| 23 weeks 6 days ago | "Made us look silly" sums up |
"Made us look silly" sums up my exact feelings here. I hope UM sold close to zero of these abominations. Trying too hard to be Oregon-uni-cool and not achieving same is a failure worse than wearing non-descript unis. |
| 25 weeks 14 hours ago | This has been my view as |
This has been my view as well, very early in season, wanted DR out as QB due to turnover issues, and put in DG or the second string guy. Obvs second string was not a great idea, but DG earlier in the year may have saved Nebraska and the Div title. C'est la vie. Yes, on the offense side Al Borges is not up to acceptable levels as OC but talented players such as DG and DR who can make something out of nothing keep the impact of his hideous play calls and schemes relatively minimized until we see what we see in the second half of Ohio. |

In High School he was a cornerback on D - he was a 2 way starter - Urban wanted him with the Gators at corner.

| 29 weeks 2 days ago | I see your point & I am not trying to create heat just light |
... But I am frustrated at a lot of back-pedaling I hear/see on season expectations. I am first to admist I expected a 10-2 season. Not pleased. |
| 29 weeks 2 days ago | You could factor in a number |
You could factor in a number of items to say that people were spot on... You go down that track you could pro forma the season to 12-0. |
| 29 weeks 3 days ago | Patience? Sure, let me bury |
Patience? Sure, let me bury myself for another 11 years and come back and see if we have 1 win against OSU in those 11 years. Remember all those years under Carr with bad coaching and losing to OSU? it was always "1 more year" "get better recruits" "better playcalling" ... My friends the future is here. We're still losing. Posters calling for "rationality"... "balance" need to relax because if we had won you'd be whooping and hollering. Note for life: Don't get in front of a train. It will run you over. Mfan emotions are that train given the outcome. Rather than trying to be Mr. Sensible Michigan Man, just the let the emotion play out, come back. Otherwise, you're pissing in the wind and given your attitude, you'd probably patiently wait for the wind to stop blowing. |
| 29 weeks 3 days ago | Carr and Borges |
Your quote "First, there is no evidence that replacing a coordinator systematically leads to better results."
No, sticking with the current guy cause the unknown is too risky is not a good argument for Borges - at a minimum, it relies NOT on showing Borges' success but rather agreeing that he's not successful but that the other person - unknown - would be worse. So, your argument actually helps point out Borges lack of accomplishments. Could have been used to stick up for Carr. Wait, Carr got his butt handed to him by OSU on the regular with conservative play calls as his calling card. And he won the 97 MNC with Mo's recruits. |
| 29 weeks 3 days ago | For those who remember and |
For those who remember and were in the area in the 90s... Many OSU fans no longer considered it that much of a game before Coop was fired. They knew what each year brought and they were not pleased. So yes, on the OSU side they were pissed. All of you posting here didn't likely read the Columbus Dispatch in the 90s the Sundays post-UM/OSU. It was great TWIS, before the ...*pause for respect* The INTERNET.
So yes, lopsided streaks hurt both sides. |
| 29 weeks 3 days ago | Which shows Hokes value... |
Not a fan anymore. Not having someone take reps in practice ALL YEAR when your QB is injury prone blew the lid off the top for me. That's just complete insanity.
Then, going for it on 4th when you know that getting a few yards will be tough, and turning it over will likely give OSU a great scoring chance and the lead, was dumb, too.
I just can't anymore.
I am very close to saying that this UM-OSU is no longer a rivalry. Today should have been a second straight UM win, first time since the 90s!!! Now, I don't know... I know I am fed up with the excuses. |
| 29 weeks 3 days ago | Exactly... Look what Devin |
Exactly... Look what Devin did with the passing game since NEB.
But today - and I undersand better OSU D than prior competitors- he had success then that disastrous 2nd half. Sick of the constant losing.
HOKE - not Borges, Mattinson, this is on HOKE... He better win next year or that's 11/12 years that we've been beat. And then, really, is it a rivalry if we lose next year given the consistent losses? If you want to be rational, when 1 team beats another consistently, it may be a rivalry but lacks true outcome uncertainty. |
| 29 weeks 3 days ago | No my friend, without |
No my friend, without intelligence you can work 20 hours a day and still not get anywhere - go ahead and bet on the guy who puts in 20 hrs day and I will bet on the smart guy, whether that's 20 hours a day or 10 hours a day. Luck and Hard work are nothing without intelligence to execute. Today was not good execution. Nor was it good execution to have a woe-ful back-up for Denard at Nebraska. That was luck. hard-work or intelligence re the inability to have a back-up ready? In the second half we didn't get anywhere: 39 yards. Turnovers? If we were behind by 21 points, but our D and Mattison kept us in the game. It was woeful execution of offense. But hey don't take my word for it. I don't care what he did at Auburn - what has he done AT Michigan? 11-2 to 8-4. Your comment: "Who are the OC that could have made Denard a pocket passer?" Thas was Al B who tried this and frankly did NOT succeed. Remember Al saying Denard's an improved passer at the beginning of the year? Yes, he tried to make DR a pocket passer, limiting his runs. Your comment "Ok, so now we don't have a passer that fits his system?" So then why doesn't Al work with what he has? Your comment ""Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else." Ok.. So then why all the season long run straight ahead at the line of scrimmage plays? That's NOT being a first rate version of yourself. Sorry, I am not a RR guy so your comment that I like video game offenses is off-base. But in a world where blind hard work trumps intelligence, I would expect one to rely on blind effort rather than intelligent craftsmanship of an argument. |
| 29 weeks 3 days ago | A rivalry is a rivalry. Every |
A rivalry is a rivalry. Every man is entitled to his own opinion...
But in my book a rivalry is a rivalry.
If you want to play long-ball and count ALL the years, then we have to look at how we stunk it up recently.
10/11.
We must do better.
BTW, i will give them that sanction win cause I want the Fab Five banners back.
|
| 29 weeks 3 days ago | Good question |
The answer is officially 2010 was vacated but most importantly, to those of us older and who lived through Woody/Earle/Coop/Tress/Fick/Urbs WE HAVE BEEN BEATEN 10/11 years, sanctions or no.
UNACCEPTABLE.
We cannot accept that since Hoke arrived "Gee, it's 1-1 now". .. IMHO. We must Win, Win, Win. It's heartbreaking to think people view every year like a clean slate. Cause over 90% of the time for 11 years now it's been a horribe 364 days.

