Josh Garnett Update
Quoting Tim over at Rivals summarizing Josh's statement:
"The visit to Standford did not move the Cardinal to the top of his list, unlike what many analyst seemed to have think."
A full interview article is on the way for those with rivals insider privileges. This must make us the favorite, or tied at the very worst, which is good to know.

The mascot is a concern. It just might be enough to lure Garnett to Stanford. Look at those dreamy eyes and perfect smile.

I think the Stanford Tree's foliage was in much better condition during Jim Harbaugh's tenure.
January 16th, 2012 at 11:15 PM ^
I heard they were thinking about getting rid of the tree, but then some Berkley students chained themselves to it.
January 17th, 2012 at 12:16 AM ^
Lol. SO many things for me laugh at in there. Thank you.
January 16th, 2012 at 11:16 PM ^
Stanford tree smile and raise you a Denard smile.
January 16th, 2012 at 11:50 PM ^
A wolverine walks up to a tree in the forest. The wolverine sniffs at the tree and pisses on it. What's the tree going to do? Nothing. That's my point.
Garnett -- what do you want to be ... the animal pissing on the tree, or the tree?
Now make your choice.
January 17th, 2012 at 1:43 AM ^
Wolverines are known to hunt large prey—like deer, caribou and even moose—from trees. So if we team up with stanford we can take out the Moose. However, I don't think there is a school with a moose mascot. But if there was, they wouldn't stand a chance.
January 16th, 2012 at 10:56 PM ^
what's up with the tree then? if it isn't a tree for cardinals to sit on then i'm confused.
January 16th, 2012 at 11:48 PM ^
It's derived from El Palo Alto, a landmark tree. It's on both the University's seal and the City of Palo Alto's.
January 16th, 2012 at 9:55 PM ^
that he called them "Standford"
January 16th, 2012 at 10:10 PM ^
I gathered from the OP that this was the Tim's spelling. Also the rest of it- "unlike what many analyst seemed to have think" - makes me question his current sobriety level... If I hadn't already been hearing things like this I would probably blow this off entirely.
January 16th, 2012 at 9:56 PM ^
This pleases me!

Based of what some top Michigan recruitniks are saying, I like our chances with Garnett a lot.
January 16th, 2012 at 9:57 PM ^
All this news that can fall under "positive" is just setting me up for disappointment, isn't it?
January 16th, 2012 at 9:58 PM ^
that people have think?
Not that it matters.
Welcome to AA, Mr. Garnett!
January 16th, 2012 at 9:59 PM ^
Im so damn excited i cant stand it.

