Sparty uniforms for game vs. Michigan
Ugh! http://www.msuspartans.com/view.gal?id=101374
EDIT: Here is a link to an online column by Grinczel from the site: http://www.msuspartans.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/091311aac.html.
Love this line:
"Unveiled Tuesday morning by Nike, the uniforms are stylishly understated compared to many contemporary alternative uniforms seen these days throughout sports, though beyond hip for today's techno-savvy college football player."
"If an iPad were a football uniform, it would look like this."

Its Mighty Morphin Time!

Stupid, stupid, stupid.
I remember a few years back MSU bball changed its uniforms to silver, and everyone hated it. One of those games was against Duke at home, and they proceeded to stomp us in our fancyboy silver uniforms. What's wrong with keeping your school colors?
And what's with the gloves? I fear that ridiculous trend may be catching on so that players can gesture towards the crowd/cameras like idiots. Goddammit corporate 'murica. rant over

Sam Webb on WTKA says "well, we now see Michigan State is trying to look like Colorado State..."

San Jose State? Too bad Tate can't play yet.
September 13th, 2011 at 9:54 AM ^
They're blue and yellow.

Gold Spartans is what I was thinking.......

From the article linked above:
In the '30s, Michigan State College teams wore black and gold and sported winged helmets even before that certain team down the road did. After MSU lost the '47 opener to Michigan while wearing white helmets with green wings, the look most closely associated with the Spartans - especially those great teams of the '50s and `60s - was adopted.
So I guess gold was part of the MSU color palette at one time or the other. How old is their fight song, though?
September 13th, 2011 at 9:57 AM ^
...or it didn't happen.
September 13th, 2011 at 9:59 AM ^
The fight song was written in 1915
Helmet circa 1933

I can't tell due to the pic. lighting, but isn't the S still white? And the chin strap, that's white. At least there is SOME WHITE somewhere on the jersey. The new ones are just weird.

In fact, their school colors were green and white well before the random black/gold period. The coach at the time wanted to do something different, so he changed the color scheme. So yes - these were a part of msu's football history. But no - they were never official school colors in any way.

So we're playing Baylor?

If an iPad were a football uniform, it would look like this.

"If Helen Keller designed a football uniform, it would look like this."

I think Hoke has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in Ohio are starting to believe him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Selling Michigan jerseys is a good start.
September 13th, 2011 at 10:36 AM ^
Tremendous.
September 13th, 2011 at 9:41 AM ^
Well, it's not like those are worse than their current uniform.
September 13th, 2011 at 9:41 AM ^
First thought that popped into my head when seeing this abominations: Michigan's playing Baylor?
September 13th, 2011 at 10:32 AM ^
Colorado State also comes to mind
September 13th, 2011 at 9:43 AM ^
Holy hell those are ugly.
September 13th, 2011 at 9:42 AM ^
Who the fuck talks like that? Are we playing them in football or cricket?
September 13th, 2011 at 9:52 AM ^
hey either way it should be a ripping good time. Pip Pip
September 13th, 2011 at 9:56 AM ^
to show the back of the uniform that reads: "Eat Mor Chikin".
September 13th, 2011 at 9:46 AM ^
Going to be tough to stop Robert Griffin III and Baylor that day. Damn.
September 13th, 2011 at 9:47 AM ^
The same school whose fans scream that their team is now more relevant than Michigan disproves the point made by their fans and coach by elevating the Michigan game to special uniform status. If that's the true color, they are even changing their color for the game.
It seems like everybody wants to trot out a special uniform for Michigan. Bring it on, Sparty.
September 13th, 2011 at 12:47 PM ^
Sparty should bring back the winged helmet that was thieved by the school down south.
September 13th, 2011 at 9:48 AM ^
Wow. Leaving Nike seems like a blessing in disguise.
September 13th, 2011 at 9:53 AM ^
Not every team who uses Nike has pro combat uni's, and I can guarantee you Michigan wouldn't be using them if we were still with Nike.
September 13th, 2011 at 9:58 AM ^
Considering Brandon's love of our UTL jersey, yes, yes we would be in Pro Combats for one game a year. And they would be awful. Remember that one of OSU's uglier Pro Combat outfits was supposedly a "throwback".
September 13th, 2011 at 10:00 AM ^
Can you? Did you see our jerseys last week?
September 13th, 2011 at 9:48 AM ^
disgusting
September 13th, 2011 at 9:48 AM ^
OK, we all know that Hoke poops gold, and now 2 of our top rivals sport gold helmets. Well...OK... I think you can figure out where I'm going.
September 13th, 2011 at 9:49 AM ^
my friend that goes to state told me the gold is actually bronze, meant to represent the bronze of the spartan shields (think 300)
seems a bit far reaching IMHO
September 13th, 2011 at 9:55 AM ^
friends don't let friends go to State
September 13th, 2011 at 10:15 AM ^
well. maybe I should rephrase. my girlfriends brother, who I would consider a friend, but didn't meet until we were both in college, goes to state, and told me this.
September 13th, 2011 at 11:26 AM ^
Stop downvoting this man! He pointed out MSU's flawed logic, claimed that he felt it was a stretch of the imagination, & then distanced himself from any personal relationship he might have with their fan-base. I think he's in the clear!
... That being said, if you do turn out to be sympathetic to any spartan cause, I will downvote myself a thousand times for defending you. Don't let me down. :P
September 13th, 2011 at 4:38 PM ^
I appreciate your defense and assure you that I will not let you down. However, I feel that I may have deserved the MGoPunishment of the downvotes from my MGoBrethren due to the fact that left open the slight possibility of a sparty relationship, and for this, I humbly apologize
September 13th, 2011 at 12:15 PM ^
They sure are obsessed with this 300 stuff.
They do know that they die in the end right?

The Michigan State Baylor SpartanBearPigs.
September 13th, 2011 at 9:57 AM ^
I think what really bugs me with this whole trend is that now there will be no photos from big games with teams in their classic unis - the history books are going to look like a freak show. Tradition is dead. Dolla Billz uber alles.
September 13th, 2011 at 9:57 AM ^
Given our recent performances against that other team with gold helmets, I like 'em!
September 13th, 2011 at 9:58 AM ^
That's some genius lying marketing right there.
September 13th, 2011 at 10:05 AM ^
death shrouds....
