he took a while to figure this out, and I will concede that doing an interview on signing day is unquestionably bad optics no matter what the circumstances, but Harbaugh got a chance to explore NFL options and they were either closed off or he decided he likes it here.
And that doesn't bother me.
Caveat: I'm not going to be 100% sure until a new deal is announced. Schefter is good, but we've seen this week he's not perfect.
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:36 PM ^
The only way Harbaugh didn’t leave is if the Vikings/GM and his Stanford connect didn’t give him the offer if you believe the reports. But it seemed like said offer was already on the table and the interview was a formality.
Maybe the Flores stuff did change the dynamic?
Edit: Nvm they're going with a 36 year old white guy, Rams OC.

You can always be counted on to spew a whole bunch of dumb shit.

So ageism

Double post

Welcome back, Jim but this whole fucking thing has been...
February 2nd, 2022 at 8:11 PM ^
I feel like the only program-appropriate way to celebrate this is for someone to call for his firing.
February 2nd, 2022 at 9:32 PM ^
Lol, here ya go

Why do people not think that this was a contract-leveraging strategy?
He took a huge paycut, and despite the actual necessity of the money, coaches/players DO like to have big contracts (as much as people might think otherwise, humans involuntarily assign value to price tags despite actual real-world utility--think expensive watches, diamonds, sports cars, and yes contract numbers).
Not to mention Michigan does seem to like to pride themselves on their "standards", and strive for student-athletes to be no exception. In light of that, whatever absolute and unforseen chaos this NIL is sure to bring, I'm positive Harbaugh wants to remain as competitive as possible (let's be real, what many SEC schools do, Michigan simply won't do, and the NIL may have a chance to at least play some catch up--not that anything knows anything at this point), and Michigan, the Academic institution also might not want to get get mired up in that (also understandable), but Harbaugh is surely no less competitive than anyone else on the planet, so it isn't crazy to think he wants carte blanche, and I certainly wouldn't blame him.
Hell, the Vikings decision may very well have come also come down to carte-blance versus UM's offerings--it's not like at the pro-level there aren't any less of egos, just different rule-sets/strategies/skillsets.
Either way, I wouldn't be so upset. Harbaugh likes to win, and has chosen to always put himself in that position above all else (hence previous paycuts, fights with 49ers nepotistic brass, refs, post-and game honesty lol), and if that means Michigan, then it's going to be Michigan.

I was wrong again!
Excellent news. Pay him and focus on winning.
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:45 PM ^
Also he won't be doing this again. He's done interviewing with the NFL. Itch scratched
February 2nd, 2022 at 8:10 PM ^
It will be interesting, someday, to hear more details about what's transpired in this saga.
February 2nd, 2022 at 9:44 PM ^
This wins the day for me.

yeah, raj has great tweets
February 2nd, 2022 at 10:41 PM ^
Time to put focus on vast improvement on the interior D Line.
Then building a much better passing game.
Be a National Championship contender!
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:46 PM ^
I agree, pay the man whatever he wants.
But I want to see a massive buyout in his contract. Like enough to make any NFL owner think twice. Otherwise we're doing this again next year.

The roller coaster continues

No, the roller coaster ride is over.
February 2nd, 2022 at 8:19 PM ^
The Beast at kings island was the worst 4 minutes and 10 seconds of my roller coaster life. After this month long roller coaster "The beast " is the 2nd worst roller coaster experience of my life
February 2nd, 2022 at 8:40 PM ^
OH MY GOD, THAT RIDE WAS AWFUL. So glad I'm not the only one who thought that.
February 2nd, 2022 at 8:45 PM ^
What in the world?! You didn't like the Beast?
February 2nd, 2022 at 8:58 PM ^
Your first mistake was doing coasters at Kings Island. You go to Cedar Point for coasters. CP is about the only thing in Ohio worth mentioning.
February 2nd, 2022 at 9:28 PM ^
Mean streak sucked too. Haven't been to cedar point since 05ish.
February 2nd, 2022 at 10:22 PM ^
Mean Streak was brutal. The Steel Vengeance which replaced it is one of the best coasters out there
February 3rd, 2022 at 12:46 AM ^
Shivering Timbers would like a word with you…I actually enjoyed the ride, but there were moments when I wanted a copy of the most recent safety inspection
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:28 PM ^
But Balas doesn't throw this stuff out there lightly!
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:32 PM ^
Exactly. This at least confirms Balas doesn’t know shit.
February 2nd, 2022 at 10:22 PM ^
High upside, nonexistent downside. Can't beat that deal.
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:51 PM ^
I fell for it. Balas may be more Yoder than Sam
February 2nd, 2022 at 8:35 PM ^
What I wasn't saying in this post is that the primary reason to doubt Balas was because someone in Schembechler who is really close to the situation was saying otherwise after that report and as late as this morning. Balas was way out over his skis on this one.
February 2nd, 2022 at 9:29 PM ^
So this person, where they thinking it wasn’t a done deal Vikings would offer, or that Harbaugh would accept?
February 2nd, 2022 at 9:40 PM ^
The former. The owners weren't as convinced as the GM.
EDIT: to clarify, that was before the interview. No idea what went on tonight. Sneaking suspicion (based purely on speculation) the Wilfs might have been concerned enough to pick up the phone and talk to Jed York. If that happened... game over. But I prefer to think JH just had an epiphany about where he belongs.
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:28 PM ^
One things for sure - John U. Bacon got another book coming after this
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:28 PM ^
This is good news!! ..???
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:31 PM ^
Well, it's news. My question - with him wanting to return to the NFL. are we going to go through the same BS again next year when NFL HC positions open up ? Stay tuned
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:37 PM ^
Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) Tweeted:
Jim Harbaugh told Warde Manuel that this would not be a re-occurring issue and he would stay at Michigan as long as it wants him, per sources.
February 2nd, 2022 at 8:31 PM ^
Take the man for his word
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:35 PM ^
Anyone else find themselves disappointed for some reason?
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:49 PM ^
Uh…not at all. This would be awful timing to get a new coach and I would not be elated exactly to promote from within. Plus I would really like to see how he can build off this season. Maybe he can get the upper hand against Day? Maybe JJ is the real deal, which if he is I want to see Harbaugh with an elite QB. The game against Georgia may have essentially been over when he was given the nod but we did look better with him in there. I don’t think Georgia had stopped playing at that point.
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:53 PM ^
Not me, I like having him as coach. I do hope this isn’t a yearly occurrence though.
February 2nd, 2022 at 7:57 PM ^
Nope.. best thing for continuity!
February 2nd, 2022 at 8:10 PM ^
Nope. I'm looking forward to him building on what he did this past season. I hope this all gave him a renewed sense of motivation. And I don't really care what the reason was for him coming back -- him not taking the job or the Vikings not officially offering. The upheaval of bringing in another coach is vastly worse than the worst case scenario (the Vikings not offering him a job that he wanted). He's not perfect but I want to see what he's going to do next.
February 2nd, 2022 at 9:27 PM ^
I am not disappointed. I thought he was gone and had settled myself into that. And I wasn't excited about any of the mentioned replacement candidates, so this is actually a better outcome than I saw coming...
