Shemy Schembechler resigns from recruiting position
Last night I posted in the other thread that this situation needed to be immediately rectified, but that I wasn’t expecting it to be.
So needless I was wrong and I’m pleasantly surprised. He shouldn’t have been hired in the first place, but they did the right thing by correcting the mistake.
Yeesh. Do a little fucking checking before you hire the guy
So what amazes me, horrible that JH presumably told the AD's HR department to just go hire him, but I'm even more surprised that the NFL teams that he allegedly worked for didn't already find all this out?
Do you remember the Jon Gruden email thing? NFL front office types all think like this and talk about it brazenly
The leaders in the game of football are a wild bunch that’s for sure. It might shock all you but boy do they crave a controlling environment
I think the connect between Gruden and Snyder isn't a mistake.
Bye, racist POS. Thank god.
Yeah not to pile on here, but how do you not check someone’s public Twitter account before hiring? Especially for a football recruiting role. Smart and quick move to get rid of him.
Because the people responsible for checking are probably my age and unfamiliar w social media and the trail it leads to one’s thinking./
They looked at his resume and references and that was it.
Which in and of itself would also be a massive oversight.
The head of the entire athletic department and the head football coach are guys he’s known for 35 years. Probably wasn’t a ton of vetting, which, bad on them for sure.
People are complicated but hiring this “old friend” seemed a big mistake for very public reasons.
I mean, that may be true (though I've applied and worked at a number of companies run by "old" people who still request links to your public social media accounts for vetting - it's very much part of background checks and shouldn't be foreign to a place like UM) but if so then it's incredibly irresponsible for such a prominent organization like UM's athletic department.
I'm sure there are a number of people in the UM athletic department who agree with some (if not a lot) of the stuff Glenn liked in these tweets. Based on this thread, there certainly appears to be a vocal contingent of the fanbase who feel that way. But much like how certain football programs get smacked with sanctions for cheating even when everyone else is doing it (think Ole Miss paying guys under Hugh Freeze), you get punished for being dumb enough to get caught. This was his public Twitter account, one I assume he'd use to promote UM athletics in his new role.
If he wants to be some QAnon/MAGA type go for it but do it on a different account, one that isn't so easily searchable that Ace found him liking pro slavery/Jim Crow tweets in a matter of hours. Realistically, even if a person agrees with him the fact kids were going to be able to see his activity on that account was going to make him a liability in recruiting and for the department, and UM football doesn't need that type of drama from some mid-level hire.
Do you even believe they actually did that?
We're just looking for 2005 level job research.

Can we just hire no more Schembechlers, please. They reflect poorly on the school, and Harbaugh should stop pandering to them.
I agree, the name holds a lot of water in this town, but it also just leaves a nasty aftertaste in your mouth.
Receipts are a bitch.
At least they didn’t wait for an embarrassment during a recruiting obligation.
Good.
Now maybe the U can focus on paying grad students a living wage for Ann Arbor
I’d like reparations for my 2 post-grad degrees in Ann Arbor if that’s the case.
Yeah man why have social security because it would be unfair to all the old people who died before it was invented
flawless logic
Unfortunately too many people feel this way (not necessarily about graduate student pay or social security)
The grad students’ demands are absurd. They already have a full ride for the job they’re doing and are demanding full time pay in addition plus a bunch of other random stuff they decided to throw in. Being a GSI is not supposed to be a full time job, it’s supposed to be a means of paying off grad school
How would you feel if I told you it was a full-time job? (they work 39 hours per week and that's just the on-the-books hours)
Also, go ahead and do the math on the cost of living in A2 and see how far 24K gets you. Then check out Umich endowment.
Do you know how many grad students help create beautiful things in this world in the form of research? Not everyone gets to work in for-profit companies while getting paid a lot of money. Life has its ups and downs and luck plays a role. Every case is different and lumping everyone into one group is lazy take.
Replace GSIs with Generative AI and be done with it.
Who do you think worked on the AI algorithms over the decades?
His tenure = 0.3 Scaramuccis.
If Schemy had been first, we'd instead be saying Scaramucci's tenure = 3.33333 Shemies.
A fun and reasonable measure for sure.

Way OT here, but if Mooch does nothing else in life he will at least have left us with one of the great quotes from the Trump years.
You know, he doesn’t look at people—and by the way, if you and I were in his field of vision and he had a cold and the two of us had to die for him to get a Kleenex, you’re fucking dead. I mean, there’s no chance. You understand that, right?

Well played. That's hilarious.
Got fired on his day off no less.
Maybe a guy that likes tweets about other people not working hard shouldn't be taking days off.
Of course, what would you expect of someone who can't recognize the good fortune of trafficking off of someone who came before him?
Just a dumb, dumb unforced error by Harbaugh and the AD. Not going to win the big one with that attention to detail.
Why the f*** wasn't his social media vetted before hiring him? I can't understand Michigan's hiring process.
Either they didn't vet him or they did and bet no one would notice/care. Both are indefensible.
"A source with knowledge of the situation told ESPN that Schembechler went through a thorough background check during the hiring process."
From the ESPN front-page story about this.
Obviously "thorough" doesn't mean what they think it means. That is just a PR response, but when this racist stuff is sitting there in plain sight, SMH.
Thorough, in this case, means "I talked to him for 10 minutes and he seems to be a cool guy."
Don't check Sam Webb or Ace's twitters if you ever want to respect Sam again. Man, that's a beyond disappointing response from him.
I checked Sam's twitter feed just because you specifically told me not to and the only comment referencing Schembechler is:
"Hadn't seen the topic at the time, Dave. We'll address Monday like we have other stories that cast U-M in negative light. There may be a response by then given the swift reaction to Donovan's retweet. Shemy's twitter habits are a pattern that U-M clearly wasn't aware of until now"
I don't understand how this would even be remotely controversial.
His feed doesn't show reply tweets unless you specifically click on reply tweets.
Sam tweeted that and Ace replied, “if it’s anything like the roundtable after the anderson report dropped, it’ll contain more apologia than anything else. rinse and repeat.” Sam didn’t care for that, apparently, and replied, “No, we had substantive discussions that your former bosses all thought your histrionics distracted from. You could always choose not to listen or see your way out of my mentions if you don't find the commentary valuable. Pretty easy solution.”
Ace took issue with the word, “histrionics,” and tweeted several responses finishing with, “nope, gonna continue to do what i do because shills like you won’t say what needs to be said. you’re a real asshole, sam.” Sam, having been insulted, tweeted back, “Well then have a coke and a smile, and stfu!!”
Not a particularly good look for either party, in my opinion. I would like to commend the Blog leadership and MODs for taking the high road vis a vis Ace. I don’t think I could be as magnanimous.
Just read the thread. Ace has always been a guy easily offended and in this case he is unhinged.
I don’t know man, going after a guy who has zero responsibility for the situation at hand over something he might do in the future is pretty brave. And quite frankly, this is the only path towards lasting change in our country. Ace may not be the hero we deserve but he is the hero we need.
Do not know much about Ace but as a first time reader of his Twitter he comes off simply as an angry, bitter man.
If you read that interaction and think that Sam is the asshole, despite Ace being the aggressor, then idk what to tell you
The comment you are replying to doesn’t state that Sam is the asshole. I said it was not a good look. I don’t think telling people to stfu is helpful. The rest of my comment dealt with Ace.
If you want to comment about California Nobody’s original comment, reply to them.