| 29 weeks 3 days ago | Al doesn't have the secret sauce, he's a B- Offensive Coord |
Turnovers were NOT the issue - the issue is when you had plays to run, what did you do with them? NOTHING in the 2nd half.
Al may be a "passable" OC but when you hire an employee, do you want the "passable" guy or the great guy?
You get 10 candidates, sure, 3 or 4 can do the job, but you want that 1 person.
Al ain't the guy we need. And that's fine, it's not an emotional thing.
Life isn't that hard, a lot of mediocre people make a lot of money and do well & b/c they're successful folks think they have a secret sauce, but in reality it was timing, luck or sheer hard work. Being a good OC isn't about hard work or luck, it's intelligence, and does Al have it?
Time to take a hard look at what Al is. Hype can take you to the top, but can someone stay their with talent/capabilities??? |

Oh, hey, yeah... we got drilled again, 10 yrs out of 11, but what about that Tressel guy. |
| 29 weeks 3 days ago | Actually first time I heard |
Actually first time I heard Carr's name and frankly he deserves being associated with the horrible play calling today. Again... 10/11 since 2001. 10/11. Hoke and his "OHIO" moniker can take a hike. I am sick that we have been beated so long. The Rivalry did NOT change b/c of 1 GAME in 2011. |
| 29 weeks 3 days ago | Game is what I thought it would be |
Let's look at Borges hide-bound mind-set: 1. Force players into a MANBALL scheme that doesn't work - CHECK 2. Force D Robinson to be a pocket passer - CHECK 3. Keep D Robinson bottled up - CHECK 4. Not groom #2 QB in case our running QB gets taken out for a game(s) - CHECK 5. Run Vincent Smith/Rawls/Fitz at the line WITHOUT effect ALL season - CHECK
There's a pattern of behavior that shows us Borges doesn't have the mindset to be a successful OC. So why should I expect today to be different?
Borges should be gone, but he won't. He will make same mistakes next year. I put this on Hoke. He's HC, he is the FINAL word. |
| 29 weeks 3 days ago | calm and rational posters are ... |
... Thinking that we have to wait to make a comment is dumb. Did you wait to think about the 97 MNC and whether the clock was mishandled at the end and hurting WSU? Blanket comments that we all must wait to post assumes we are all irrational, which is self-evidently stupid. Second, the most disappointing part of this game is the ONE win in 11 games v. OSU. I am sick of losing this game. Third, STOP the "OHIO" moniker until we beat OSU in CONSECUTIVE games. Is that dumb? Maybe but give Hoke something to work for...OSU won last 10/11 games. I am SICK of it. |
| 30 weeks 1 day ago | Saw '95 Alamo Bowl: T A&M vs Mich in San Antonio |
Riverwalk is a terrific bar area Game sucked, horrible play-calling by Lloyd... Texas A&M folks are cross between MSU Juggalos, cadets and cowboys. No joke.
BUT... Would love to play them again, beat Johnny Football. Do to him what Henne & Co. did to Tebow in Cap One Bow. |
| 30 weeks 3 days ago | How fitting his last speech |
How fitting his last speech to the team in 06 was about Tom Slade, Michigan Man, whose funeral Bo had just been to... Bo told them, per press reports, "If you work hard, hang together, listen to the coaches, one day that might be as good a Michigan Man like Tom Slade." My grandmother died same day,1 year earlier. She wasn't a big M fan, but was very proud I went there. Odd how life has certain symmetries.

