All we can do is assume, but I didn't see well paid kids when I saw footage on the documentary, and I saw the cars .. didn't see one NEW car or anything, and I don't know how you get - NEVER FORGET - and, because I never want to see a second decade of darkeness. This implies that I am looking forward to this, which is a stupid assumption. You can remember the players, and what they did for the game ... and not go through it all again, thank you very much. Who wants that, huh?
That goes on everywhere, always has .. if you don't think that there are people who give a little to these kids, you're crazy. Now, giving a duffle-bag full of 100,000 dollars like you hear some kids get, back then and now, that's different ..... and Jalen didn't receive that. He was given money so he could eat, go to a movie, etc ... not so he could buy a car, or anything like that. I am and will always be a defender of The Fab Five, they were so much of the kind of basketball player I ended up being... I am righty, but out of desire of wanting to be exactly like Jalen Rose, I shaved my head, I wore black shoes and black socks......and shot and played basketball with my left hand. This was far from what went on at UNLV, for example, and they weren't paid like the Fab Five 2 was - not even close. I won't ever forget those guys.
I know what Chris Webber did was wrong, but that was 20% of the greatness, and to blame Jalen, Juwan, Jimmy, and Ray for what happened before the draft ... lets be serious here, the players that came after the Fab Five were the guys who were paid for their committment. Remember that.
Yea, we all know about Chris Webber, but the facts show how that went, and the real problem was with the so called FAB FIVE 2, full of busts and well paid college kids .................... lol.
Ugh, well paid and with nice vehicles.
We should all remember the Fab Five, never forget!!
It use to be, if you were a top guy from Ohio ... you were offered and went to Ohio State. Period. That's basically how it was, while he was there ... and yea, he would lose out on a guy here and there, but for the most part, they got who they wanted from Ohio. Now, it seems, Urban offers and goes all out nationally, while the top guys from Ohio are told nay or yay, and for some reason, Urban has been telling a bunch of top Ohio kids nay in 2013; McCray, Butt, Taco, etc ... and it could easily come back to bite him in the ass. It should.
On his twitter, after Mathis and Dawson went at it for the second time .. one of the other players said "it doesn't matter you're gonna end up on the same team anyway" - GO BLUE!
My sarcasm gun is pretty low on all this, so forgive me if this was a joke ... if it's not, well, you're seriously confused. Sullinger and Burke aren't future All-Stars let alone SUPERSTARS, so I can't see a GM wanting to muck up their entire draft to get these two together. I still think Burke goes undrafted and Sullinger will be a huge bust. Both should have returned, but getting bad information is nothing new for kids thinking about entering the NBA draft. Heck, I could "ENTER" the NBA draft, doesn't mean I'll get drafted.
Yea, but you need better than a 3 star underweight prospect, which these guys aren't recruiting ... they're recruiting top guys at positions of great need. That's very impressive.
The kid is getting bad information, if Brian's source of "someone" telling him he's a 20-35 pick, which is late first, early second. That's not going to happen, period. He'll go undrafted, which sucks for only one person; Trey Burke. Him not getting drafted doesn't effect any of the idiots who are direct tweeting him, being jerks about it ... so to me, it's okay to be upset with the decision, especially if you think it's not the best decision for the kid - WHICH I DON'T. The one-n-done rule is a stupid rule, not because of the Kobe and LeBron, but because of guys like Trey Burke, who get very BAD INFORMATION ...... and this wouldn't be the first time a kid was told numbers like this and went undrafted. There are only so many spots, and there is only two rounds, one of which comes with a guaranteed contract. Heck, I think Sullinger should have returned, but, you can't argue with someone who's a lock - A LOCK - to be a lottery pick, and if Trey was, I'd be typing away on how it'd be best for him to move on, period.
Having him helped, and without him, he looked lost. He had a slew of top of the line assistants, most of which aren't with him now ... so I'll give you that he had a great record, especially in the SEC, but that doesn't mean he's 100% going to have the same success going forward. Yes, this is a Michigan message board, and last time I checked, the Urban/Tebow combo only lost one BOWL GAME together, right? Oh, and the talent he had in Florida was way more to his schemes than what he'll find in Ohio, which also will help Michigan in recruiting. And like RR found, it's not going to be as easy to get those 5* STUDS to leave the south ...... it never is. That is, unless you're going to let a freakish athlete most are recruiting as a DB, play QB, but how many of those are out there, ya know? My two cents.
I should have just said his final season, I thought he had two down years before leaving, but Tim Tebow leaving can do that to anyone. He didn't look good.
I think Poggi and Levenberry are more than 50/50 Michigan, and their respected other suitors - FSU and Alabama. I don't know to what standard FSU and Alabama hold each of these guys, but Michigan seems to have them atop of their lists. The spring game, the visits that come with it, could easily become the most important recruiting days of 2013. Logan Tuley-Tilman, who was just offered by USC, at one time said he was going to ride this thing out. He's been BLUE for a few weeks now, things change. Lets hope things go our way.
It's pretty weak. Almost every post I have made today has been labeled flaimbait, off topic, etc .. it's really annoying, and I have seen it done to others as well, who are just trying to have a civil conversation, add information that fits the thread in queston. It's hard to read the content when so much is taken out via misguided and mislabeled "moderation" is all, so I thought I'd bring it up. Anyway, that's all, back to the topic at hand, which I believe are recruiting notes.
I don't think we'll take a 3rd LB unless it's Levenberry, and I doubt we take a 3rd RB unless it's Isaac. I fully expect us to take both, if they want to commit. My real question here is, if Levenberry commits before Gedeon, do we take Gedeon as our 3rd LB? I would, though I'd love to here the opinions of others. It's a nice problem to have.
First player since Jalen Rose and Juwan Howard to get so high ... saw it on twitter, but it made me think; those guys stayed three years, and were lottery picks! Three years, Trey.
He came here as an awe-shucks Alabama fan, who just respects college football, likes this board, and wants to share and talk college football ... says very little about Alabama unless pressed to do so <-- that is very rare of any fanbase, and then suddenly becomes a recruiting guru for, ugh -- Michigan? Well played, Mauer, well played ... your Oscar is in the mail, great gimmick! That said, seems like a cool guy.
Sam was just answering a question the best he could, guesstimating - which is what he called it, I believe. Heck, we might not get any commits by spring game, we might only get one. We might get more, it's a guessing game, and that's supposed to be the fun in all this, not bashing people cause we think they claim "inside sources" or anything.
And finally a number - 24! Wow, that's the same number I have been posting for months that I have heard from people, including Allen Trieu, that we'll take. Nice.
Man, I can scream .. I tried to post in this earlier, but the site went crazy on me... I haven't been able to express my opinion on so many basketball issues, but here, I hope this finds everyone. I'm not saying why Smotz left, but I am guessing one of the main reasons is the lack of playing time he'd get going forward, mostly from a guy named McGary. Mitch McGary is going to start from day one, there's not much guessing on that one. Smotz can shoot, yea, but you know what he can't do, man the block. We need someone that can be a presence on the inside, rebound on both sides of the floor, while also running the floor and offering up some offense in the process. That's not Smotz, sorry. You know who that is; Mitch McGary. I bet McGary averages more than 5 rebounds more than the guy who finishes second on the team in rebounding, he's going to gobble up that many, so while some might be shocked by all these moves ..... I'm not. We lost depth, sure, but hopefully we can go hard for a guy like Trey Ziegler, and Sam Webb already said on his twitter that we'll have two spots open for the 2012 class, and we desperately need to find a backup PG. Heck, we might have to nab two PGs, that is, if Trey Burke believes the person who told his dad the three biggest lies of 2012, one of which was that his son would go between 18-24 in the first round...

