To go from utterly non-descript recruit, to depth wide receiver, to position-switch nervousness-inducer, to one of the best DBs in college football, to top 50 pick... what a journey Mike has had. Godspeed, brother, and thanks
Yeah I don't see this particular transfer as much of a loss, tho it's odd to lose a true freshman who's barely been on campus. The bigger issue right now appears to be the ability of other programs to over-value depth pieces--e.g., Waller--relative to what Michigan is willing/able to do. Maybe we're just headed for a situation in which no one in CFB has any real depth, and therefore winning becomes much more about injury luck, etc.
The comedy value of hoisting a coach from an arch-rival for a lateral move is enough for it to be cool with me. Also it's good that he's from Ohio. Helps shore up the loss of Clink
He was very good at Michigan, despite playing out of position at LT. We all remember that one woeful Notre Dame game, but that was the first game in a season in which he ultimately became first-team All-B1G--and repeated that honor the next year
At this point, anyone who wants to debate the "legitimacy" of the season can safely be ignored. 15-0, beating two top-ten opponents without their head coach, drawing the SEC champion with the greatest coach of all time and the highest blue-chip ratio ever in the semis, then capping it off by beating the bejesus out of the best offense in the country. That's more than just about any champion in recent memory has done. And oh yeah, an indispensable part of that was JJ McCarthy, who is one of the winningest QBs in recent CFB history
As a veteran skier, this would also be my advice. There's this constant energy around "learning to snowboard" as if it's somehow inherently cooler or more fun or whatever. I mean, do it if you want. But there's no real question that skiing is easier for beginners and you'll be skiing under your own recognizance faster, which is what most people want
Something good happened to me last night, and my response to my happiness was to pull up the Rose Bowl goal line stand and the Rod Moore INT against OSU. Pure joy
Well considering that cheating is more rampant in college football than ever--via NIL inducements and tampering--maybe we need a guy who knows the ropes
I also know nothing about him but I guess we can assume that Sherrone and whoever is advising him--and I suppose Warde, for what that's worth--consider him a capable administrator
It's becoming an annual ritual for Buckeyes fans to declare that all of our good players are seventh-year seniors, only to become consternated when it becomes clear that a lot of them were, like, true sophomores
"Right" isn't quite the right word; I should have said he's earned the "opportunity"
And I believe he has. That's not something that happens in a vacuum. If there were an obvious candidate I believed was better and would take the job, I would have said so. In my opinion, Sherrone Moore made the most sense. So for the time being, I'm going to remain optimistic and excited to see what he does with the job
I know what you mean, but culture starts with the head coach. It's up to Sherrone Moore to rise to the challenge. That's what he's paid for, and he's earned the right to try. Let's see what he does to stabilize and improve the situation
This. It's not about your a priori theory of what the approach should be. It's about, "We want/need to get/keep this player." And then you do what you have to do to make that happen
There's a ton of upside in the Moore hire, including recruiting. Not "news" as of yet, I guess, but reasonable projection. Moore has proven to be an excellent recruiter, and now he can shape overall Michigan recruiting into what he wants it to be. It's possible that a perfect storm of factors--Wild West NIL, an NCAA that's lashing out with its last breath, Warde, and Jim's own weirdness--mean that Michigan is currently in its worst recruiting period of the burgeoning Pay the Players Era. I could be wrong, I guess, but I feel like over time, one of the richest and most storied programs, which recently won a national title, will average out better than like 14th in the recruiting rankings
I'd need to look up the exact situation, but Mike Sainristil had a perfectly executed tackle in space on a big Washington third down early in that game. Phenomenal form tackling rarely gets celebrated, but Michigan's DBs did it as well as anyone in 2023. And as we saw with the Lions on Sunday, bad tackling is all too noticeable and costly

That's what Arkansas State gets for tampering with our players
Do unto other programs as they do unto you

Not a loss in terms of on-field performance this season, but not helping ease everyone's anxieties. Oh well
These recent departures seem like a particularly big issue for them, given that DL is one of the hardest position groups to bolster via the portal
Let's hear it for Wylie E. Groves, folks
SMASH
I can tell you one thing: Brock Bowers is who James Joseph Harbaugh WANTS to pick
Odd considering he was in line for a lot of snaps. Best of luck to him
This is where I'm at, too. Most obvious candidate and we can definitely outbid Bert
What a debacle. He was a very promising hire. Hope he gets the help he needs
No one loves excuses quite like Ryan Day
Team player, chipped in where he could. Thanks for helping us win a natty, and best of luck with whatever is next, Eamonn!
Underrated comment
Go to Milton's Bar in Kyoto and thank me later
Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter
I hope Scruggs gets whatever help he needs to not do this again. And I hope this football program finds a way to just, like, be normal for a few weeks
He's a grad transfer and he's a notably large receiver, you say? This one actually makes a ton of sense for Michigan. Hope we pursue
You're not wrong. Hamlet knew pretty much zero ball
"...as a bit"

Well let's not jump to conclusions here, Warde
Given that Brady and Brees are pretty clearly the two best QBs to come out of the B1G, I think this has to be right
He was very good at Michigan, despite playing out of position at LT. We all remember that one woeful Notre Dame game, but that was the first game in a season in which he ultimately became first-team All-B1G--and repeated that honor the next year
It will always be great to be a Michigan Wolverine

This one seems simple: If Scruggs--his former coach--wants him, we should take him. If he doesn't, we shouldn't. Thank you for subscribing

Me sowing: Haha yeah!! Yes!!
Me reaping: Well this sucks
If you're referring to Warde, that was the meaning of my "for what that's worth" caveat
Well considering that cheating is more rampant in college football than ever--via NIL inducements and tampering--maybe we need a guy who knows the ropes
/s... sort of
Lol I appreciate it. Always annoying to get beaten by a minute or two
I also know nothing about him but I guess we can assume that Sherrone and whoever is advising him--and I suppose Warde, for what that's worth--consider him a capable administrator
Idk how exactly this will work out, but two things:
1) Given the speed of the hire, I believe reports about Wink bonding with both coaches and players to a notable degree
2) A veteran NFL guy versus most college OCs we face will be chess versus checkers
Let's rip this Band-Aid off as soon as possible. There's very little, if any, affirmative case for keeping Warde at this point
More than fine with this. No need to change the system. Congrats on the promotion, Coach Campbell!
Best of luck to Jay. A jack of all trades who was also, somehow, a master of many. Also a great recruiter. Thanks for everything and Go Blue.

Michigan comes in second for five-star recruit. News at 11

Was gonna say, little too much hair. But he's not yet 30. There's time
Gonna remain optimistic about this guy until proven otherwise. I hope he's someone the players respect and can persuade them to stay out of the portal

Welcome, *Head* Coach Moore! It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine. Go Blue.
