Saturday Night Drinking - What a Good Idea

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

Since we are in lock-down mode for OT season, but an express waiver was given by LSA for drinking threads, here it is.

What is in your glass/bottle/can?  EDIT:  I should add that I'm having some red-pop, as usual.  Blackstone merlot, pleasant, not too sweet.

What was the agenda for your Saturday?  I see a number of you watched an actual, and apparently very exciting, college football game.

And while we're at it, where are you going to be Thursday for kick-off?  I will be ending football practice early and sending the kids home so that we can make it back to our home for kick off.  We re-up'd on satellite TV yesterday, so we wait with anticipation.

Recovering from a vacation to vegas, so staying in this weekend with some brews.  Bell's Oarsman at the moment.

I just hit the Red Wedding in my second time through reading ASOIF and it's gotten me all giddy about the series.  Started watching season 1 of GoT on demand... what a great 10 episodes of TV!

We had a fun family outing at the fair this morning and afternoon, enjoying the high calorie food, the animal barns, a little music, and a ferris wheel ride.

Now, it's time for me to sit back in my chair and sip a Size 7 IPA from Steel Toe Brewing from a growler I picked up at the brewery yesterday.  Delicious.

Just 5 days to go!!

From Dark Horse. It's a bit heavy but a great way to start the night. Switching to Sam Adams seasonal for the rest of the night... As soon as this bar taps their first keg of it in a few

Sierra Nevada octoberfest. I'm actually impressed with it, I generally find SN to be a little overrated (still drinkable but not a favorite) but this one is quote good.

My BPL team is Everton.  My son is a Spurs fan.  They played each other today in a surprisingly entertaining 0-0 draw. Tim Howard had a number of oustanding saves.

Made dinner for the flock, including this corn/chard gratin that both kids ate: http://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1017637-chard-and-sweet-corn-gratin

The MGoWife went to UVa, and we are now sipping Mai Tai's (the original Trader Vic recipe) and watching them play UCLA in W. Volleyball on the Pac 12 network.

Speaking of which, time for another Mai Tai.

My son plays on AA-Skyline's varsity soccer team and they play at Temperence Bedford on Thursday night. So we'll be starting the Utah game on DVR delay when we get back home.

That match was fun to watch.  Howard was great.  Spurs are effed up right now, which is fine by me.  MUFC plays Swansea tomorrow, in Wales.  I hope that MUFC have put their habit of choking to the lesser EPL teams behind them (they probably haven't, yet - see result against Newcastle).

Yeah, Friday and Saturday drinking threads are quasi-traditional during the season. Actually, the last few seasons, they've been a rather needed coping mechanism in the fall. All the same, the neighborhood purveyor of alcoholic goodness got his hands on some Taylor's port wine, which I am now enjoying as I watch the Seattle-San Diego game move towards halftime.

Hot Cocoa and high school football. Sounds lame, but alcohol is going to mess me up. I need to get up early.

Thursday, I will be watching the game at home with friends. Took Friday off, thanks someone suggesting on the board. Sounded like a good idea, win or lose. Hopefully, win. Looking forward to Thursday.

Thank you. Glenlivet 12 tonight

But not very much. Loading the plane up in AM with the MGoSophomore and all her stuff. Can't wait to taxi off runway 24 in Ann Arbor (or whatever they assign me--might be 06) and get everything off to a great start.

Then there's, ahem, what? Football? Can't wait!