Saved by the Bell is the best! Garnett goes to Bayside right??
January 16th, 2012 at 10:30 PM ^
If that isn't the theme of national signing day, I don't know what is.
January 16th, 2012 at 10:08 PM ^
I'd be shocked if he went anywhere else but Michigan, honestly.
Erik Magnuson and PeeWee have been on him for months.
January 16th, 2012 at 10:10 PM ^
be happy hes coming to Michigan
January 16th, 2012 at 10:28 PM ^
"Standford" may be the most misspelled word in the Michigan blogosphere. Either that or "Lyyod."
January 16th, 2012 at 10:55 PM ^
Llyod is anothr coomon mispelling. I prefer to go with loid.
January 16th, 2012 at 10:29 PM ^
he'll want MSU.
January 16th, 2012 at 10:49 PM ^
He's a national recruit .. but, just not big enough.
January 16th, 2012 at 10:40 PM ^
But the decision making of David Shaw at the very end of regulation in the Fiesta Bowl was absolutely brutal. If I were Garnett, I would think for a long time before I committed myself to a head coach who displayed such an abysmally poor feel for the game.
January 16th, 2012 at 10:54 PM ^
Hope he goes blue, but if he doesn't can't fault him for choosing Stanford. Kids seems like a class act all the way, and we should pull for him no matter where he plays.
January 16th, 2012 at 10:57 PM ^
True, but I'll pull for him a little harder if he ends up in Ann Arbor.
January 16th, 2012 at 11:04 PM ^
I know this doesn't mean much but he's wearing a Michigan hat on his twitter picture.
January 16th, 2012 at 11:19 PM ^
I have been to Stanford's campus, it is beautiful and the school cannot be matched (yes, I am a UM alum) but I was not very impressed by their athletic facilities, especially the football stadium and gameday experience is lacking for a P12 school.
January 17th, 2012 at 12:49 AM ^
I don't understand why people think Stanford's campus is so nice. I live near Stanford and I've been to their campus quite a few times, and I think they have one of the most boring, sterile campuses of any major university I've ever seen. Yes, they have us beat on academics and weather, but I would take the campus experience I had at Michigan over Stanford's any day of the week.
January 17th, 2012 at 1:53 PM ^
Yes, don't sleep on Ann Arbor. A2 is a picture-perfect college environment.
No, it's not a resort. When you go to the mountains, you don't expect the beach. When you go to the beach, you don't expect the mountains. A2 is what you expect when you go to college.
January 16th, 2012 at 11:21 PM ^
From every thing I've read, I think he went into this weekend with Michigan in the lead, and it doesn't sound like the visit changed all that much. Do I think Michigan will land him? Yes. Do I think it's a forgone conclusion? Absolutely not.
January 16th, 2012 at 11:30 PM ^
If you go to Twitter, Josh just agreed to do an interview with me. I'll post shortly.
January 16th, 2012 at 11:49 PM ^
Keep it up!
January 16th, 2012 at 11:54 PM ^
You've done like 20 interviews this evening already! GO A.Q.U.A.M.A.N
Aquaman - the name reminds me of the bald guy from the Aqua music group :/

The MGoJet: The official icon of Michigan coaching searches.
I can't look at pictures of it without getting the shakes.
January 17th, 2012 at 1:38 AM ^
Whether he goes to medical school at Stanford, Michigan, or plays in the NFL, I think Josh Garnett's going to be just fine.
January 17th, 2012 at 9:08 AM ^
...to read the campus comparisons these last two days with Berkeley, Stanford, and Michigan. Having lived near all three I would summarize thusly: no comparison between the bay area and the Detroit area for natural beauty, weather, and culture. All three are great world-class universities. Michigan is the traditional sports/football power among them, and by sports I mean football and men's basketball. Stanford is tops for all non-revenue sports combined. Not being an athlete, if I could have gotten into Stanford, and if I could have afforded it, I would have gone there, but I would not choose Cal over Michigan, because I prefer Michigan's professional programs. If I thought I had a shot at the NFL I would choose Michigan, unless Jim Harbaugh was recruiting me
January 17th, 2012 at 10:27 AM ^
Inevitable course of these conversations:
1. someone points out the value of a Michigan education over the other school
2. if the other school is superior academically (like Cal and Stanford), someone says that for "better students" Michigan is as good, some oddity in the ranking process, or that in-state kids have lower admission standards, or east-coast kids and their MONIEZ have lower admission standards, and fuck things up for everyone else
3. if their campus is superior (again like Cal or Stanford) talk about how pretentious it is
4. grudgingly talk about how the player will go somewhere else to chase HOTCHIX, cuz mich is apparently full of trolls
5. but it's COLD here!
6. GUY MUST BE GETTING PAID

What do you call a naked blonde standing on her hands? A brunette with bad breath.

Cant wait to see him
January 17th, 2012 at 5:46 PM ^
Is my single favorite recruit in this entire class. His intelligence, passion, and drive stand head and shoulders above most college students, let alone student-athletes. He would be a credit to Michigan if we can land him and us to him. I won't be crushed if he goes to Stanford -- he'll do what's right for him, but I will be over the moon if he joins the class of 2012.
January 17th, 2012 at 6:02 PM ^
I think he is Blue. Hopefully we get Payton too.
Rhymin and shit.
