Michigan v. S. Dakota St. Postgame (Snowflakes) Thread
Wasn't always pretty until the end.
71-56 MICHIGAN!
3rd Round here we come!
Thoughts? Thoughts.
Really nice overall performance. Aside from Burke's cold shooting, this looked like the Michigan team of the 20-1 start. I hope Trey isn't too sore from his fall tomorrow, though.
GR3 hitting mid-range and 3 pointers, plus an active transition game in the 2nd half, made this team look like its old self. Remember how fun they can be to watch? That 2nd half was fun.

Jesus our conference is just going to roll through this tournament this year.

Yeah, all it took was for us to not having to keep playing the top 4 teams in the B1G and we look good again. Imagine thatThat doesn't explain our struggles against PSU.

buzzkill
Does it make me a bad guy that I hope Akron players give their flu to VCU's starting lineup?

if that could happen then they would probably give it to us too.
Coach B, Trey, Tim, Mitch on the podium right now

because it forced McGary, THJ, Stauskas, and GRIII to step up and they all did to varying degrees. I think it's big to get our offense into a place where other guys feel comfident and feel like they don't need to just stand and watch what Trey does. I honestly feel like that could make a huge impact on this team for the rest of the tournament
It seems we saw a bit of that old Beilein offense before he went all "PG dominate the ball" with Morris. I hope Burke sees, shot falling or not, he needs to get Robinson, Hardaway and/or Stauskas involved. I don't want to see him dribbling the air out of the ball, he's got too many threats on the floor to get into as many one-on-one battles as he does.
A LOT LESS WORRIED about this team now. This March is gonna be great!

His shot wasn't falling which seemed to make the rest of the offense more aggressive. I don't know how much of that was self-determination on the players part to pick him up, or Burke moving the ball around better. It might have been a halftime adjustment since Beilein talked about them not getting the looks they wanted in the first half and Robinson was much more aggressive after getting a few shots to fall after the break.

Michigan improves to 16-1 when Timmy scores 20 points!
Just a single loss back in his freshman year against Minnesota!

Hard away Jr or Craig Roh ?

I'll be honest - after the Big Ten tournament loss I wasn't feeling all that confident about the first round (though I didn't put it that tactfully). It was great to see how the rest of the guys stepped up when Burke had an off night. McGary in particular, considering this was only like, what, his third start all season?

Burke played the way most PGs don't when their shot isn't falling - he looked to distribute and get the rest of the offense going. There were a couple of drives in the 2nd half when he could have taken a contested shot but instead skipped balls to GRIII for three, which helped to stretch the lead early on. I've watched enough CBB to know that usually isn't how players respond to an 0-for-a-half, and yet Burke did it without any reservations. It's cliche, but that's real leadership; not slapping the floor on defense or screaming in the huddle.
Testament to this team that they won going away, but if I'm in that lockerroom I'm even happier that the win came with Burke not at his best. Bodes well for the next game.

There were a few green turds there but they were scared stoic. Saturday will be another story. .

Didn't read all the snowflakes, but mine is Mcgary's play. Not sure we win without him tonight. He was outstanding, especially on defense. His energy was contagious. He should start every game. He was the MVP tonight.

The guys moved/rotated well and kept SDSU from getting too many easy inside shots. Left a few guys open, but that happens.

He had one hell of a game and snapped out of his terrible funk. He looked great out there....tip of the cap to ya GR3.

Don't know if anyone has said it but Sports Illustrated's reason for Michigan losing to VCU in their bracket was exactly the opposite of what happened tonight. We can win without Burke.
"VCU locks down Trey Burke; teammates can't compensate"

I feel bad for Morgan.
March 21st, 2013 at 11:33 PM ^
Why, he haven't produced since he came back from his ankle injury. So right now he is a liability in offense and defense so you cant fault the HC. He did what he had to do.

I get starting McGary over Morgan. That is justifiable. But playing Horford for 15 minutes to Margan's 1? That I dont get. I have to assume Morgan is hurt/ill/being punished. If someone has already addressed this, I apologize.
that he missed that bunny vs indiana
He didn't play like a freshman last night, but looked like a man among boys out there with that performance. However, I noticed he started for the game. Is this the first time he's started or was it just something that happened because Morgan didn't play due to injury? IMO, I think Beilein should do this more often since McGary seems to bring more energy and hustle to the team starting vs. coming off the bench.
Last snowflake was that when Burke went out, I thought Stauskas and THJ did a good job of creating shots for themselves. I don't recall Stauskas doing this often but the move and attack he had to score showed his versatility (I'm use to him shooting lots of 3's). It showed a lot of determination for the team to step up in the brief absence of its leader when the lead was under 10. Great win Blue!
all things considered, I think it says a lot that the rest of the team stepped up when Trey was shooting worse than awful from the floor. The entire first half, McGary looked like he was born to play in the tournament, and Tim shot the lights out
