Gunner Kiel to ND?
January 16th, 2012 at 5:59 PM ^
Is this more than what was posted before, or more of the speculation?
January 16th, 2012 at 6:01 PM ^
Same stuff as the other thread, but it might warrant its own thread. But to sum, 2 sources say ND, 1 says LSU.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:03 PM ^
So in other words this means nothing
January 16th, 2012 at 6:06 PM ^
Exactly. And I'm not too worried about Kiel at ND. He can be the next Ron Pawlus, Brady Quinn, Jimmah Clausen or Dayne Crist. ND is where 5-star QBs go to suck.
January 16th, 2012 at 7:55 PM ^
Do you remember the bombast with which Charlie the Hutt was talking up the unholy union between him and Clausen? "After one practice with me, this kid will . . . . "
IMHO, the problem with the ND offense wasn't Clausen so much as Weis . . .
And as a fellow SoCal guy, yeah, I heard (friend of a friend kind of thing) that Jimmah was about the biggest dick on the planet, so it's not like I routinely stick up for the guy.
January 17th, 2012 at 12:58 AM ^
This kid is a joke.. Lsu or nd.. Lsd hereafter are both wild card head coaches.. Mad hatter or the man child bk will chew him up.. He looked like total shit in the bowl game ne way.. Let him flounder fuck him!
January 17th, 2012 at 12:00 PM ^
Sad thing is if he had stayed with his IU commit, IMHO the kid would have been a star. They'd have geared the whole O around him, got tons of coaches and plays for him and pulled in some receivers. He may have even started a bit of a turn-around for the whole program, and been the hero of his home state. I feel for the hosiers, I guess.
January 17th, 2012 at 11:27 AM ^
USA Today reports that Kiel is not enrolling at LSU, and will enroll at Notre Dame.
January 17th, 2012 at 11:47 AM ^
But apparently his parents want him closer to home. This according to ND message boards (blueandgold.com).
January 16th, 2012 at 6:05 PM ^
I bet he's going to be a good one! Purple People Eater will have fun with that head case.
January 16th, 2012 at 8:34 PM ^
Saw his 2 minute interview pre-game, was eloquent, solid, stated he was leaving for LSU "tomorrow, I love everyone down there, right place for me"
For him to change his mind from what I saw, and he seemed very sincere, I would be very curious to understand how LSU dropped the ball... Unless he finally woke up and discovered that 5 star QBs at LSU have the same chance of long-term succes as a Kardashian at a convent.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:05 PM ^
has to stop reading message boards.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:32 PM ^
So. Damn. Funny. Spit on legal pad. Starting on new sheet.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:07 PM ^
Ah yes ND, where promising QB's grow to become busts or transfers. Don't do it kid, Kelly will make you shit yourself on national TV as he does his best to restrain himself from ripping your arms off and shoving them up uranus. Go to LSU.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:11 PM ^
It's not as though LSU develops QB's much better than ND either. Offensive talent dies in Baton Rouge.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:15 PM ^
Well, they haven't had any Tom Brady's come through there, but JaMarcus Russell was an incredible college QB, and Matt Flynn is turning into a decent pro back-up (he looked like Aaron Rodgers in week 17 against the Lions).
January 16th, 2012 at 6:36 PM ^
I won't repost the whole thing, but here's a review of LSU QB commit rankings since Jamarcus Russell.
Gunner Kiel Commits To LSU (MGoBoard)
At least they win, which is more than ND QBs can say lately.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:12 PM ^
...but where is Yuri Wright going?
January 16th, 2012 at 6:15 PM ^
If this process is any indication....it ought to be fun watching how he makes decisions with pee wee bearing down on him.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:16 PM ^
You mean the decision whether to get up, or let the trainers cart him off the field?
January 16th, 2012 at 7:00 PM ^
Seems like that would fit perfectly with being a quarterback at ND.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:19 PM ^
GUNNER SIGN THE FUCKING L.O.I !!!!!!!
January 16th, 2012 at 7:03 PM ^
awesome.
January 16th, 2012 at 7:48 PM ^
I don't throw the "lol" phrase out very often; but I really did laugh out loud when I read this. You win this thread.
January 16th, 2012 at 8:24 PM ^
One of the better posts I've seen on the board lately...this is great.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:22 PM ^
If this guys goes through his reads like he goes through schools please let him play for ND!! He would have more completions to Countess than anyone else.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:25 PM ^
I really think thaat if not for Shane Morris, Michigan would have been the place that Gunner would've loved to end up.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:26 PM ^
Not the quality individual we look for. You don't want a kid who changes his commitment twice. He's not loyal. An attention hawk. His brother is also leaving Indiana. Could it be the second coming of the Forcier family?
