I’d be in favor of a tiered dole out that is commiserate with how many years they spent at school. Incentives getting a degree but doesn’t short change someone based on things outside of their control (injuries, coaching changes, etc…

4 year and almost 7 year old…

4 year and almost 7 year old.  The fluctuation between extreme frustration and joy is only rivalved by how quickly either of them can go from playing well with each other to one of them having hair pulled out or bite marks.  Fun stuff.

The wife has done an excellent job plotting out the day's schedule that provides structure for both them and us.  She takes the morning shift and I take the afternoon.  It works out well.

Exercise.  Both for you and for the kids.  When they have pent up energy the possibility of the day melting down into chaos is almost a sure thing.  When the weather hasn't cooperated we've utilized YouTube videos for kid-centric workouts.  They find it fun and it helps burn time and energy up.

One thing that is also super important for the wife and me is that we've been in constant communication w/ each other on how we're working together on this.  I've continued to meet with my therapist (virtually) and good communication and good mental health helps a metric ton.

With all that being said, if the good Lord hadn't of already taken care of the need for a barber I'd have gone bald from this quarantine.

This too shall pass!

Wife and I are catching up on Homeland - We missed last season and finished that up last night, will start up the current season probably tonight.  It's such a crazy change from what the series originally started out as.

Highly recommend Schitt's Creek - On Netflix - Sitcom that somewhat lampoons the Kardashian type of family

This season's Curb has been really good too

My girls are currently obsessed with Wild Kratts on PBS - show about animals and that's both funny for them and educational

Mental health has become a…

Mental health has become a very strong and important discussion piece for me and the better half as my struggles with addiction put a hamper on things.  What brought me/us out of that mess has been therapy and the acceptance of my own shit (rather than running and hiding from it).  Talk therapy doesn't fix everything but I do think it's a great tool to explore some stuff (cuz we all got some stuff).

It's not easy to get that ball rolling as men but it's been good to change that narrative, at least in my family!

Keep trucking along. The Sanderson books bring a good conclusion

I’m rereading the Dresden files in prep for the next book Butcher just finished. About a book a week and just started the fifth.

Also re-read The Brothers K by David James Duncan. Favorite book of all time.  Book about a family over the course of a couple decades

John Gwynne’s faithful and the fallen series as well.  Been a summer of reading out at the pool

Came from a large family …

Came from a large family (oldest of eight) and decided that was not our desired route. Couple that with two rough pregnancies (second one especially that culminated in an induced delivery due to cholestasis) and I was very much okay with getting snipped after the second one was born.

no regrets. Wanted a boy but love my girls with every bit of me that I got.

Just based on age, there's a greater chance PR finishes the trilogy.  Now does that finish the story?  That I don't believe.  I think the trilogy will finish the inside the frame story and will only bring it to present time.  Then we get mad that we never find out what happens next cuz he'll write a story about cows or cold winters in WI

Favorite book of all time…

Favorite book of all time and a constant recommendation is The Brothers K by David James Duncan.

Also,

Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames - super good, super funny.  "sequel" Bloody Rose is good too

Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher (ongoing)

Red Rising series by Pierce Brown (first series is done, second series ongoing)

Skyward - Brandon Sanderson's first foray into Sci-fi

Greatcoats series by Sebastien de Castell (swashbuckling, fantasy series.  Finished.  Very good)

Lee Child's Jack Reacher series

Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp series

Ehh, agree to disagree on that one.  The first couple books are a bit of a chore for DF but once it really gets going it's incomparable imo

Highly recommend Pierce Brown's Red Rising trilogy

Currently reading Mark Lawrence's new trilogy (first two are out) and they're great -  Red Sister and Grey Sister

Just added Jim Butcher's Dresden Files back onto the Kindle to give it another go through.  Best series out there.

Best new book/author I've read recently was Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames though, just a fun and funny book.  Loved it

People

Just other people. I do things the right way and they don't. Ergo they annoy me.

This also applies to driving, work ethic, sports, etc.

I'm super likable

My dad

played high school and college football in that era and has not aged gracefully, partially to football and I think he gotta a shitty roll of the dice.  Two fake hips, a double bipass, two hiatal hernias (stomach moves up behind the lungs), and now has ataxia (numbness of his extremities).  The only one that I would attribute to football is the ataxia (and even that's a stretch).

Some people just don't age well.  Pops is one of them

I received that same phone call

But in my mad dash to the doctors office I got a second call that they had found the heartbeat. Never has then been in my life a roller coaster ride of such a low plunge to only rise back up. I don't wish it on anyone and even in my joy that my youngest is here and is a healthy 18 month old now I still hold onto that feeling I had that day. I never want to lose that feeling. I empathize with sam and anyone that had gone through it and hope and pray that they find light at the end of the this horrible tunnel.

my choices

Freddy

Chris Cornell

Bowie

Justin Hawkins (the Darkness)

Highly agree with dan carlin

As someone with a unique

As someone with a unique first name (Kai) which I hated growing up with (a short German kid doesn't need anything else to help him stand out at a school of Dutch Giants) I wanted a name for my firstborn to be something that would, at a minimum, be harder to make fun of (where as the wife wanted bijou...). Most of her name suggestions were goldmines for teasing for middle schoolers, but we compromised on something in the middle. Now we're planning #2 and the weird names are coming again. She just doesn't get it

This season

is probably the most interesting one to me as the show runners are going off on their own, making some executive decisions that are different than the books and it'll be interesting to see what they do.