What, no love for Craig Roh ?
I agree with all of this, well said.
They didn't count, but hey did exist .. as do the memories.

GO BLUE!
The Final Four runs must be erased, unfortunately.
But that doesn't mean we need to forget the players.

...was paid to pick Michigan ?

Was never really the problem!!!

What do you mean, Mathis has drank the Kool-aid :)

...and be all - cool, just another top tier 4* recruit.
I have had Ben Gedeon a commit to MI for awhile!!
7/8 spots left, and I am guessing it's all 4*+ commits from here on out. I can't wait to see what we get via The Spring Game.
On his twitter, after Mathis and Dawson went at it for the second time .. one of the other players said "it doesn't matter you're gonna end up on the same team anyway" - GO BLUE!
Once you said Sullinger=SUPERSTAR, I should've known:)

He's not, so I am not.
Well played...
if he's there in four years.
Having him helped, and without him, he looked lost. He had a slew of top of the line assistants, most of which aren't with him now ... so I'll give you that he had a great record, especially in the SEC, but that doesn't mean he's 100% going to have the same success going forward. He was 8-5 in his final season at Florida.
I should have just said his final season, I thought he had two down years before leaving, but Tim Tebow leaving can do that to anyone. He didn't look good.
His final two years in Florida.
I doubt he'll fail, but I doubt he owns the Big Ten.
They also offered Erik Magnuson.
So this wouldn't be the first time USC was too late to the party.
TomVH told me it was Dawson, bot Boesch.
Yeah, USC will most likely offer all the top Illinois kids.
Can you blame them?
Dawson was offered by USC.
But I see your point.
No point in adding to it, I agree.
Sorry about that.
I am sure he'll be off his USC high here soon.

GO BLUE!!
He just got offered by USC.
Good question, Ball Hawk.
EDIT: Ace said he'd have the list up that week.
He said EJ Levenberry should be there, so that's one.
Same goes with Levenberry.
I don't think we'll take a 3rd LB unless it's Levenberry, and I doubt we take a 3rd RB unless it's Isaac. I fully expect us to take both, if they want to commit. EDIT: can the MODs please stop this nonsense?
I hope we land Ty Isaac and EJ Levenberry.
Do people think Gedeon will come before Levenberry?
I'm apparantly in time-out for some reason - lol
Someone here doesn't like me ... awe shucks.
First player since Jalen Rose and Juwan Howard to get so high ... saw it on twitter, but it made me think; those guys stayed three years, and were lottery picks! Three years, Trey.
He won the Heisman, and played PG for the Knicks.
Awards aren't based off of pro potential.
I doubt anyone here wants this guy to stop!
It just seems a bit fishy, that's all.
GO BLUE!
And the Oscar goes to ... RollDamnTide :)
I like how it's a debate of all top guys.
I just thought it was kinda cool.
I am guessing it'll be the two LBs, Levenberry & Gideon.
The thread is based off of my question...
Seriously, some people here need to lighten up.
Who is saying they have insider information?
Just listened to the recruiting roundup, weird to hear Ira say my twitter handle. I hope we get 4 before the Spring Game.
And finally a number - 24! Wow, that's the same number I have been posting for months that I have heard from people, including Allen Trieu, that we'll take. Nice.
I think we'll have AT LEAST TWO commits before the Spring Game.
I honestly exect us to have 20 commits, after the Spring Game.
Ty Isaac's visit to USC, how that went?
I thought he was visiting for the spring game...
Any word on that, Ace - thanks as always, great job!
No one mentioned Devin Gardner at WR.
Shocking that no one asked Hoke about it.
