Mattison walks in on meeting between Narduzzi, McDowell
On the first day contact was allowed during the latest recruiting period under NCAA rules, Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi, Michigan defensive coordinator Greg Mattison and Alabama assistant Bobby Williams were patiently biding their time at the school.
McDowell arrived at school, entered a tiny office and sat against the left wall in the middle of a row of chairs. At a small round table, Narduzzi began speaking, talking about football, about life, about his future in both areas — the door closed for just the two of them.
“Michigan State was here, then Michigan came, they just walked right in and sat down,” McDowell said. “That was pretty funny. I was just sitting there watching … (Coach) Narduzzi was sitting right here. It just all stopped. Then (Mattison) was like, ‘Oh, is this a bad time?’ It made me laugh.”

and classless. A couple might acknowledge that it took balls, but most would probably act like it was a mortal sin. Thus is fandom.

It's not nearly as big of a deal as you think. Mattison did something funny, and it was over. It's just personality, not a big deal.

You see it as funny but it was in fact rude. Personality or lack of respect? Mattison pulled an asshole move.

maybe Mattison believes the ends justify the means?

This is from the Lincoln Journal Star -- Regarding Bo Pelini and George O'Leary showing up at a recruit's house at the same time (emphasis mine).
So if you're going to take the journey, you best do it with some humor.
And you'd have to say it's somewhat humorous when Bo Pelini shows up at the doorstep of a Central Florida commit at the same time as Central Florida coach George O'Leary... We know this happened on Tuesday thanks to Twitter, and a tweet from the recruit both coaches showed up to see.
"Coach pelini and coach o'leary came at the exact same time... #fireworks #bumpinheads" tweeted defensive tackle Jamiyus Pittman.

The exerpts that you used don't talk about a coach knowingly interrupting another and those two schools are not rivals. The part on humour looks like it is from the author's mind and not from a coach otherwise it should be cited as such. I do appreciate what you did as opposed to name calling and making nonsensical opinions out to be facts.

You are basing this on a single snippet in an article, with no background and no follow-up, speaking of making nonsensical opinions out to be fact.

the situations are different... That wasn't the point. Recruiting is a blood sport. It pays to have a good sense of humor, that's all.

His opinion matters. Yours, not so much. These coaches know each other and by now they know the recruits pretty well too. Give Mattison a little credit for knowing how his little stunt would be received.

maybe the allotted 45 min were up and that was mattison's humorous way of letting them know. is the alternative to let him keep going as long as he wants?

I find the longer you do something the more you allowed to say almost anything you want. I bet Narduzzi thought it was funny too and wished he could have said it. I suspect there was more to the story like Narduzzi getting 30 minutes and then going over his time allotment..

Still, she remains in the Seattle area and free. For the time being. It will be interesting to see if a US courts will allow an extradition in the face of her having once been acquitted and thus facing double jeapordy. I don't see it happening.

If there isn't some relationship between Narduzzi and Mattison. I am sure Mattison wouldn't have come in if he thought there was a chance he'd get decked in the face or bad mouthed for it later on.

WTF is the deal with Narduzzi still coaching at MSU? Why isn't he the head coach somewhere else by now? What, is he waiting for Saban to retire?

that Mattison actually think Narduzzi is a hell of a defensive coach. I doubt he was disrespecting him. He was just being a ballsy jokester.

Mattinson is the man ! Theres not a D cordinator out there id take over him.
January 31st, 2014 at 7:53 PM ^
I think people can spin this a lot of different ways to either look good or bad. We only have a little information to go by, so no one really knows if Mattison purposely interrupted Narduzzi or not. Also, I too am curious where people are reading that this is a race between everyone else, but Michigan. The little information I have gathered is that no one knows one way or another how this will turn out. I am keeping my hopes up; and I am also happy with the group we have committed to us currently.
