Chris Simms calls Harbaugh a Jerk in Interview [Today's HARBAUGH thread]

Submitted by TyWheatley6 on January 22nd, 2022 at 5:40 AM

In an interview on the Dan Patrick show, Chris Simms called Harbaugh a jerk and accused him of making up the NFL offers to hype himself up...and if it wasn't enough, he also claims he could take Harbaugh in a fight.  “He’s a scary SOB, and he’s weird, and he’s tough, there’s no doubt. But he’s not taking me now at my age.”    So...I guess some people never grow up.

Sims is a fucking dolt.  He's one of the leading "football guys" who is extremely threatened by the rise of analytics and the increased importance of brains vs the good-old-days when iit was 99% brawn.

If you listen to him for five minutes you'll hear him rail on scary things like using data to make more informed decisions and why punting on 4th & 1 on the opponents 38 yard line is really a good coaching move.  He would totally support the prevent defense, establishing the run to set up the pass and time of possession as a key metric even though anyone who can hit double digets on the Wonderlic discarded that thinking years ago.

Consider the source.  He's an idiot.

I don't recall JH directly commenting on a possible NFL move.

Also do not believe he is ever purposely a jerk, but do believe he resides somewhere on the edge of the spectrum and he is certainly quirky at any given moment.

If Harbaugh is “making up NFL offers” it’s more than a little odd that there isn’t a single person who has run to the media with a report of “Jim Harbaugh personally told me that the (insert random NFL team here) are interested in him.”

Chris, show us on the doll where Jim Harbaugh hurt you.

Seems like he’s the Illinois of sportscasters. Most fans ask “Who?” when they hear his name, while he probably thinks he’s important enough in the sports media world for Harbaugh to pay attention to. He once crossed paths with Harbaugh years ago (think 89’ March madness) and believes that makes him relevant (a rival) to anything Michigan or Michigan player or coach related, meanwhile no one who roots for, plays for, or coaches Michigan even thinks about him, let alone gives him the time of day, and that just makes him even angrier about that “one time” and so he doubles down on his importance to anything Harbaugh or Michigan related.

Jim probably turned down an interview with him, and not personally but through a GA in the Michigan athletic media department.

So Florio, Rapoport, Pat McAfee and other NFL insiders get their info from Harbaugh when they report the Raiders are interested in him?  That makes total sense.
Simms is an asshat.

Chris Simms is the same guy who said Brady was washed and barely a top 15 QB in the league back in 2014. And then he doubled down in 2015.

They guy is a hack and made the most out of being his father's son.

lol yeah sure, Chris. Tell that to everyone’s “sources” who claim that Harbaugh to the NFL are a done deal and ask them if it’s made up. I’m sure that will go over well.

Whatever Jim Harbaugh is - if that is the best example that Simms can use to back up his rhetoric, he is just another butt-hurt journalist looking for clicks.

I’m pretty sure there are a number of coaches who think coach Harbaugh is a jerk (Schwartz, Neuheisel, Carroll, Beamer, Day) so not really a surprise.  Whatever, it really doesn’t matter to me.

As it has been explained a few times elsewhere (including edited into the OP of yesterday's Harbaugh thread) we're designating the first viable Harbaugh thread as "Today's Harbaugh Thread"  in an effort to cut down the clutter of multiple threads. A few days ago over a 24-hour period, 5 of the 9 most recent threads were nothing but Harbaugh snowflake posts.

Not digging the sticky method thus far and here is an example why:

My "fluff" contribution (actual reports but not moving the needle much) today is that the Raiders boards are reporting on the various GMs they have been interviewing... which strongly implies that Jim would not be offered both HC & GM positions as some have speculated he would want.

Yet the majority of comments that are flooding this sticky are about Chris Simms.  A lot of junk to filter through to see if anything of interest is in here.

Thanks for the feedback.

Like I posted several places, including the META thread, the mod sticky, and elsewhere, we're adjusting/tweaking on the fly, but we do intend to still stay with the basic idea.  And as I said above, a few days ago over a 24-hour period, 5 of the 9 most recent threads were little more than individual snowflakes rehashing over and over very similar discussions/arguments. Frankly, that's the overkill we needed to address.

Seth, I, and the other mods can spend only so much time, but more importantly, we know that this is relatively short-term until Harbaugh signs a contract somewhere.

Then it's on to the celebration or the fallout...

You guys take this shit way too seriously.  Chris Simms is one of the better and smarter football guys these days.  Attacking him for not being good enough is petty.  All of what he says and what this headline says has context and nuance to it

Chirs Simms went my rival high school and after beating us ran up o the student section and cursed them out. I will now and forever, as the proud Marauder I am, say fuck Chris Simms.

In today's climate, Michigan football (Warde) needs to make a public statement about the "physical threats of violence" against Harbaugh and 82 year old Jack Harbaugh by Patrick and Simms.

Talking about "taking a guy".

Dan Patrick has never been in fight in his life - - you can tell.

He's the guy at the bar who "watches".

Why would he ask that question?

What if some wacko takes a swing at Jack Harbaugh while at the local Kroger?

This is a VERY bad look for Patrick and Simms.

Patrick's show needs to be CANCELLED and also BOTH Chris and Phil from TV.

They're rich enough - they are DONE.

Name any other college head football coach that sustains this type of media abuse?

If Chris Simms is ever pre-game or broadcasting a Michigan game, the entire fan-base should boycott.

What a bunch of sassholes.

Go Blue.

Let us not forget that Danny P is an Ohio guy.  Love all the comments.  It does crack me up to see those who are stuck in mediocrity making a living off of criticizing those who have actually climbed the mountain.  See: Kirk Herbstreit.

Chris Simms has done zero with his career as a player, and is only a sportscaster with a so called voice due to his last name.  He routinely takes shots at people who have helped him…what year was he born a again?

I'm sure Davis was interested in Harbaugh but it looks like Raiders  have loss interest in Harbaugh.over the past couple of weeks. Only other outside chance would be Chicago but I doubt the Bears will pick Harbaugh. I'm happy that it looks like Harbaugh will be staying at Michigan.

Chris Simms has some strange disorder where he regularly acts on his need to trash successful people. His taeks on Brady and Belichick, for example are…interesting.  I don’t necessarily think this is Florio poisoning, as Chris’ spectacular ability to flame out of two careers where his dad succeeded has to weigh heavily on a guy.

I mean, he made it to the NFL and started some games. That's a lot more than many other past sports stars kids accomplished in their dads' sport.

I believe he is probably telling the truth about this.

He is also a terrible television personality. I would rather watch commercials than he and Dungy together. Zero charisma or rapport.

Rumors Matt Rhule would take the job are floating around (would link, but the site is not allowing it today). Turned around Temple and Baylor, which was in a seemingly-fatal tailspin, into 10+ win programs. Don’t know much about him otherwise, save for being a Nittany Lion, who just locked up Franklin for a decade or so.

F U Chris - He is our jerk and we want to keep him.

I actually don't think Coach is a jerk.  What other Coach donated big bucks to his support staff?  None!

The current head coach of the Carolina Panthers and did a hell of a job, imo, with Baylor after the Briles scandal. This would be a hell of a replacement and would be us walking into our own version of Tressel to Urban.

I personally don’t want Harbaugh to leave, but this would be best case scenario if true

Turned around Temple too. I know little about him, but people were complaining about him in the other thread. Anyone care to explain the beef? By the numbers, a guy who has turned around two programs with seemingly insurmountable problems is as good as it gets, but obviously, if he has baggage, that’s a consideration.
