RUMOR: Speight dinged up

Submitted by poppinfresh on
Sam Webb hinting that Speight's shoulder is dinged up and we may see more of Okorn in non blowout time against Indiana. There are Twitter rumors (the account name not lending a ton of credence) that speight is dealing with a more severe shoulder injury, a broken collar bone. https://mobile.twitter.com/MichNasty86/status/797930097483231232 There are also rumors on Facebook similar to this Twitter account but hard to tell since Michigan doesn't release injury info and I didn't see speight in a sling last night. Again Webb not saying broken collar bone, but dinged up. Rumors more severe.

Well if that's all the better your starting qb does in a big road game, not sure it can hurt to play O'Korn. After all the good shit Speight has done for the team this year, didn't mean shit or help the team one bit lastnight. I stand behind O'Korn. Should've played lastnight. All the Hawkeye faithful wouldn't have been able to keep their minds on the game because they'd have been thinking about their dinner. They eat corn at all meals I hear!

Right lets play a backup who has a hand full of snaps all season, in his first start of the year, on the road in an extremely hostile envrionment against the best team we've played all year, with a conference title shot and likely a birth in the playoff on the line. All so "they don't know what to expect" (even though there is a full season+ worth of film on O'Korn from Houston).

That is literally one of the worst ideas I have ever heard in my life regardless of subject. Delete your account.

Yea great point, lets use one outlier example in a system much less complex than Harbaugh's, when after the B1G title he had a month+ to prepare, as a solid data point to justify bringing in a guy who got benched at Houston and soundly beaten out by Speight for the starting job.

Idk if I'd go that far. Not as good as Speight obviously and I completely agree that people saying we should go with OKorn are bat shit. But I think it's a stretch to say OKorn isn't a good QB.

Hey, we should play me.  Ohio State would never know what to expect.

Hell, I wouldn't even know what to expect.

Probably a missed zone read and a crippling injury.

Beer almost escaped out of my nasal passages.

- Assuming that O'Korn would be more effective against OSU is blissfully ignorant. Their defense battles duel threat QB's in practive every week so it's not like they would be stunned by O'Korn and whatever little running he may attempt. The OSU defense is possibly the fastest defense in college football, so I would assume that testing them with a mediocre running QB would not turn out very good for us.

Well technically, you could start O'Korn and play like a snap or two and then put Speight back in for the remainder of the game. Does that still qualify as one of the worst ideas? You've got to get out more.

Rumor? Anyone with eyes saw it was likely a not big deal before the last drive, and then more than likely a really big deal when he took a hit square on the bad shoulder on the last pass.

It's unlikely we block the kick with an 11th guy, but there have been a couple pretty big special teams headscratchers the past 2 seasons.

Did anyone else notice how close we were to accidentally touching one of the Iowa punts yesterday? I think it was 3rd or 4th quarter. Peppers told everyone to clear out and nobody did. Looked very close to a turnover to me.
