OSU prez Gordon Gee is an embarrassment [LOCKED]
Gordon Gee's greatest hits from the AP. Gee riffs on ND, Catholics, Polish, SEC, Kentucky, Louisville, and the Little Sisters of the Poor:

Mod edit: Grumble, grumble, nice things, grumble. JGB.
I found this quite amusing:
"You tell the SEC when they can learn to read and write, then they can figure out what we're doing," Gee said, when asked by a questioner how to respond to SEC fans who say the Big Ten can't count because it now has 14 members.
Wait a minute. I thought they were a cash business. Paper leaves a trail.
He was the chancelor of Vanderbilt.
He made these comments in a smaller Ohio setting. But if you are in a leadership position, you need to assume that anything you say, whether meant to be public or private, will come out in the public sphere.
Were this coming from anyone else, I'd be surprised...
Never mind I refuse to visit Bolivia.
names will most certainly put the thread back on the right track.
I actually don't have any problems with this. I appreciate his candor in today's world of stifling political correctness.
I agree with you on this, to an extent. I think he was playing to the crowd a bit, and I found it funny. But he did show a bit of malice towards a specific group of people, moreso than I would be comfortable doing as the head of a public entity. If he was the CEO of a private company, I'd think it was 100% funny. Not so much when he's the head of a public institution and being derogatory towards a religious group.
(Speaking of religion, there is a separation of church and blog rule, so you'll want to remove your avatar. Also, no speaking of religion.)
...is a religion.
The line about "holy on Sunday, holy hell the rest of the week" was pretty funny.
I would have appreciated it more if he had made a moonshine joke when asked about Kentucky.
The guy is an asshole and ohio state fans should feel humiliated that their president would make comments like those in a public forum. You want to say stuff like that in private, go ahead--only the people you are talking to will see you are a jerk. You say stuff like that in a public forum when you represent a university, and you are way off base. How would you feel if Coleman went around dhooting her mouth off like Gee does? Would you admire her candor?
DOWN WITH YOUR ROMAN POPERY!!!!
His comments sound like the blather of a senile drunk.
I mean he is considered by most in the academic world to be a top 5 university president, (I don't know how people rank these things but when they do he is there). Yeah sure some of his comments were dumb but apparently he is doing something right and I personally don't have any problems with anything he said.
I think he's considered to be a top 5 fundraiser. Never heard about him being an excellent president overall other than because he makes OSU a lot of cash. We all know PR isn't his strong suit
a lifeline Gee.
It is not a matter of political correctness it is a matter of bigotry. I am not a catholic, hell I am not sure there is even a god, but singling out a religion when you are head of a publicly funded university you should just close your mouth about other peoples religion. What would he have them do 4 year bowl ban and 40 less scholarships because the university leadership covered up the crime?
And, it looks bad when you're Pres. is taking cheap shots. Leave that to the students.
This is pure gold, aside from the religion part, which I don't particularly care about but could be offensive to some. He basically rips Notre Dame and the SEC, but looks like an ass doing it. It's really a double win for me. It's almost like we get to have our cake and eat it too!
Can anyone explain to me how this guy is still the head of a major public university? He walks around with his damn clown shoes on constantly, and all he gets is a "remediation plan"?
"He is a prolific fundraiser and is leading a $2.5 billion campaign at Ohio State."
People at OSU don't give a shit.
False.
Is this in regards to people at OSU not caring about him fundrasing and leading the 2.5 billion dollar campaign But for Ohio State? I think a majority of us do care.
I sure hope so. I guarantee you if MSC were opening her mouth like this there would be calls from alumni for her resignation.
MSC would be OUT. THE. FUCKING. DOOR.
no ifs ands or buts, done, end of her service, GOOD DAY SIR
Gordon Gee is the gift that keeps on giving the whole year.
Whether or not I'd be a biased OSU fan, I'd be embarrassed to see my school president saying things like that. I'm sure the school has its fair share of Catholic alums/donors. Now they're sitting there wondering if they want to donate to a school that has a jackass like this guy running the show.
"The Worst Flight in America" ?? - answer.
He should have invited Tiger Woods to dinner and shared his choice of dish with us.
Meh, off color but nothing offensive. He didn't pull a Dana Jacobson or anything.
would u just S T F U already? I mean in one way Im glad because this is the person "THE" Ohio State University has chosen to represent them....nuff said
I gotta say who cares. So some private meeting has now been made public? He was making some jokes, its not 100% kosher, but come on people have some fun.
I hate some of this stuff, including things like the Hoke chicken comment or other things said at a press conference. If people cannot be honest at times, then all you get is boring press conferences and prepared statements.
This isn't about honesty, its about bigotry. Someone with Dr. Gee's responsibility, education and position should not be spewing this kind of ignorance.
As a Catholic, I think it is completely inappropriate to take this kind of a cheap shot at anyone's religion. I don't think he would like if someone said "You can't trust the Mormons because they have multiple wives." Stereotyping people based on their religion isn't cool. And I dislike Notre Dame strongly but this is too far
Maybe I should join this convers...
But THIS one scares you off? Interesting.
Maybe I'm missing something here as folks seem to be really offended at what Gee said about Catholics. What exactly did he say that was so terrible? In bad taste, improper given his position, etc...yeah, get that...but the outrageous comments were what exactly?