January 16th, 2012 at 6:30 PM ^
why this comment was overrated. I think the comparison's to the Forcier's, based on current evidence is not totally inaccurate...
January 16th, 2012 at 7:05 PM ^
because Michigan has quite a few kids on the roster who were once committed to other schools, or does it only count if they decommitted twice?
Or perhaps people are disagreeing with his attack on a 17 year old's character for doing what 17 year olds often do..... changing their mind.
January 16th, 2012 at 7:20 PM ^
I have to admit, when I saw the thread title the first thing in my head was 'Tate?'.
Certainly unwarranted, but 'talented QB switching again' probably triggered it. Of course, switching committments as a high school senior is very different than switching schools because you flopped academically.
I hope they both end up on their feet.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:37 PM ^
He committed to IU because his family is close to there, but then realized what a shit show that program is. At least Minnesota seems like they could be heading in the right direction, IU has got to be the worst football program in the B1G
January 16th, 2012 at 8:06 PM ^
and another IU qb are both leaving the Hoosiers football team. Tougher times lie ahead in Bloomington.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:44 PM ^
Pardon my ignorance, but what is an "attention hawk"?
January 16th, 2012 at 6:27 PM ^
Think he wants to stay close to home
January 16th, 2012 at 6:32 PM ^
If he goes to ND, then I hope he's also this indecisive on where to throw the ball.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:33 PM ^
does this kid know what commitment means? Cheese and rice!
January 16th, 2012 at 6:33 PM ^
@ Gunner Kiel
January 16th, 2012 at 8:41 PM ^
Inconceivable! Laughed my ass off
January 16th, 2012 at 6:44 PM ^
Oh yeah, I heard he wants to follow in the footsteps of all those extremely successful Notre Dame quarterbacks who lead their teams to preseason top 25 rankings.
January 16th, 2012 at 7:53 PM ^
Zing! This comment IS so underrated.
January 16th, 2012 at 8:18 PM ^
...don't mind if I do!
January 17th, 2012 at 12:54 AM ^
January 16th, 2012 at 6:37 PM ^
make up his mind right now? I get what you're saying, but it seems people forget these are 17-18 year old kids - choosing a school based only on academics is easier (at least it was for me - send out apps, best school I get into - wins) But adding the athletics element to that decision has to be tough. Personally, I think too many people here have Shane Morrisitis. The phenomonon that everyone now thinks kids should commit 18 months before hand and become recruiters themselves.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:44 PM ^
The point of a commit means you are COMMITTED. That means that you are no longer interested in any other schools. If you aren't 150% positive you are going to go there then don't commit! You should make sure you want to be there if you commit and stick to your word.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:47 PM ^
Well, I disagree with you to some extent. Things can change, particularly if you commit early. No one (other than Indiana fans, I presume) faulted Kiel for decommiting back in October.
But I do think that this time is different. He only committed about two weeks ago. It doesn't seem like that much could have changed. Did LSU's performance in the NC game really have that big an impact? It seems more like he was undecided and shouldn't have made an announcement to begin with.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:54 PM ^
That is my point. he really didn't have a reason to commit to LSU if he was going to decommit anyway. He probally should of weighted it out. However I do somewhat agree with the whole Indiana thing.
January 16th, 2012 at 7:13 PM ^
Roundtree, Hayes, Bellomy, Kalis...
to name a few.........
Unbunch your panties and move on.
January 16th, 2012 at 7:30 PM ^
I don't think the point was that you shouldn't ever decommit under any circumstances, but he has not decommitted twice, the second time being very shortly after he committed.
And the guys you name are all special cases:
Roundtree (and Shaw) decommitted from their schools when RR came to UM. Same thing with Bellomy and Hoke. There was a major change at another school, and the switched their commitment.
Hayes decommitted from ND because (rumor has it) he felt that he was being pushed out of his commitment when he and his family were ignored on a visit. This was more of a mutual parting of ways.
With Kalis, the coach that recruited him was fired (kind of) and the school went through NCAA sanction craziness. Again, major change in circumstances warranted a reconsideration.
There have been no major changes with LSU or ND in the last month to warrant this. He's just changing his mind, which is OK, but he probably shouldn't have committed then.
January 16th, 2012 at 10:26 PM ^
All cases are special, at least in the mind of the recruit.
I guarantee that there have been and will be many more situations, some of which will seem ordinary, in which Michigan benefits from a recruit decommitting from another school to commit to Michigan.