| 33 weeks 2 days ago | Denard is a great athelete |
Denard is a great athelete and if we want to honor him - cause he won't play QB at NFL level - we should have made his gifts/capabilities more apparent by letting him show some reps at KR, WR,etc. Also, just because his back-up was unprepared doesn't show how much better DR is or blessed we are to have him. His back-up was unprepared. period. I would rather sing the praises of Woodson or Howard than Denard, a gifted athlete who was a turnover machine at times. |
| 33 weeks 2 days ago | The point of a majority of criticism is we have no back-up to DR |
Denard's probems - passing, specifically - have been well-discussed. The issue today's game brought is that we have no back-up to Denard. It's about The Team, not Denard. We can't lose sight that we're building a team, not one player. Cause players get hurt, but Teams endure. |
| 34 weeks 3 days ago | Look at AL and ND games & Borges attempt to make D a passer |
"herp derp"? Forgive me for not caring about whatever Internet phrase or cool kid comeback is dished - the facts are the facts. Denard throws INT like it's his job in critical situations. We've just had a mediocre defense till now that was as bad as his passing game and so we overlooked his deficiencies. Now that we have a real defense the inaccuracies are more pronounced. Look what Borges tried to do in Denard's first few games - passing from under center isn't a Denard strength. Bellomy is a better choice as Michigan doesn't have decent passing game now so it's a step up to have Bellomy under center, either handing to Denard or attempting a pass. Denard is 55% completion this season - not too worried about giving that stat up nor his penchant for bad desicions. |
| 34 weeks 3 days ago | Denard rarely looks good throwing |
I can be realistic, it's non-emotional - Denard is not a good college level passing QB. He's a great runner, not a passer. We're for a Michigan TEAM, too many are too emotional when it comes to Denard. |
| 34 weeks 3 days ago | Denard / Passing Offense in Totality |
Denard just does not have the presence of mind required in certain situations to be a next-level NFL QB. His judgment/presence of mind can be questioned at this level, too. As we watched Denard over the years the ability to win games with his feet caused folks to overlook his - what was thought was developing - passing skills. This year, with a Rock of a defense, Denard's shortcomings are more apparent than ever. In sum: we should not have lost ND and we barely got past MSU. Denard is not a good QB and only his heroics, on a team with a poor D, made us overlook his passing deficiencies. To benefit all, move Denard out of the QB position. His passing is below par and it will be better for him and the team to hand him the ball with Bellomy in shotgun or under center. Denard will get drafted, and we're costing him spots in the draft by keeping him at QB. Give him a chance to show off his WR skills. Hoke can explain it as using The Team's skills better, a la Gardner's move. Have some time to develop Bellomy, Denard's a team guy, and could add a passing dimension that we currently lack. |
| 38 weeks 2 days ago | Hoke would have loved Tate |
Tate is just another example of how sports, at a certain level, is a mental competition. Tate would have been the passer Hoke wanted. Flight of fantasy to think of Tate still in Maize/Blue but I think even Tate would have failed under Hoke's mentorship. |
| 38 weeks 2 days ago | @Swan Flu's post is the most |
@Swan Flu's post is the most sensible thing I have read re last night. Blame DR/Stick up for DR b/c of his highlights over the years/whatever... game's over and today's Sunday. DR won't be pulled no matter how bad he plays and life goes on. Also, everyone needs to ease up on banging each other for not having "original thoughts" in posts, not threads, posts. Heck, you don't see "original thoughts" from high-paid "analysts". If you want originality, be an engineer. This is footbal talk, nothing we're discussing here hasn't been said before, somewhere, in some fashion or form. |
| 38 weeks 2 days ago | B1G conference games don't |
B1G conference games don't change the fact that our starting QB makes bad decisions consistently when passing, both in and out of the pocket. Let's not confuse an open critique of Denard's play with a critique of his character. He simply makes bad teams look good. Do not be so sure a B1G chMpionship game is a highly probable outcome. |
| 38 weeks 3 days ago | F Beckman sticking up for |
F Beckman sticking up for Denard, Interesting. Total yards don't equal performance Franky. |
