OT: Saturday Night Drinking Thread

Submitted by Cranky Dave on
What is everybody drinking tonight? I'm leaving tomorrow for 9 days so my beautiful wife and I are about to open a bottle of Ménage a Trois Merlot. Just the two of us.

Last night I had Basil Hayden's Bourbon whiskey. I don't normally drink bourbon neat, but IMO Basil Hayden is really great. Unfortunately I do not have any in my house, so maybe aligash.

I'm just slowly drinking a few vodka tonics looking forward to watching the wings/avs in peace. My sisters took my wife out for a girls-night tonight after her doctor called with news that was not as bad as we had feared. Still a few more big tests and appointments during the next two weeks. If you are the praying type, please send up a quick one for us.

Those two are just black ales. As for stouts, the list grows greatly. We're really close to Founders KBS being released. But for just regular stouts that should be easy to get, Founders Breakfast stout and Imperial Stout are great. Any of Bells stouts are typically great.

The only place I can find it around here is >$3 a bottle! My uncle lives in Ypsi and one of the bars he frequents has it on tap, which sounds insanely good. Also is swirl stout a chocolately, vanilla tasting drink? Cause that's what it sounds like. I got some Victory at Sea which is supposed to be kinda like that. Is also 11.0% so I am excited to give it a try.

Victory at Sea is great. The peppermint variant of that was really good. Swirl Stout is just a milk stout. Don't go into it expecting a swirl ice cream cone. Shorts is a pain sometimes because they make these beers that are supposed to taste like key lime pie or a cinnamon roll, and then they do something normal that seems like it should be different. Always a crap shoot.

Shorts has become more consistent the past few years but yeah, they make some wacky stuff.

$3 a bottle for Dragonsmilk is pretty good, actually but if you're new to craft beer that probably seems like a lot.

VaS is very good but so are Bells and Founders porters. I personally prefer porters that are 5-7% otherwise they get into stout territory (which I also love).

Was the only decent beer we could get in Switzerland while we lived there. Though the beer in the States is far-and-away better than most European beers now (though it's hard to convince Europeans of that--until they try ours) I still miss Paulaner a lot. It's just great beer.

I'm headed to Breakside Brewery in NE Portland for dinner and drinks. Worked all day today and it was not pleasant.

Saw they have some new beers on tap. A new double IPA, triple IPA, and a barrel aged something. Plus la tormenta is on tap. That's their dry hopped sour. Might have them all. We'll see!

at JLA, drinking a couple of Arbor Brewing Buzzsaw IPA's, while the stagehands set up for Pete and Roger. I'll just say this: I'm totally freaked and geeked for this show!!!!

So Perrin got a new investor last year that since has meant unfortunately, that the food has gone significantly downhill, but the distribution has gotten a lot better. This means I have a 4 pack of lil' griz in my fridge, but the boom boom burger is no more. Bittersweet.

I've been unable to load the website on my iPhone (iOS Safari) over the past several days.  It'll load halfway then stop.  This'll only happen with this website. The app works fine. Every other page/website I navigate to loads correctly. Interestingly it'll load when the page is private in Safari.  I'm on 9.2.1 and tried resetting the iPhone connected to my Mac.  I'm at a loss as to what to do.  I don't know if the administrators changed the hosting service but I can't go my favorite website.  I don't have enough points to start a new thread and I can't contact anyone on the website. Any thoughts?

I think on newer version of iOS, you might want to try going to the Settings menu in Safari, then I think you go to "Clear History", then "Website Data". I would at least try that to see if maybe there is a plug-in or cookie that didn't load correctly. If that doesn't work, you might want to let Brian or Seth know in case others are experiencing the problem.
